have substance abuse disorder and their primary substance is fentanyl, we really need to make sure that we're able to help these folks and very quickly. liz: and those that's was tara campbell reporting. some are hoping the governor will reconsider safe consumption sites. last summer, they paid for the city to pilot the site including san francisco. and tara has been reporting and covering th the opioid crisis extensively and she put together a documentary about how it works. moving on now, an investigation is underway into a deadly wrong way crash in marin county around 3:30 this morning on southbound 101. that is where a pickup heading northbound slammed head on into a black b.m.w.

authorities believe alcohol was a factor. the pickup driver was a 22-year-old man from santa rosa he died at the scene the driver is a 30-year-old man from navarro. he sustained major injuries and is currently at marin general hospital. all lanes are back open after being shut down for three hours. an update on a story we first told you about on tuesday. a pedestrian struck by a car in kent ridge drive in san jose has died. this is the sixth deadly collision involving a pedestrian this year the driver was taken into custody but we have not heard if an arrest has been made. san jose police say the crash is still under investigation. people living in a san francisco apartment that burned say they have been revictimized. thieves broke in, stealing valuables that belonged to those displaced. we spoke to some residents and the fire official about some

issues. >> knowing up the building was going in flames, it was not the most traumatic part they have reek for this woman, who requested we do not use her last name. >> i did not think about something worse that could happen and it just added to everything. >> as she pointed out to the gaping holes along leavenworth street she explained how thieves entered the building, not once but twice after the blaze. >> they took most of my valuables, maybe about around $10,000 or more. >> i personally chased-off a bunch. one just last night with a crowbar. >> these consecutive crimes especially after a fire that initially displaced nearly two dozen people including a 97-year-old grandma is distressing. >> i haven't gotten any sleep. none. i have bloodshot eyes. i'm living in fear. and i'm living in fear of people coming into the unit all day

abc7 news. liz: and we've learned the earliest teachers in oakland could go on strike is may 1. they are still voting with the final day being monday. according the unified school district, negotiations are still going and bargaining sessions are scheduled for next week after potential strike could happen when test for advanced placement courses are scheduled. oakland unified appealed to a state board to prevent a strike. google's development project is on hold and it is not sure when it will resume even with construction being paused, the effects are visible. lauren martinez talked to city leaders about what the future holds for the project. >> a report that google's multi-million-dollar south bay campus has been put on pause caused quite the certain friday afternoon. >> brought you all here to share that there's actually no news, which in this case is good news. >> san jose mayor held a press conference to reassure the

that nothing has changed. google is slated to build a massive mixed use project of office buildings and housing units on 80 acres on the sap center. google is shedding jobs. >> they've speed up when there's growth and when companies are contracting, pulling back a little bit after a period of overhiring, they slow down capital investment. >> a google spokesperson released this statement. as we've stated, we're working to ensure our real estate investments match the future needs of our hybrid workforce, our business and our communities. it goes on to say they're still committed to san jose. >> this project would go faster, slower based on google's hiring needs and that's determined by the larger economy. >> google has a 30-year development agreement. the timeline of when the tech giant decides to build will be determined like any other private property owner.

authorities throne hundred for one or more shooting suspects after eight people were shot at two separate locations in washington, d.c. late last night. seven people were shot at the first location. at the second location, police found a 12-year-old girl shot with nonlife-threating injuries. she is expected to survive. all the victims are in stable condition. people are unsure if both shootings are related the motive is still being investigated at this time. the two suspects in tuesday's deadly shooting at a home depot in pleasanton appeared in court yesterday. the two were arraigned separately. one was charged with four felonies for killing and shooting an unarmed home depot security worker. court documents say she told police her gun went off as she tried to wrestle an item out of her hands. gilroy was charge evading an

liz: april is earth month and along abc7 and "national geographic" have been focusing on water. gloria rodriquez went to the sierra nevada foothills to see where drink water originates for more than a million east bay mud customers and how it gets from the source to your home. the california, we've been dealing with drought conditions throughout the year. but this recent abundance of water doesn't mean our water issues are over. >> in california, you're never the clear.

you're never fully the clear when it comes to drought or floods. the challenges in california is the significant amount of variability from year-to-year. >> dylan is the east bay district's superintendent. the dam was built in the 1920's to supply water. i like to the top of the 345-foot dam. it's a strenuous climb but you get a sense of how the water gets from the dam in the sierra nevada foothills to the 1.4 million customers the bay area more than 100 miles away. steve is the dam's superintendent saying we have cycles of drought and heavy rain. >> we had heavy water years in 2017. another one in 2019. another one this year. but in 2015, we were in the worst drought we had been in since 1976. so, it's just boom and bust.

>> about 90% of the dnkg reservoir and en gs to the dam and through aqueducts to be treated. they're undergoing a major project to upgrade the plant. i geared up in a hard hat and safety vest to get a look at the construction site for the expansion of the water treatment plant. it'll be the size of a football field. this is a rendering of the 325 million project expected to be completed in 2027. >> we have 90 miles of pipelines that come from the party team water treatment plant. it takes between two to four days for the water to get here. once it's here, it goes through a filtration process similar to a britta filter you might have at home and this project is ad adding ultraviolet diinfection to improve the water quality. >> the water then travels to

he a's most likely leaving he says this creates the possibility of building something new on the site. >> sites that big and that well connected just have the potential to do those types of things. it help bring about recovery as well as, you know, bring about economic expansion. >> he says the plan now is zeroing in on his specific project. sports fans and oakland sport a move to keep oakland as a city. chris dobbins was a member. he now runs a group called save oakland sports and says the site has enormous potential. >> it's probably the best site in the state of california. you don't have that land anywhere next to a major thoroughfare 880. there's nothing better. >> he has held season tickets for the a's for decades. he says losing that team is a bad look on the city. >> it's really a tragedy today a's are going to move. and after always losing the warriors and the raiders they can a's are goneel

a beautiful start to your saturday. 55 downtown. 58 in oakland with 61 in paolo aalto. it is sunny there in san jose. 63, mountain view. blue skies. temperatures well above the average which should be about 70 this time of year, going into the upper 70's. it is 66 already. santa rosa is going to be another warm afternoon up in the north bay. 64 in concord. we'll have a few more 80's today. livermore, 60. we will have those winds allowing for the breeze, along the peninsula today. so redwood city, belmont, cooler. san francisco, temperatures will be in and around average but elsewhere, we are warmer this morning, well above average this afternoon. and upper elevation winds gusting to over 30 miles an hour. mt. diablo and mt. tam at 67 degrees. and the winds in the north bay are out of the north, helping to mix the atmosphere, keep it

milder this morning. emeryville, look how sunny and pretty it is there. the clear sky for everyone this morning, fog at the coast. increasing clouds late in the day. that will keep cuss warm inland. we will have those breezy winds at the coast. quite gusty as we get to your sunday afternoon allowing the temperatures to come down a bit the second half of the weekend into the first part thief workweek. here are some high clouds late the day and here comes the low cloud deck. and then we're back into sunny skies, cloudy beaches, but as for today, we'll get some sun at the coast but the winds will be up to 30 miles an hour, maybe better than that around lima, inverness, and half moon bay up to about 30 miles an hour, maybe monitorra. overall, the temperatures will be above average. here's a look at san jose where we'll get to that 78 today.
