a civil rights attorney has filed on lawsuit against antioch . >> some of the things they said was so horrific. they made me cringe to think they are the people who were supposed to be serving the people of this community. knowing what i know now, this community should have been more afraid of the police than the criminals. >> he says the police department should be held responsible for allowing it to occur. antioch's police chief has called it an unfortunate situation. >> oakland's major league baseball team appears to be headed for las vegas. the a's announced they are entering a purchase agreement to buy land in vegas to purchase a stadium. this comes after years of negotiations to build a new

ballpark at howard terminal. >> oakland is not interes being used as leverage in the a's negotiations with las vegas. it is disrespectful to string the city along this way. >> the a's said we have made a strong effort to stay here. we recognize this is hard to hear. we are disappointed we have been unable to achieve our shared vision of a waterfront ballpark. >> they are expected move the strip in las vegas, not far from the raiders home. it is a 49 acre site. it has 35,000. they hope to break ground by next year and be able to host games20. >> plans to build the stadium in

the bay area have been filled with pitfalls. the planet 1997 was blocked by the san francisco giants. 2000 six the a's considered a move to fremont. in 2009 they look to san jose but major league baseball opposed the move. a stadium plan at a college fell apart. the howard terminal site was then unveiled. in 2021 they got permission to relocate outside the bay, which culminated this week with a deal in las vegas. >> the economics of the a's apparent departure from oakland is hard to ignore, from jobs at the coliseum to little league team uniforms, the impact the team has had deep roots in the community. when elbert art has the story. reporter: i think it will be a shot in the arm for the economy

in terms of a negative. alameda county board of supervisors is getting real about losing the oakland a's. he says it will hurt. >> it will deafly hurt the economy because there were jobs there at the coliseum. people depended on those jobs. those would have been construction jobs as well. >> abc7news insider phil matier says howard terminal likely came at a cost the city could not afford. >> we are not going to get the jobs, the biggest building project the west coast has seen in decades. on the other hand oakland will not be on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars. >> lose the a's.

21-year-old toddler when she took off and a getaway car that had been parked by the back loading dock of the store. the car was tracked by air craft in oakland. when the deputies arrived they saw her get out of the car holding her toddler and hand the child your grandmother before they say she ran away. >> as soon as there was confirmation of where the vehicle was, the deputies were able to make contact and get those people into custody. reporter: she was said alone in the backseat of a patrol car for 10 minutes when a deputy went back to check on her. they realized something was terribly wrong. >> they noticed she was slouched down in the seat. he opened the back door and saw she was limp and unresponsive. reporter: she was somehow able to wrap a seat belt around her

neck three times. >> they were able to set her up, put her head back and untangle the seatbelt from her neck. they pulled her out of the car. she took an enormous breath and regained consciousness. reporter: the sheriff's office says they take an oath to protect life no matter what. >> what she is accused of doing before has no relevance. reporter: most parents are focusing on remembering their son as the loving man who dreamed of someday taking his own oath by becoming a police officer. >> just because he is not here does not mean all the people that he touched are not going to pass that forward. blake had a short life. only 26 years, but he lived it.
