>> the green and gold decorated the oakland coliseum could disappear in just a few years. the a's informed oakland mayor sheng thao they reached an agreement to build a new stadium in las vegas. >> oakland for years worked to keep the a's here. >> the sign in front of the coliseum reads rooted in oakland since 1966 -- 1968. after a wednesday night call oakland mayor sheng thao says the future of the a's in the city is in jeopardy. oakland was close to finalizing the howard terminal when they got a call wednesday. >> the announcement happened men negotiation and it shows they have no interest in reaching a deal with oakland at all. oakland is not interested in being used as leverage in the a's negotiation with las vegas. the call is pretty short and when you get a call saying we are going to sign and we found

says she is willing to listen if the a's change their mind or a new team wants to build in oakland. >> if they want to call me back to say we can negotiate i am more than happy to take the call. >> in oakland ryan curry abc7news. >> plans to build an ace stadium somewhere in the bay area has been difficult from the start. talks for a downtown san jose stadium began in 1997 but the plan was blocked by the san francisco giants that claimed rights to santa clara county. in 2006 the a's considered a move to fremont. in 2009 that a's looked again at san jose but major league baseball next that move. in 2017 a stadium planned at oakland's laney college park fell apart and the next year the howard terminal site was unveiled and in 2021 the a's got permission to relocate outside the bay area culminating this week with the deal for a stadium site in las vegas. >> the a's late in oakland since

1968, almost 55 years. some of the people hurt the most here are fans. casey pratt shared this photo on twitter today saying i grew up going to the oakland coliseum and my kids have grown up going to the oakland coliseum. it wrecks me to think of all of the fans out there that are no longer able to carry on fast -- family traditions. justin wrote, i moved away several years ago but taught my children the ways of being a haze fan. i am gutted today. shawn wrote that this pain is generational. gloria added, heartbroken. my daughter had her first major league baseball to -- game there too. >> it is tough. i have been here -- there so many times. casey is there. we saw your post. the way the fans are reacting, it's tough. how hard is this moment for you and other fans? >> at the time i posted it was 1:30 a.m.. i posted that late at night and had very little sleep since.

it has been outpouring of support from fans. in a struggle chord with me. the day by emily -- today my family said they would surprise me for my birthday next week and they bought matching a's hats and they bought me a hat. i was like, i cannot hear that right now. too soon. >> this happened when the raiders left town and went to l.a.. now they are back in vegas again. and of course the warriors left. it is tough. >> you mentioned all of the years we have gone by trying to get them to stay here. the deals that did not quite make it. is there any chance, casey, this may not go through and we could still keep them? >> as you can tell from my voice i have been on the phone pretty much all night and all day trying to chase this down in every way imaginable. there is about a 95% chance the a's are out the door to las vegas. >> why so suddenly? the negotiation has been going

on a long time. you are an expert on the process. you have been covering the process. why did it suddenly fall apart? >> the a's and the city of oakland arranged a summative meetings. they would spend the whole week trying to figure out whether or not they could get the deal to the finish line and if they could not, they were going to, together, come out and say, look, we tried, we failed, they were going to do it together was a unified message because they had blocked each other from negotiating in the media. remember we have not heard anything from the a's in months and very little from the mayor. but what happened last night was, and i reported this first on social media, dave cavil called mayor sheng thao and john fisher as well as said, heads-up, this is about to leak. the story is about to leak. yet, the story, conveniently, already had quotes from dave cavil and rob manfred, the mlb commissioner. it was no leak. it was by design. the oakland mayor stood up to them and bravely said, that is that, we are out. you will not use us to get a

better deal in las vegas. >> any blame here? pointing fingers at anyone? >> the blame game is so much fun. you can take it all the way back to like that in kobe commissioner at the time, joe like him. he wanted to buy the a's. he was snubbed. reggie jackson and that whole group were snubbed. he ended up going with his frat buddy and they were going to try to move to san jose and it failed. that is one of who i would blame. two, the a's ownership. it is not the city. the city was trying to get this done. the a's said they needed 350 $2 million to pay for the infrastructure and raised 375 million. but inflation hit, the pandemic, costs went up and testament went out the window. the city did all they could. they raised the money they were asked to raise. when you have a billionaire owner not willing to finish the deal, it is hard to blame the city. >> the golden rule.

