making the arrest around 5:00 a.m. in emeryville. >> it came over a week since lee was stabbed to death in san francisco. his murder made headlines worldwide with many drawing attention to safety in the city. >> we continue to put the crime in context with data and team coverage. >> we are going to begin with cornell barnard. >> police chief william sco offering few details on the murder at a news conference today but did say this was not a random crime. lee and the suspect knew one another. brooke jenkins calling out those who spread false information about the crime early on. >> he was taken into custody without incident in emeryville >> san francisco police chief william scott announcing a break in the case of stabbing death of tech executive bobby leap. scott says the 38-year-old was arrested in the east bay and charged with murder.

according to his linkedin profile he was a tech entrepreneur who worked for expand i.t. the chief says lee and his suspected killer were not strangers. >> we can confirm they knew each other. however will not be able to provide for the details at this time. >> scott would not share information about a possible motive. sources say lee had two stab wounds in his upper chest. images obtained by the daily mail show lee stumbling along main street. he is seen through the front glass doors of the portside apartment building as he attempted to use the call box before falling to the ground. the case gaining international attention. >> i will say this. we have been on this around-the-clock from the start. i just want to make sure the world knows we have other homicides we work just as hard on. i understand and appreciate the interest in this case. that is not lost on any of us.

what happens next. where does the case go from here? >> d.a. jenkins says he will be arraigned tomorrow morning. she plans to file pretrial detention in the case asking the suspect remain in custody due to what she calls extreme public safety risk. if convicted he faces 26 years to life in prison. >> earlier today abc 7 insider phil matier said police knew early on this crime was not random but he talked about why they held back on making that information public. >> the police did not want to put that out because they were afraid it would spook for tip-off the suspect. they had the suspect under surveillance the last couple of days. they took a chance because they wanted to get an arrest. it is a gamble. it has its wins and losses. >> phil also noted at today's news conference announcing the arrest we sell a unified front

from mayor london breed, district attorney brooke jenkins and police chief scott. something that has not always happened. bob lee's family posted a statement about the arrest. it reads as a family we are thankful to the hard-working detectives at the sfpd for booking his killer to justice. our next steps will be to work the district attorney's office to ensure this person is not allowed to hurt anyone else or walk free. >> tonight we are learning more about the man accused of killing bubbly. our team coverage continues with lena howland who has more on his past and the connection between the two men. >> nine days after tech executive and founder of cache app wobbly was stabbed to death in san francisco his suspected killer was arrested eight and a half hours away on the other side of the break bridge at his loft in emeryville. while it is not clear how they knew each other and what the motive was according to the

suspects linkedin page 38-year-old nima momeni ran his own tech company for the past 13 years called expand i.t. out of emeryville. within hours of his arrest his company's website went dark and phones went unanswered. his profile says he graduated from uc berkeley, was bilingual in farsi and spent time working as a consultant for other bay area needs like coach range -- coast range and more effect technologies. >> what is more shocking is to find out your neighbor is accused of the murder. >> sam singer's public relations firm shares a wall with the unit. the same place police showed up with bullhorns to arrest him early thursday morning. well singers says he has not seen him in the past two weeks he has never noticed any red flags. >> nima is a v sweet down to earth seemingly very professional gentlemen. this is a complete shock to all of us in the building. he is a very welcoming, very

6.9 homicides per 100,000. 13 major cities have more reported homicides. louis is at the top of the list and san francisco is at the bottom of the list when it comes to homicides. does that change your perception of san francisco? >> i'm not shocked by that at all. like i said before there is not tons of violent crime here. >> some say property crime make san francisco look bad. look at these numbers from the safety tracker. san francisco is third from the top of the list with 55 hundred incidents per 100,000. >> you cannot leave your car anywhere. you'll get your window smashed out. we love the city so we stay. >> chad has worked in the city since the 90's. he says things have changed. >> i love san francisco. people are going to come in and see what they see with their eyes. a lot of drug users. a lot of people on the street harassing people. i have come across it myself but i've been coming across that for

a long time. >> and just likes suzanne did you can use the safety tracker to look up different crimes in different cities. data for san francisco, san jose and oakland. we are working to add more cities. >> the bob lee murder is a high-profile profile case that has been given a lot of attention by the police and media. >> tod comfort to the families of other victims who've cases have yet to be solved. >> leanne melendez is here to shed some light on one case. >> we know for investigators to arrest someone in the bob lee murder case. it has been 10 months since sam st. pierre was shot in the marina district and no one has been arrested. his family is wondering whether son's case has not been solved despite having so much evidence. it was the evening of june 19, 2022.

