peninsula. we talked about the low clouds forming yesterday. we will see minor changes for the afternoon high. 54 in union city, 52 closer to the is fog pacifica to half moon bay. 50 downtown, and that foggy start on the peninsula, the south bay, allowing the fog to linger through the morning hours. closer to noon, we have sunshine and temperatures is still cool at the coast, but we are climbing to the 60's in london around the bay. as we look at our 4:00 p.m. temperatures, numbers are climbing into the 70's once again. we should be shy of average, shy of 80 degrees inland, but near average today. we will talk about how much the cooling continues as we start monday in a few minutes, gloria. gloria: sounds good. thank you so much, lisa. two people are dead following a shooting at a hookah lounge in hayward. they say there has been trouble at the lounge before, and they have ordered it to be shut down. abc 7 news reporter ryan curry

went to the business on mission boulevard and found neighbors are concerned for their safety. ryan: this hookah lounge off eyne aer 1:3oting accordingd was adn ont of a lounge.son >> w don't know how many subjects were involved, but it seems like some type of disturbance and there was a shootout ryan: three others went to local hospitals to be treated for gunshot wounds from the shooting. one of them later died when authorities arrived at the lounge, they noticed numerous shell casings. >> i was pretty sure they were gunshots, and i told my sister, did you hear that? she said they were operably fireworks. maybe three minutes after the gunshots, police pulled up. ryan: kimberly maximo lives blocks away and pulled up and noticed dozens of police. >> on the floor, i'm pretty sure she saw the body, and police

officers started surrounding it. ryan: you can see the front entrance to the hookah lounge now boarded up. the alameda county sheriff's office put a notice on the door, saying no one is allowed in while they continue this investigation. we noticed multiple people boarding up the lounge saturday afternoon. we ask them if they owned the lounge, and we did not receive a clear answer. they declined to do interviews. maximo says this neighborhood is mostly quiet, but that lounge could bring is a dangerous crowd. >> i want to say the area is safe but the hookah lounge i think it is not safe to be near homes with a lot of people and kids. ryan: the sheriff office says the county has cited the owner for violations of safety and selling alcohol without proper permits. >> drunken public disputes, code enforcement has been here. ryan: they are asking anyone with information to come

forward. they did not say if they arrested anyone. in hayward, ryan curry, abc 7 news. gloria: an investigation underway into a deadly wrong-way crash. it happened around 3:30 saturday morning north of the 580 interchange. that is when a pickup truck heading in the southbound lane slammed head-on into a black bmw. the driver, a 22-year-old man, died. authorities say they believe he was under the influence of alcohol. the driver in the bmw identified as 30-year-old trey from nevada, and his father tells us his side was on his way to work at the airport. he says he underwent surgery yesterday and has more surgeries today. one and dad and two other and, including 14-year-old boy injured following a wrong-way crash of interstate 280. it happened south of highway 92 at around 4:00 p.m. yesterday, according to the chp. investigators say the woman was

in bmw headed southbound when a white ford sedan headed the wrong direction collided with her. the driver of the sedan has minor injuries. a boy who was a passenger in the bmw is hospitalized with major injuries. as the investigation into the antioch police department grows, two u.s. congressman calling on the u.s. department of justice to investigate. this comes as three chapters of the naacp will be meeting with the contra costa district attorney next week. abc 7 news reporter anser hassan has the latest twist to this scandal. >> we have got an urgent situation right now, and the department of justice has to be a part of the solution. anser: u.s. congressman is responding to the texting scandal at the antioch police department. he and congressman jerry mandy

have written to the u.s. department of justice to launch a formal investigation. >> be aware at this moment we have some real constitutional issues and some public safety issues and some racism that we have to address immediately. anser: this comes after reports reveal a chain of racist and homophobic text messages sent by antioch police officers over a period of almost two years. according to the contra costa county public defender's office, close to 40% of the entire police force may have been involved. you have been representing contra costa county in antioch for a long time. these messages go back years. have you ever had any inclination that this was going on in antioch? or that it was so prevalent? >> i'm not naive, but i certainly did not expect anything remotely like this. 5 to respond. it will not end there. he requested a meeting stephen ford.

