moving forward in finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. >> we need this kind of support. anchor: san francisco's call for help with the fentanyl crisis is answered. good evening. anchor: the governor today announced the move to bring in the chp as well as the national guard to help fight the fentanyl crisis. they will team up with sfpd and the district attorney's office. in a statement the governor said two truths can coincide. san francisco's violent crime rate is dropping but more can be done to address public safety concerns especially the fentanyl crisis. anchor: abc reporter tara campbell has more on this announcement. >> i have said that we cannot do it alone. reporter: the mayor responding to a major move tackling the open air drug and -- drug

marking. -- drug market. >> part of what we are getting from the governor is some help and support and resources so we can have the capacity necessary to take on this challenge head-on. >> we make arrests day in and day out it is hard to hold ground and we need to get it under control. reporter: the fan -- the san francisco police chief saying the details are still being worked out but making one thing clear. >> we are not talking about a military state. the national guard goes many places to help out and we will lose them in a way consistent with the values of the city. we don't know what that looks like yet. reporter: gary mccoy is a president at a nonprofit helping drug users on the streets providing paths into recovery

and treatment. >> it will be successful unless we have a public health intervention. reporter: in march the governor announced a master plan. it includes investing billions of dollars into overdose prevention efforts, education and cracking down on drug trafficking. >> if you are going to eliminate the supply especially with people that do have substance abuse disorder and their primary substance is fentanyl, we want to help these folks and quickly. reporter: mo coy and others are hoping that as part of the process governor will also reconsider supporting safe consumption sites. these are places people can go to use their drugs under supervision in case of an overdose and last summer at the governor vetoed a bill that would've paved a way for cities to pilot these sites including san francisco. anchor: tara has

collision involving a pedestrian this city. the driver was taken into custody. san jose police say the collision is still under investigation. anchor: san francisco bay's l is planning layoffs, 1200 jobs. the company has seen its stock dropped by 70% and the last year. layoffs would cut 50% of operating costs and would bring its fares in-line line with its biggest rival. shares surged after these plans were released. plaintiffs and a lawsuit challenging california's gig economy law are hoping to take their case to the highest court of the stage. the union and a group of ride-share drivers petitioned the california supreme court to repeal a ruling that upheld proposition 22. it allows these companies to

classify its workers as independent contractors rather than employees. that status allows these employees to avoid paying health coverage. anchor: the abortion drug will remain widely available for now following a ruling today by the supreme court. this is the first major abortion decision since last year when the supreme court overturned the constitutional right. reporter: the supreme court allow -- to reverse fda approval of the drug. the decision allowing the abortion pill to remain widely available for now is a legal challenge plays out in a low -- in a lower court. president biden said my administration will continue to defend fda's independent expert authority to review, approve and regulate a wide range of

area wineries are doing their part to help those in need. tomorrow they are partnering with a minnesota-based company to raise money for prosthetics for injured ukrainian. -- ukrainians. reporter: he never thought he would be here, thousands of miles away from his native ukraine at a winery on san francisco's treasure island. his journey has not been easy. for nine years he has been fighting russian invasion -- aggression. with the help of a talked about his experiences. >> i stepped on a mind when they were clearing the buildings. reporter: a moment that would cost him his right leg in 2014 but still he continued to fight on the front lines for years. >> my desire to win the war and for my children, future children

and the croissant is one of my favorite pastry. and i talked to my chef, i'm like, "okay, maybe we can try our version." it's very similar, but with the new names and different flavors. and we try like, for two weeks, different technique, proofing, different temperature, you know, and finally we get the best result. i tried the chocolate one, and it's really yummy. it was actually really good. the croissant is flaky and nice, but not too, like, you know, too buttery-ish. maryam: the process is very long and very time-consuming. we--we have three flavors. we have pistachio, chocolate and raspberry-strawberry, and we have chocolate hazelnut. my favorite is chocolate. yeah, i'm a chocolate person, and my favorite is chocolate. i... the hazelnut probably is, you know, it's one of my favorites too, because it's a chocolate hazelnut. but we sell a lot of strawberry and the pistachio as well.

marvel cake is a family business, and if you come here, we treat our customers and employees as our family. we decided to open the coffee shop and bakery because i'm persian, you know, i'm iranian, and in our culture, going to the coffee shop, spend time, it's, you know... it's very normal. i tried to open some place that people can sit down and talk to each other, and we offer the internet, but, you know, i prefer that people talk to each other instead of just working on the laptop. it's more, like, unique place than normal coffee shop. i'm from seattle. i would recommend it. i have lots of customers. they talk to me a lot. they're coming from one hour... they're coming from napa, gilroy, hollister, all different areas. it's hard to go to new york and try the original spiral from lafayette.