san francisco was preparing for the golden state warriors nba championship parade with lots of visitors that weekend. 32-year-old sam st. pierre was a tourist and that night he was in the marina district. according to police he was walking when he encountered someone in jeep cherokee. he approached the vehicle. words were exchanged. as he was backing away he was shot twice in the chest. the crime took place on alhambra and scott streets in a quiet san francisco neighborhood. surveillance camera across the street was able to record everything including the make and model of the vehicle from which the shots came. a gray jeep grand cherokee limited suv. it is believed there were three people inside. despite all this information and a $50,000 reward the murder has never been solved. his parents spoke to us last week from arizona. >> the problem is there is somebody out there responsible for this.

>> there are people who know about it because there were people in the car. car. this person needs to be behind bars before this happens to another family. >> today as the bubbly high-profile case was being solved we asked the police chief if the investigation would receive as much attention should >> rehired retired officers and investigators to assist in these cases. we have a cold case unit. we don't give up on these cases. if the evidence takes us to an arrest we definitely will make that arrest. with that case we still have more work to do and we will do more work. >> according to po they have solved 85% of homicide cases this year. >> to make it clear that people who commit crime in our city of any capacity will be brought to justice. that is our goal to make san francisco a better safer city for each and everyone of us. >> the point that the mayor and police chief wanted to make was

>> california's state capitol was evacuated today because of what was termed a credible threat. the senate moved its session. the suspect is a hayward man. he was arrested a few hours ago on attempted homicide charges related to shootings at kaiser permanente medical center in and in citrus heights. estate to police he is also facing charges of assault, shooting from a moving vehicle and shooting at an inhabited dwelling.

he understands there are no guarantees. >> there are no strings attached. you are not mandated to do anything to receive this money. even if you fall out of contact with us you are still going to receive the money. >> some people would say that makes them uncomfortable. how do you know if someone falls out of contact to whether or not they are back in a life of crime? >> you don't. you don't. >> since 2020 to your knowledge, has anybody who received this money committed a crime? >> yes. >> he says maybe two or three people out of 60 and describes them as minor offenses. >> people are going to do with or without guaranteed income. >> and other restorative justice it program is in its 13th year. the peacemaker fellowship is for active firearm offenders who have not been prosecuted. the ceo says participants can earn an allowance of up to $1000 a month.

he says the grandson of the men he shot and killed contacted him on facebook. >> left my mom with emotional damage. she had not had her father since she was 11 months because a mistake you made. four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren will never meet him. >> i responded i feel horrible about the and i wish i can go back and change that but i can't. all i can do is honor your mother and grandfather by being a better person today and being of service to make a difference in the lives of others to be hunkered down the path i did as a teenager. >>'s apology continued. he says he did not receive a response. >> i believe everybody deserves a second chance. people are capable of growing. people are capable of never looking back. >> it is for that reason she believes in restorative justice. >> there should be more programs that help us get on our feet and more opportunities to have jobs.

>> the fbi has released new surveillance videos in the case of the san mateo woman kidnapped in mexico. this video is from the moment she was taken last november. it was hard to see behind the pole but the white suv is believed to be one of three suspect vehicles. seconds later her dog is wandering the street with her nowhere in sight. video from a different angle shows the two walking together down a busy street moments before. all three suspect vehicles drive-by right after. the fbi released to the videos with the hope of generating more tips in the case. she has a u.s. citizen but moved to mexico last summer for a job opportunity. if you know anything about her

. her six-year-old son took a handgun from their home in virginia in january. police say he brought the gun to school and shot his 25-year-old teacher in her first grade classroom should she suffered injuries but is expected to make a full recovery. >> new developments in the fight over abortion rights. justice department intends to take the dispute over the widely used drug for prestone into court. it will stay on the market in texas with the new restrictions. the drug can be used through seven weeks of pregnancy rather than 10 and a can of longer be sent through the mail. patients must be supervised by a qualified physician over at least three office visits and they must report any adverse side effects.