>> this type of racism in this profession is a large warning sign to me. it should be to every american. anser: the president of the east county chapter of the enable acp -- naacp, which includes antioch, she supports an investigation. >> more eyes and the more things we can see. this is an opportunity to right wrongs that have been around for a long time. anser: she is calling for federal oversight of the antioch police department. two other chapters of the naacp tuesday for meetings with the d.a. to present their concerns. >> it is one thing to be falsely accused of a crime, a second thing for the legal system t victimize you when they know a wrong has been committed to be able to correct that wrong. anser: in anti abc 7 news. gloria: city officials have released as showing changes taking place at what used to be the city's largest homeless

encampment. cleanup crews have removed tons of trash and debris. they also towed nine vehicles, including six that were stolen. the city says three dozen former residents have accepted shelter at the new cabin program. work underway to develop 170 units of permanent affordable housing at the location. in the north bay, novato has fallen short in its plan to meet state housing requirements. the journal says state officials have said the city a 10 page directive outlining the changes they want. novato has been told to create more than 2000 new homes between now and 2031. the city does not have to build the homes, but it has made promising changes to help make the construction. they have to accommodate growth every eight years. sonoma county officials are hoping updated camping regulations will help to stop homeless and came in from popping up along the trail.

reopened a month afterhe county cleared a large homeless encampment. the 8.5-mile trail connects downtown santa rosa. it has long been a magnet for homeless encampments. more than a dozen aspiring firefighters getting their second chance at a dream career and a new beginning. the 4th street fire recruitment program welcomed its latest graduating class yesterday at a ceremony in oakland. the senior graduates have completed a strenuous firefighter training program. they are all formerly incarcerated. they learned basic wildfire firefighting skills while in prison. >> i had done a decent amount of time. i just didn't 10 years. i was not technology savvy, i was not as well. it was actually a chance conversation with an employment coach at my previous job that landed me with a flyer from

gloria: developing news from southern california, a fire on tom sawyer island in disneyland. flames broke out during a live performance. you can see that robotic dragon on fire. a witness says cast members evacuated the area around frontierland while the rest of the park remained open. the extent of the damage is not clear right now. the fire department says no injuries have been reported. longtime facebook users may be entitled to some settlement money. facebook's parent company meta has agreed to pay hundreds of millions of dollars after a lawsuit over data sharing. now you can apply to receive the -- some of the settlement money.

abc 7 news reporter zach has the details. zach: did you have a facebook account between 2007 and 2022? then you may be eligible for a settlement payment. facebook boasts more than 2 billion active users, making it one of the largest social media companies, but its popularity has been impacted recently. it has laid off another round of workers. long before that was announced the company had been involved in another scandal. >> they gave access of our data to a third party. zach: that third-party data analytic firm that worked with the trump campaign. a class action lawsuit was filed four years later, facebook agreed to settle. facebook users can apply to get a piece of the $727 million settlement. >> i applied myself. any wrongdoing, facebook agreed

founded in 1946 by william kelly -- keller and william moore. it is one of the countries largest companies. the company has 157 stores in california and texas as well as oklahoma and nevada. it sells most of its products to trade professionals. a public meeting on monday to consider making part of state highway 37 a toll road. the tooll would cover a 21-mile stretch between sears point and mare island. that portion has been plagued by flooding and congestion and state and local agencies are hoping to find a way to upgrade it. the meeting will provide an overview of the toll approval process with a summary of the project and the timeline for public comment. it will be held at the john f. kennedy library in vallejo at 5:30 p.m. abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area. we are focusing on the climate and the environment with earth day celebrations happening all

things sustainable, recyclable and vegan were being celebrated. >> we want to keep the focus on having reusable, sus and we wanted to have a lot of vegan food as well, so people can taste how delicious it is to go plant base. cornell: in marin county, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. gloria: happening today, center is planting 72 trees at its headquarters to celebrate earth day. 60 community members are expected to help out this weekend. the center is replacing invasive species of trees on 1-10 ratio and finding nature-based solutions to climate change. >> we follow a practice to solve at things you perceive to be a problem, and we implement those solutions for the earth and our communities. gloria: volunteers planting the trees and 400 tons of compost harvested over the past couple of years. donations have come in from

local businesses and oakland zoo and a hydroelectric company, even non-native trees being replaced are being use d sustainably to build a greenhouse. we know a lot of people will be out there for earth day celebrations all weekend long. lisa, how will it look for earth day? lisa: it is such a great event. pretty nice. we have some mist and drizzle. temperatures are averaging around 63, so we are around that but a return to low clouds and fog, makes it feel like summer. slightly cooler weather heading our way for some of us today. there is a system to the north influencing our weather today, tomorrow. a few high clouds in addition to that. if you look at mount tam, a low cloud deck firmly in place here where we look at temperatures coming out of the 80's today, far in the north bay. that breeze from mill valley to san rafael today, certainly you

all kind have declined since tho change the trend. abc 7 news reporter zach fuentes has the latest. zach: father of two stephen brock says he has made an effort to keep his kids up-to-date on immunizations but says at times it has been challenging. >> with covid and everything, it has been hard to get into the hospital and every thing, so a lot of the regular schedule, three months, six-month, one year went by the wayside. zach: national and global data showed a decline of vaccines. data from the department of health said hundreds of santa clara county converters are past due for required vaccinations, something the county says puts them at risk of illness and keep them from going to school. patricia of the immunization program manager says they are focused on making sure kids are getting both required and

