another tech entrepreneur closely tied to lee. amanda del castillo is live with the latest. amanda: t development, especially expected today. that 38-year-old tech entrepreneur, who is accused in the stabbing death of tech executive bob lee, he will be in court today later this morning on a murder charge and more. we know that the suspect arrested by san francisco police in emeryville yesterday morning. authorities say nima momeni an li were both tied to tech. the arrest comes nine days after the attack that happened in the early hours of april 4. lee was in town on a work summit when surveillance video captured the moments after he was stabbed along main street near harrison. lee was seen struggling. an abc news insider said they had the suspect under

surveillance the last couple of days. momeni's neighbors described him as someone everybody knew. his arrest was made yesterday morning. >> i think the biggest thing is that, hopefully, this gets justice for bob and his family. >> the defense is going to be looking at all aspects of this case, and they may argue that this at most was a manslaughter and not premeditated. that is what is so interesting about the weapon. why was a knife used? that is not what you would normally think of in a premeditated type killing. amanda: sources tell abc 7 news that police were seen at nima momeni's sisters home yesterday morning, i location four blocks from where lee was found with stab wounds last week terry police have not mentioned a motive, only that the two were not strangers, saying that this was not a random attack, like

many like elon musk alluded to on twitter, something d.a. brooke jenkins called out yesterday and the press conference. we know that nima momeni will be in court later this morning. amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. kumasi: bob lee's family posted a statement on facebook that reads in part, "as a family, we are very thankful to the hard-working detectives at sfpd for bringing his killer to justice. our next steps will be to work with the das office to ensure this person is not allowed to hurt anyone else." reggie: this arrest brings up the question about the other victims in san francisco who had been killed this year. these are cases that have yet to be solved. there is a $50,000 reward in the murder of samson pierre, hauteur shot and killed last year -- a tourist shot and killed last year. surveillance video captured everything in the case,

including the suspect's vehicle. >> i retired officer investigators to assist in these cases, we have a cold case unit, and we don't give up on these cases. if the evidence access to an arrest, we will make that arrest, but with that case, we still have more work to do, and we will do more work. reggie: for san francisco police tell us they have solved 85% of homicide cases this year. kumasi: the killing of bob lee fueled a narrative that san francisco is dangerous city, while property crimes are up, violent crime is down. here's is the latest data on homicide that was compiled in our neighborhood safety tracker. it shows san francisco close to the bottom of the city list, with fewer than one homicide per 1000 people. 13 major cities have more reported homicides. >> i am not s

that. there are not a ton of violent crimes here. you cannot leave your car with anything in it, you will get your cars smashed out. we love the city, so we stay. kumasi: abc 7's neighborhood safety tracker shows san francisco high on the list for property crimes. san francisco is third from the top of the list with nearly 5500 incidents per 100,000 residents. we also have data for san jose and oakland. you can find all of that right now on abc 7 news -- abc7news.com. reggie: in newark, one person was killed in a police shooting, while officers worked a traffic stop of two carjacking suspects outside the chase suite hotel on cedar boulevard. at some point during that stop, an officer opened fire, killing one of the people in the car. investigators have not said what project officer to shoot. abc 7 news expect to a man who works in the area and he says he heard the gunshots. >> when i talked with one girl, she said she saw the police officer say, "i do not want to

shoot you, i do not want to shoot you." reggie: the other suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in police custody. newark police are investigating, alongy district attorney's office and the new york police department professional standards and training unit. kumasi: new information about the antioch police department's racist texting scandal. a report contains the messages that have led to about one quarter of the department's officers being investigated. this morning, 17 are on leave. the messengers are t -- the messages are too vulgar to repeat, but they include racist, homophobic and sexist tax. it also details potential civil-rights violations and even perjury. antioch police chief said "i apologize to the antioch community for the hurt caused by

this hateful speech. i promise to hold accountable to officers expressing racist or bigoted beliefs, biased insensitivity, and those boasting about harming members of the community." reggie: a sweet gesture from a stranger to help a man get his wheels back. 81-year-old resident francisco was in need of an electric wheelchair. he los march. a 78-year-old vietnam vet from sokoto, john fraser, heard the news, -- soco, john frazier, heard the news, and decided to replace his chair. francisco got to ride it for the first time. >> [speaking spanish] aid in the covering efforts. kumasi: this has been called a once in 1000 years event.

the relentless rain pounding south florida finally letting up today, but not before trapping people in their homes and closing a major airport. jobina is at the live desk with a look at the damage. jobina: this morning, streets look more like canals. neighborhoods are underwater and people are trapped. broward county, florida, got one third of its annual rainfall in seven hours, and more rainfall last night. storms dumped more than two feet wednesday, smashing records. >> i have driven around the city, and there is not one area that has not been impacted. >> we were powerless to stop it from flooding in both doors,, the cars got water to the top, and then i slept at my neighbors house. jobina: before the roads could drain or dry, another storm. fort lauderdale airport was still closed with the tarmac and access roads

the widespread flooding making rescues difficult and dangerous. at one point, more than 600 people were taken to shelters. rescue proves are doing a grid search in hard-hit areas, going home to home to ensure people are safe. schools are closed again today. i just checked the fort lauderdale airport twitter account. they are saying that the airport should be open around 6:00 a.m. our time. reggie: thank goodness because these pictures are amazing. drew: they received close to 26 inches of rain, more than we see in a full year. they saw a lot of rain, very localized. you go about 10 miles north to boca, a lot less rain. 10 miles south, two inches to three inches. it is right over that area that they got hammered consistently. you cannot take that much rain. you cannot plan for that. they are asking officials, how can we did not do better? reggie: what would we have done? drew: what could you do better with two feet of rain falling?

