reproductive rights taking aew icallysi thatrug getting approval at least for now. thanks for joining us for this early edition of abc7news because of the warriors playoff game coming up next. i am dion lim. we begin with the supreme court ruling. cornell barnard spoke with local abortion rights advocates and has an update on this developing news. >> abortion is our right. reporter: a small but vocal group of abortion rights advocates rallied at oakland city hall demanding the drug mifepristone commonly used in chemical abortions remain legal and available. >> as you know, mifepristone is under attack by judges, and we think it is critically important people come out here and understand why it is upsetting. reporter: emotions running high on both sides as the fierce

debate over the future of abortion plays out nationwide. the supreme court stepping in friday. justice samuel alito issuing an administrative stay of the building in texas that would overturn the fda's original approval of mifepristone that would take the pill of the market, now giving the court until april 20 to review the case and decide what their next steps will be. >> it is a distressing time for reproductive rights and health. reporter: the last minute way in from the court bringing a temporary sigh of relief from abortion rights advocates after conflicting roles in washington state and texas have left use of the drug nationwide up in the air. >> we were talking to doctors across the country, and there was mass confusion and chaos. reporter: the antiabortion rights group represents four doctors from the original texas case. >> we are confident when any court looks at the facts in the law of this case, they will agree with us. this is the next step in long litigation. reporter: governor gavin newsom
