with breast screenings and more. here's dr. samina ahmed with kaiser permanente orange county. >> i literally tell my patients, "you know your breasts best." each individual woman should be comfortable and in tune with her breasts -- the contours, the texture, the feel. early detection is crucial for better outcome. when i think about being proactive in terms of breast-cancer health, i really think about, "what are the risk factors that are under our control?" and so one of those things is to maintain a healthy weight. the second thing i would say is to focus on physical activity. and the third factor is limiting alcohol intake and consumption. there are some factors not in our control. but for the factors that are in our control, if you could really make it a priority to optimize those things, that's only going to help. over the last few years, we've actually decreased breast-cancer mortality rate. and what i would hate to happen

or an added tragedy on top of everything else with this pandemic is to reverse that progress. so, i am imploring everyone who is due to really pick up that phone, >> now to two women who know the importance of those screenings, especially self-exams. jacque ruddy and sharon frances are breast-cancer survivors. here are their stories of hope and recovery. >> the first time i was diagnosed was in 2011, and i happened to find a lump. i just was laying, watching tv, had my hand in a certain spot, and i felt something. >> i really had no knowledge of breast cancer. i just started doing a self-check, thinking, "well, i hadn't done it in a while." and i noticed the lump, and so that's when it happened. it was actually my son's second birthday.

and i figured at that point. and she said, "you have breast cancer." >> i found out while i was at a restaurant. my daughter was inside taking an order. i got a phone call. >> it came out of left field. i was raising my 2-year-old and my 8-year-old on my own. and my first thought was, "i can't die. these guys need me." >> it was very scary, and it was very exasperating. reggie:. we have had some technical issues and i apologize that we are coming on late. now we can see ourselves. everyone behind the scenes has been scrambling to make this work.

. kumasi: the man involved in cash cap founder bob lee's death. the man was another entrepreneur. amanda del castillo is live in san francisco. the motive is still under investigation. amanda: investigation but san francisco police spelling out the two knew each other, not elaborating on their relationship, but the tech entrepreneur will be in court. he is being charged with murder with allegation enhancements. the man was arrested by san francisco police in emeryville yesterday morning. authorities say he and the

victim knew each other in some capacity and both were tied to attack. the arrest is nine days after the fatal attack in the early morning hours of april 4. lee was in town from miami when surveillance images obtained by the daily mail when he was stabbed on main street. abc 7 news insider said police had had the suspect over the last couple of days. neighbors described him as welcoming. his arrest was made yesterday morning. >> the biggest thing is hopefully this -- >> certainly the defense is going to be looking at all aspects of this case. they may argue this is at most a manslaughter and not premeditated and that is what is so interested about the weapon. why was a knife used? that is not what you would normally think of in a premeditated killing. amanda: sources tell abc 7

police were seen at the suspects home, location just four blocks from where lee was found with stab wounds last week. police have not mentioned any motive. if he is found guilty he could spend 26 years to life in prison. he is being held with no bail we know and he will be in court later this morning. in san francisco, amanda del castillo, abc news. kumasi: bob lee's family posted a statement. "as a family we are very thankful to the hard-working detectives at the sfpd for bringing his killer to justice. our next steps are to work with the district attorney's office to make sure this person is not allowed to hurt anyone else." reggie: can new york one person has been killed in a police

shooting while officers were conducting a traffic stop of two carjacking suspects outside the chase hotel. at some point during the stop and officer opened fire, killing one of the people in the car. investigators have not said what prompted the officer to shoot. abc 7 news spoke to a man who works in the area and said he heard the gunshots. >> are girl said she saw the police officer action saying i do not want to shoot you. reggie: the other suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is now in police custody. york police say they're investigating along with fremont police department and they're also independent investigations by the alameda district attorney offices in the newark police officers standards and training unit. kumasi: we are getting new information about the antioch police departments racist texas -- racist texting scandal.

a statement has led to about a quarter of the officer's department being -- the messages are too vulgar for us to share on tv. they include racist, homophobic, and sexist texts. the report also details multiple incidents of civil rights violation. antioch police put out this response. south florida is finally letting up, but not before closing a major airport which i think should be reopening now. jobina: it reopened around 6:00 our time but the streets are still looking like canals. we are seeing neighborhoods underwater and people trapped after broward county florida got one third of its annual rainfall in just seven hours. storms top nearly two feet wednesday, smashing records. >> there is not one of the -- there is not one area that has not been impacted. water almost to the top. i was really scared. then i came out and i slept at my neighbors house. kumasi: -- jobina: before the roads could drain or dry, another storm. one man jumped on his paddleboard.