opening of his documentary "steph curry underrated." >> i am constantly trying to find this place as to be able to survey my life and what is going on. to let did i get here? kumasi: it chronicles his rise to stardom from his college days at davidson to last year's championship with the warriors. the oakland mayor was there, as well as the warriors' owner, among others. an oakland native produced a film. he said it may be hard not to think of him as an underdog, but it does explore that and daring to dream big. >> that idea, i think, is really what the film is about. sometimes, it is ok to in the face of people telling you what you want is impossible. kumasi: the film will get a

sunny. very nice-looking evening. we just got the latest in the national oceanic atmospheric administration on the winter, and this past winter, we were going through a la nina into a neutral place. now, as we look towards winter from november, december, to january, we are what is called el niño watch. what that means, the waters in the equatorial pacific off of south america are warming as we speak, and as we talk about el niño, above average sea surface temperatures in that region, so noaa is calling for an 87% chance of an el niño winter this next winter heading into november, december, and january next year. an el niño favors above average rainfall across california. some of our most impactful winters have been el niño winters. a lot of people are member 1997

friend and expert after shawn peterson's day on abc 7 at 7:0's housing site is located on brandon lane and will house up to 612 people every year. the structure will make up three stories of apartment units with more than 200 beds. city officials say the project is an effort to get people experiencing home assess off of the streets. >> we have a crisis level, and we need to do something. doing nothing is not an option anymore. kumasi: the city of san jose has opened five interim housing site since 2020. reggie: reaction to a pg&e proposal we told you about yesterday morning that could lead to a significant reduction in electricity bills for some customers, but it would go up for others. pg&e and other electric company submitted a plan to the public commission that would create a fixed monthly charge based on your income. the fee ranges from 15 to $92 per month. it would also lower the average

amount to residential customers pay for each kilowatt hour or electricity by a third. abc 7 news spoke with mark tony, with utility reform network, known as turn, that advocates for affordable, renewable energy. >> we support the concept of having lower monthly bills for low income customers who are struggling to make ends meet by having a slightly higher monthly bill for the high income, and leaving the middle income customers right where they are. reggie: turn would like to see more help for moderate income earners, many who live paycheck-to-paycheck. pg andy admits high income customers who make more than $180,000 a year would have been increased under the model. oakland is looking at a $7 million bill that would fix damaged off behind by a series of atmospheric river's that hit the bay this winter. there were 360 reports of

the fbi believes monica is alive and they hope the videos may jog the memories of people who may have seen the abduction. her brother tells abc 7 that kidnappers have been holding her hostage for five months for money. the fbi releasing new surveillance video of the moments that on echo de leon barba of san mateo was kidnapped in police go, mexico. one video shows her walking home with her dog on november 29, 2022, and capture the moments before the 29-year-old was abducted. the fbi says another video shows when barba was conflicted by kidnappers -- confronted by kidnappers and forced into a jetta two blocks from her home. the fbi says five suspects drove away in three different vehicles. authorities say she was targeted. her brother spoke to abc 7. >> they hunted, they waited for my sister, and they did not move

with urgency. you see them. it is repulsive. i do not know what the exact quantity of money that they are asking for, but i do know that it is unattainable. they have also sent proof of life. they have sent a video where my sisters pleading for help. gloria: in the video, you can see barbara's dog loose on the street. her dog was later found by a family member. barba was abducted near a busy intersection. the family is pleading for anybody who saw anything to come forward to help her in her home. kumasi: thank you. the man arrested in bob death will be in court later this morning. we have learned to eight-year-old suspect nima momeni's and tech entrepreneur -- 38-year-old suspect nima momeni is another entrepreneur in tech, tied to lee. amanda has the latest on this. amanda: that big break in the case yesterday with even more development expected today.

the 30 eight-year-old suspect will face a judge later this morning, facing murder charge, a murder charge, and more. the big shock to people familiar with the victim, techcutive bo lee, is that suspect you each other. that is something san francisco police said yesterday during a press conference. both worked in tech. nima momeni is a tech entrepreneur behind the cybersecurity company expand i.t.. abc 7 news insider phil matier says police have had the suspect under surveillance the last couple of days. he was arrested by san francisco police yesterday morning. it comes nine days after the filing 10 attack that happened in the early morning hours -- after a violent attack that happened in the early morning hours in san francisco. lee was in town for a work summit when he was killed. surveillance images obtained by the daily mail capture the moments after he was stabbed. he was seen struggling.

judicial community. ro khanna says she should just step down. >> any single senator, republican senator, can object to that. senator schumer has done the right thing and says he will try to get that done, but we will have to see if that is even possible. my question is, will they just take the step and resign instead of going through all of the motions? reggie: feinstein, who is 89 years old, is recovering from shingles. she says she will return to washington as soon as it is safe for her to travel. the california state capitol will be open for business today. it was evacuated yesterday because of what the highway patrol called a credible threat. 30-year-old jackson penny of hayward is accused of writing to shoot up the capital in sacramento. that forced the assembly to end the session early and the senate moved its session. things eventually return to normal and visitors were allowed back inside, which made for an eerie experience. >> i had a prescheduled
