for a wildfire season, but with the historic weather this year, we face a different danger. >> we reached out to experts for their take on the latest predictions. >> i know from walking my dog in the hills that the grasses are knee-high and still growing. there will be plenty of available fuel, so there is cause for concern. >> fire experts weighed in on the fire forecast, which predicts that in california, 400,000 to 1,000,000 acres will burn, putting the state at average or slightly above average for fire danger later in the summer. to put that in perspective, nearly 1,000,000 acres burned in the dixie fire in 2021. >> we should not expect big fires in july, which is different from the previous years. > fuel moisture is high

tomorrow morning over mount hamilton, could see a mix of rains/no if it's cold enough, so keep that in mind that the snow level will be coming down. i will let you know about some major changes coming later this week. >> sounds good. thank you. san jose police arrested four people in connection with a sideshow last night around 10:30 . three people were arrested for evading police while another was taken in for a felony warrant. san jose's mayor says it is part of the larger sideshow crackdown. >> last week, we issued 700 citations. it was quiet, then a group came into the city last night and thought they could do it again, we had vehicles impounded and arrests made, and that is what will happen. >> officers issued a citation to 21 spectators and three cars were impounded for 30 days.

housing. abc7news reported dustin dorsey has details on how this will build a better bay area. >> santa clara county continues to innovate solutions to help and the homelessness crisis. the day, the united states department of housing and urban development made their investment toward cycle. >> decades of underinvestment in housing and services have created a tall and steep mountain to climb, but we have in fact begun climbing that mountain together. >> hud selected santa clara county to receive over $11 million in grant money and 51 stability housing vouchers to continue work addressing homelessness. the county has helped to connect more than 10,000 people with permanent housing, but the work is not done. >> despite the success, there are thousands experiencing homelessness in our community and attends of thousands -- tens of thousands of more at risk of

being pushed into homelessness. this funding will help us do more. >> money goes toward supportive reach pr like 54 households in one community currently under construction and 5.4 one million dollars allocated towards expanding the destination home alliant engagement services to serve more than 800 households across the county. >> our community has been strong leading with lived experience and there are groups of people formerly and currently homeless and the encampments every week engaging alongside traditional outreach teams and helping people to get off the streets and have the basic essentials they need to survive. >> the s region can continue to restore that hope to many in the community with this funding. >> we are here to celebrate a partnership across government and including our nonprofit partners in creating off of our street out of homelessness to greater security

and to the opportunity to lead a full life. >> something everyone in our community deserves. >> now santa clara county has more homeless than any other county in the bay area and the only county to top 10,000 homeless according to last year's count, a homeless senses done every two years to qualify for federal hud funding. the vast majority are unsheltered and most have been homeless for more than a year. when surveyed, the loss of a job was most likely the reason they become homeless, and most cannot afford rent. that is why they are still in the street. 84 percent are interested in permanent housing. to see more of how santa clara's homeless population compared to other bay counties over the years to check out this article at abc7news.com. >> the city of oakland kick off its first annual one oakland sprinkling this week -- spring cleaning this week by launching

a potholed blitz. we look at how much progress they've made. >> atmospheric river's which drenched the bay area left behind pothole after potholed after potholed in oakland. >> from december through march 1, we were unable to implement any significant repair to the roadway infrastructure. >> the director of the department of transportation fred kelly said that his crews got to work at the start of march when it stopped raining using funding from kk and measure u, now kicking off a potholed blitz to attend to the most egregious of all pothole citywide. >> they are filling more potholes, more so than ever before, 2700 potholes have been filled since march 1. >> while crews art making a significant dent in the number of repairs to be made in east oakland, a lot of the people we talked to said they have their work cut out for them. >> ed is not enough.

>> the san francisco school board is considering a bond measure for improvements worth $1.7 billion, however, it does not include a new roof for the school of arts, which had been promised to voters in 2016. our senior education reporter

joins us live now in the newsroom. you are hearing from voters who feel cheated. >> people have been telling me they are in the dark about the future plans for the school of arts. some have said to me didn't it get dealt party? -- built already? it was supposed to, but some of the money was used for upgrades and filtration systems and the list goes on so the question is now will the school be built like the voters want it? it is located in an isolated area of san francisco and many have argued it should be at the heart of the arts community and close proximity to the opera, ballet, the symphony hall and the san francisco jazz center. >> if you can walk across the street and watch a dress rehearsal or have a master class , you will come away with

experiences that you will never forget. >> that is an arts advocate who in 2016, like thousands of san franciscans, voted to fund a new location for the school and an arts center to serve all public school students at 135 -- avenue. it was a $744 million bond of which $100 million would go towards the construction of the school and center, except that the money got diverted to other projects. >> i won't say i feel cheated, but i feel disheartened and i think they deserve better. >> with the money that the school for the city matching private donors but failed to do so despite having the support of huge artists. few voters today realize that what they voted on in 2016 never got built. when the money got diverted with

the director of the california education partners was quoted as saying, we have schools that have immediate needs that absolutely have to be addressed. this in no way closes the door on future bond programs raising money for the school of the arts, except that, again voters failed to note that the school board would soon be presented with a $1.7 billion facilities master plan to improve structural conditions with their existing schools, without any of the money going to build the new school and arts center, as promised in 2016. a former school board member -- >> that is a tremendous oversight. how can you ■say thisisa master plan for facilities and leave out one project which the strict has been committed to for decades. here is what the superintendent told me during an interview

shortly after taking office less than a year ago. >> not only do i want to support that school, but i want to make sure we're providing art opportunities for all kids in all our schools because it is a path to success and to developing the critical thinking skills and problem solving skills we have in our high school graduate profile, so it is a priority to support our arts programs. > that was the superintendent in july 2022. now the facilities master plan has not been finalized but there is no money included for the construction of the school of the arts. it will be presented to the board in may and the hope is that somehow it gets added in per the wishes of the voters. >> all right. we shall see. thank you. leanne has been reporting on bay area school issues for decades, and that is why she is our senior education reporter. you can get in touch with her

online. >> the $7,500 federal tax credit that got many car buyers to go electric is going away for many models starting tomorrow, due to new rules implemented by the inflation reduction act which requires a percentage of battery minerals and components be sourced from north america or a u.s. trade partner. it is meant to incentivize u.s.-based production. the full list of which cars qualify for the tax credit will be released tomorrow. experts say if the vehicle you are thinking about buying is not on the list, there are still ways to save. > the california tax rebates have not changed the tax credits have not changed, so if they buy a different card they can still get those tax credits. >> overall, american carmakers including tesla are among the big winners with the new rules. gas prices are creeping up and san francisco prices average

internment experience of the work of one oakland resident and apparently too controversial for scholastic books. the publisher was seeking a licensing agreement, hoping to repackage the book and put it into classrooms. she shared a screenshot of the proposed changes, scholastic cutting a paragraph in removing a note on racism. she says that she sees parallels between this and that attempts to silence authors who write about things like black feminism, queer studies in black activism. >> it is part of the same movement to return us to the comfortable problem of jingoism in the way we talk about history. as somebody who is jewish, it's difficult to nazi see parallels to other instances when books have been banned and told that certain people stories are not worth listening to at all. >> as for the book, she says she