amanda del castillo is live of what we know on this investigation. amanda: he will be in at 9:00 this morning at the hall of justice answering to a charge of murder with an allegation enhancement because he is alleged to have used that knife in that specific attack that happened last tuesday morning. we know he is a 38-year-old named nima momeni, a tech entrepreneur who knew bob lee somehow. we do know the biggest shock for many familiar with the victim bob lee is that they knew each other. that is what is most startling. they expressed their shock about that and we know both worked in tech. we know momeni is a tech entrepreneur. abc 7 news insider says police had the suspect under surveillance over last couple of days. he was arrested by san francisco police in emeryville yesterday

morning, nine days after that violent attack that happened in the early morning hours of april 4 along main street in san francisco. lee was in town from miami when he was killed. surveillance images capture the moments immediately after he was stabbed. lee was seen struggling. people who knew the suspect to say he was a welcoming and outgoing neighbor, someone known to everyone in the community. >> we are shocked by the murder because there's been so much violence in san francisco and oakland. it is more shocking to find out your neighbor is accused of the murder. >> circumstances surrounding the killing is unusual. what were these tech executives doing at 2:30 in the morning and why was a knife used? that is a very unusual weapon for the killing in this case. amanda: police have not released any details about a motive. sources tell abc7news police were seen at momeni's sister's

specialist. investigators have been looking into the leak of classified pentagon documents exposing top-secret intelligence on everything from ukraine to iran to u.s. allies. hours before the arrest a report in the washington post described the leaker as someone posting documents to impress young men in a chat room on the social media platforms discord. the washington post interviewed a teen who says he was a member of that chat room. >> it felt like i was on top of mount everest. it felt like i was above everyone else to some degree. i would be able to practice some people that i knew stuff they did not. jobina: experts say discord's lack of content moderation allows conspiracy theories to spread. the new york attorney general's office announced it was investigating discord in connection with the racist mass shooting at a buffalo supermarket. investigators say the teen

gunman detailed his plan weeks earlier on discord. the platform says it is cooperating in that investigation. reggie: mitch mcconnell is going to return to work monday at more than a month after he suffered a concussion at an event in d.c.. it was also treated for a rib fracture before being released for physical therapy. the 81-year-old announced his return on twitter saying we have important business to tackle and fights to win. he became the longest party leader in senate history this year. kumasi: the national school that was the scene of a deadly mass shooting last month will be reopening. covenant says the reopening will be phased in on a limited schedule with classes temporarily held at a nearby church. this is the first time the school be open since 39-year-old students and three staff members were shot and killed. authorities say a 28-year-old former student of the school acted alone in the attack. reggie: we are learning about more plans for a 50 story

skyscraper in san francisco's outer sunset neighborhood. the photo is something. it towers over the district. it would at more than 700 new apartments at a 200 car basement for parking. it will replace an existing garden center parking lot. the neighborhood is likely to push back against this plan because 1500 people signed a petition to stop a previous plan for a 12 story building at the same location. they said tall buildings would cause negative effects on neighbors and destroy soundscape's. kumasi: most prominent museums wants to display your art. the find out -- the fine arts museum invites all bay area artists to submit work for consideration. you can be self-taught, you can be a trained artist will all pieces will be considered. the application window opens on june 5 and goes to june 18.

released unseen surveillance videos from the moment monaco was abducted in november. abc seven of gloria rodriguez is in the newsroom with that video. gloria: the fbi police department is alive and they are hoping these new videos will jog the memories of people who may have seen the abduction. her brother tells abc 7 kidnappers have been holding her hostage for five months. the fbi releasing new surveillance video of the moments monica was kidnapped in mexico. one video shows her walking home with her dog on november 29 of last year. it captured the moments before the 29-year-old was abducted. the fbi says another video shows when barbara was confronted by kidnappers and forced into a gray volkswagen jetta. that is just two blocks from her home. the fbi says five suspects then drove away in three different

vehicles. authorities say she was targeted. her brother talked to abc 7. >> they hunted, they waited for my sister. they did not move with urgency. you see them, and it is repulsive. i do not know the exact quantity of money they are asking for. i do know it is unattainable. they have also sent proof of life. they have sent a video where my sister is pleading for help. gloria: the dog loose on the street. the good news is the family later found the dog. her family is pleading for anyone who saw anything to come forward to help bring her home. kumasi: thank you. florida governor ron desantis signed one of the nation's most restrictive abortion bills into law last night. the heartbeat protection act prohibits all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. it makes exceptions for when the

woman's life or health is at risk and in some cases for rape or incest. even though desantis signed the bill there could be a delay before it is were forced. the florida supreme court is considering a lawsuit over the 15 week abortion law. reggie: san francisco has seen some of the highest grocery store prices in the country according to a study done by the u.s. government accountability office. it found the cost of grocery store items rose about 2% each year nationwide between 2013 and 2022. during that time prices and frank -- in san francisco and honolulu increased 3.18% every year. delta airlines is reporting record advanced bookings for the summer. it is a strong sign the airlines industry is moving past the losses caused by covid-19. delta reported 163 million dollars in earnings in the first three months of this year. it follows a loss of $784 million from the year prior.