>>[laughter] >> now we move to new developments in antioch police department scandal. civil rights attorney john burroughs filed a federal lawsuit in an effort to bring reform to the city's police department. a chain of racist text messages revealed last week included 45 officers. the texts used racist and homophobic language to describe black residents and was more than locker room talk. >> some of the things they said were so horrific that it truly made me cringe to think that these are the very people that are supposed to be serving the people of the community. knowing what i know now, the community probably should have been more afraid of the police then gangsters or criminals in the communities. >> he says the police department should be held responsible for allowing this to occur and doing nothing to stop it. the antioch police chief called the scandal "an unfortunate

situation.". >> police are looking for the person responsible for shooting someone behind a wells fargo bank today just after 2:00 near the fruitvale avenue and macarthur labarge out of -- area of oakland. the victim was taken to a local hospital. they are in stable condition. the parents of a home depot worker killed inside a pleasanton store tuesday describe their son as a 26-year-old man with the heart of a big kid. this is video of blake mohs, who was an eagle scout. later he met his fiancée volunteering as a troop leader and they were going to get married in august at a scout camp in sonoma county. >> just because he is not here now does not mean that all of those lives, all the people he touched are not going to pass that forward. like had a short -- blake had a short life, but he lived it. >> at 5:00, talking with the deputies that apprehended the elected shooter -- a legend

that went by the wayside. >> national and global data show a decline in childhood vaccine, a trend also seen locally. data from the california department of public health shows hundreds of santa clara county kindergartners are past due for required vaccination, something the county says put them at risk of illness and keeps them from going to school. the immunization program manager says their focus is on making sure kids are getting both required and recommended vaccines. that apartment held listening sessions with community members and found missed appointments due to pandemic impacts are a big reason locally for the numbers seen. >> we also heard misinformation. the community was asking provide more information about the vaccines. >> in a push to boost vaccine numbers and provide truthful information about families and health care providers, santa clara county is launching a new campaign called vaccines are another part of growing up aimed at targeting multiple cultures in multiple linkages. >> we want to reach all of the communities.

one million east bay customers and how it gets from the source to your house. >> in california we have been dealing with drought conditions the past couple years. with recent storms they have had a spell of water at party dam. the recent abundance of water does not mean water issues are over. >> in california you are never in the clear. you are never fully in the clear when it comes to drought or floods. the challenges in california are significant amount of variability we can see from year to year. >> the east bay municipal utilities district superintendent at party dam. the dam was built in the 1920' to supply water to the east bay. i hiked to the top of the 345 foot down, a strenuous climb. you get a sense of how the water gets from the dam in the sierra nevada foothills to 1.4 million customers in the bay area more than 100 miles away.

concerns in the case that could be long-lasting. dion: these travelers recently took a non-day road trip of the west coast, starting and ending in her dream destination of san francisco. >> when i was in elementary school, i watched the tv serial "full house," you know? dion: some warn her group about crimes in san francisco. >> we took the car from the car rental. the car-rental officer already told us to be careful, including the local person in l.a. dion: on the day before their flight back to indonesia, part of the group went to whole foods in california to break their ramadan fast. when they returned to the rental car, this is what they witnessed. >> suddenly, one of my friends named harry, yelled, "hey, don't do that!"

and he laid down on the floor because the robber was pointing the gun at him. dion: this video has since gone viral in indonesia. just two social media posts on twitter getting more than 5 million views, which prompted this alert from the indonesian consulate in san francisco, complete with instructions on what to do if you are attacked, broken into, or robbed. the consulate also issued alerts for other major cities, but the difference is the threat of property crimes. >> highest threat of car break-ins compared to other cities. this warning has become more frequent. the uncle inches at something that worries the head of global sf, which identifies and attracts foreign investor -- foreign investment to the bay area. she says just one carl video can have a major impact on the people of indonesia and southeast asia and have lasting consequences for san francisco. >> they are making a lot more money, facing increase in terms

you u mit bebe sprisised ♪ the barnes firm injury attorneys ♪ ♪ call one eight hundred, eight million ♪ >> time now for the four at 4:00. we begin with today's top story we talked about. it looks like a strike out for keeping the a's in oakland. the a's have finalized a deal to purchase a 49-acre site near the las vegas strip. the finding purchase agreement was announced last night while negotiations were still underway with the city of oakland for the howard terminal site, which has had several delays and challenges to make that deal go through. and it looks like it will not go through. the a's are going to vegas, and this is just a real blow for a's fans and oakland already have lost the warriors, lost the raiders to vegas as well.

karina, your husband is in professional sports, a front office worker. what do you think? >> i think it is just devastating, obviously, for our city, for longtime fans, generational fans to lose something that they love to go to, believe in, right? it is something people do with families, going to games. our sports reporter posted yesterday about this on twitter. just hundreds of people replied to it, posting pictures of themselves in their days gear with -- their a's gear with kids, grandparents. >> i remember street in oakland actually covering a different story when we got word that the raiders were coming back from los angeles after having left. it was 1995, i think, and people went bananas. as you may remember, they were

heartbroken when the raiders left. >> yeah, you have diehard fans here. obviously big raiders fans, a's fans. it is sad to see them go. let's get on to soccer players who could soon be facing off against a new competitor. mechanical engineers -- oh, boy -- at ucla have developed a life-size robot that can play soccer. they call it a first of its kind, standing four feet tall. it can stand up and has devices that behave like biological muscles, allowing it to walk, kick, and run practice drills. ok, so, let's see, they have the ai anchors now. are they not going to have soccer players? we're just going to watch the robots? >> i think it has to be a combination of the two. i think that is kind of cool what they were showing, but they are about four feet tall, right? so there are limitations. i just think it will be nice if they can blend the two.