recommended vaccines the department held listening sessions with community members pay they found missed appointments are a big reason for the numbers seen but they also learned more. >> we also found it was misinformation, that community was asked to provide more formation on the vaccines. zach: now in a push to boost vaccine numbers and provide truthful in the right -- information, santa clara county is launching a new campaign called vaccines are a part of growing up, and targeting multiple cultures and multiple languages. >> we want to reach all of the community in santa clara county, so they get informed, they know the vaccines are safe. zach: the website providing information and resources to parents about vaccines, finding vaccine records, and low cost ways to get them. >> i'm definitely in favor of building immunity for the whole population paired when kids are at the age when they are particularly vulnerable to lots of viruses and diseases, i think it is up to the parents to make the informed choice to protect their kids.

enters its second week of fighting. abc7 news reporter allison cos eck has the latest. >> as the conflict in sudantensl sa t department of defense is considering using droneland sudan and possibly sending navy slips to evacuate any americans who make it there. that's as an estimated 16,000 americans remain in sudan including about 70 u.s. embassy personnel. though the state department says a larger scale evacuation isn't in the box, the u.s. military has evacuated and closed the american embassy in sudan. senior administration officials call that a difficult decision and said efforts would continue to assist americans still trapped in the country. these two children are stranded with their aunt. >> we try to protect the

embassy. we send them many e-mails. we try to call that is not answering sometimes. >> the family of a mother from massachusetts, frustrated. charlie and her 18-month-old daughter moved to sudan less than a year ago to teach at a school. >> as a u.s. citizen who works abroad, she's always been told the u.s. embassy has her back and it's very clear that they derozan. >> u.s. troops had been deployed to the region but the state department reiterating a warning to americans. >> we have been clear eyed about how american since should not travel to sudan for months now. we have communicated to american citizens in the country about safety and security measures and precautions that they can take. >> this as 72-hour cease-fire announced by both sides friday deteriorating. at least 400 people have been killed in the violence including one american.

abc7 news, new york. gloria: a sewage spill has closed seven miles of ocean beach in southern california. about 250,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the los angeles river on thursday. the river connects to the pacific ocean at long beach. the city of long beach declares the coast off-limits to swimmers and water sports sexual abuse enthusiasts -- enthusiasts but not everyone got the message. >> i hope none of us get sick because we're going to have come back here and figure that out. they should be close all these spots and not let us get in here. gloria: the spill was caused by malfunction. authorities are hoping to reopen the beaches on wednesday. tests are scheduled for monday and tuesday. the water has to be tested twice and come back clean before it is considered safe. residents in one neighborhood in central indiana are still buzzing about a very plowed boom. -- loud boom.

[boom] gloria: that's how it sounded and this is what it looked like as what appears to be a meteor streaked across the sky over the town of westfield. emergency management official says the meteor likely caused that sonic boom sound the national weather service picked up something on the system which had picked it up in the past. a new half billion dollar mixed use is open despite years of backlash. the change may be hard to accept at first but will ultimately help build a better bay area. dustin dorsey explains. >> cities across the bay area are always grappling with how to solve the tough issues involving housing, transit and community. the city of millbrae believe they have an answer. >> a winning concept of hotel, retail, housing, and biotech campus is coming around here.

days. just some cold mornings the last week. 50 in santa cruz with highs today the upper 60's. so we'll get some clearing here. but the clearing closer to home will be a little bit hard-pressed because we have a pretty strong onshore flow. so the low clouds clinging to the coast but brighter skies break away from the shoreline. and minor cooling in the peninsula. inland, could see about 80 again. but out of the low 80's for most of us with tuesday, wednesday and thursday reserve for the very warm weather. so a mixture of a few high clouds, those breezy to gusty winds at the coast today. they'll continue to keep it cool right on through the bay, around the bay shore. and as we get into your monday, waking up to a healthy marine layer and by the afternoon, some pretty gusty winds here. a look at parts on the north bay and the rest to the bay area, shows even though we're coming down in temperatures today and

tomorrow, we're still above average. should see mid 60's in oakland. look what happens tuesday, wednesday, thursday. warmest inland valleys could be near 90. plenty of mid 70's to upper 70's long the bay shore. today, beautiful day in the city with temperatures in the 60's for the giants. temperatures will be comfortable but the winds kind of offsetting that with breezy conditions in the south bay. numbers cooler. 73 santa clara. you'll notice the cooling here from belmont and redwood city, redwood shore, a cooler day and along the coast from half moon bay to montero, daily city. and in the north bay, sunny but numbers from the low 70's from nevada. breezy in spots. 76 in union city. plenty of sun. more tempered day for you.
