under each flag and they deserve to be excoriated. and they have been. lonnie tribe chairwoman charlene supports the 450,000 removal of the statue, but does not want to erase the history. she hopes the statue will be eventually moved to a museum because both sides of the story needs to be represented for everyone to learn and grow. it's a time for healing now, right? to acknowledge the past, acknowledge the truths and the genocides that have happened here in california and around the world. because how are we going to start healing if we don't acknowledge the past atrocities andat firstew all righ let's turn now to the weather going to get hot at least in parts of the bay area. spencer christian is here now with a first look at the forecast. oh, so nice out there. yes very nice. right now it's going to get even nicer, if you like, a warming trend. and that's what we have for you.
4:09 pm
check out the 24 hour temperature change. you can see right across the bay right now, it's about 9 to 13 degrees warmer in most locations than at this time yesterday or tomorrow. we can expect high temperatures in our inland areas near 90. and looking farther ahead, thursday, highs in the low 90s and the warmest inland spots we'll see mid 80s around the bay shoreline , a similar range on friday. so the hot weather or the warm weather is definitely coming our way and in the lake tahoe area, especially in the south lake tahoe area, look at the warming over the next several days going into the weekend. that's going to add to the pace of the snow melt, which, of course, will elevate concerns about flooding. not that we're predicting that yet. just want to give you a picture of how warm it's going to be, larry. all right, spencer, thank you. speaking of flooding, concern is a slow motion disaster is unfolding in the central valley. it's expected to get worse in the coming weeks. governor gavin newsom visited the tulare basin to see the scope of flooding that is affecting four communities. they're dried out. lake toledo, tillery lake has made its return swamping farms

to the galaxy volume three. only peters may 5thci toy preside biden his reelec camig with a new ran for president four years ago, i said we're in a battle for the soul of america and we still are. the question we're facing is whether in the years ahead, we have more freedom or less freedom, more rights or fewer. i know what i want the answer to be and i think you do, too. today marks four years to the day that president biden announced his 2020 candidacy. joining me now is abc seven news political analyst jackie speier. jackie thanks for your time. president biden already the oldest president in us history. he'd be 86 at the end of a second term. and there's a new survey out that said 70% of americans believe he should not run again, many because of his age. do you think this is going to be a big problem in his reelection bid? you know, there's no question that age will play a part. 51%
4:15 pm
of democrats don't think he should run again. the question really that will be answered is if donald trump is the candidate on the republican side and it's a rerun of 2020, it actually puts biden in a better position . i think the video could have been better today. i think it wasn't as vigorous as he really needs to be moving forward. so no age will be an issue, but he does have incumbency. he does have the fact that donald trump has seen as someone who has had multiple problems with the law, so to speak, with one indictment, and now maybe 2 or 3 others. and then the abortion issue is going to play a big role as well. you mentioned former president trump. he released his own video today and he said it was inconceivable that biden would run again. but as far as age goes, donald trump is only four years younger than biden, although he doesn't really appear that way. agreed
4:16 pm
agreed. i mean, i think their ages are pretty similar. one could argue that president biden is looks more fit than former president trump, but age between them, i think is really not the issue as much as it is the fact that biden has got to show that he is vigorous. all right. the age issue is tied into this because we saw vice president kamala harris multiple times in the video that you were talking about. why do you think the democrats feel it's important to show her right now? well, it was very important for him to show her because there was some question as to whether or not she was going to be his appointed nominee. again clearly, she is the african american female vote is key to democratic victory. the president has shown that he is lacking in support among new voters. young voters and those
4:17 pm
who are nonwhite voters. so having kamala harris, the vice president, front and center, is going to be key in his reelection. what about the possibility of any democrat challengers to the president? obviously gavin newsom has made his presence felt on more of a national basis, given the issues in florida and in other states. well, there are two announced candidates, robert kennedy, the third, and marianne wilson wilson. but williamson excuse me, but i think that there is not going to get they are not going to get much traction. there will be unity within the party on behalf of the president. what the president has to be aware of is his polling is still under 50. and of those presidents that had polling under 50, they were ronald reagan, donald trump and jimmy carter. and the only one
4:18 pm
that really survived with that kind of polling was ronald reagan. so the president has his work cut out for him. no question about it ways to go. t. yeah, very true. we will be talking about this a lot going forward for 18 months. yes, exactly. jackie speier, our abc seven news political insider, thanks so much for your time. santa clara county is trying to spread the word about a new resource for anyone contemplating suicide. the county's crisis and suicide prevention lifeline can now be reached by dialing nine, eight, eight. the behavioralearvic darn muiplelyoncernedut how get theca stepping up gives us another way to let the community know that there is hope. when you call nine eight, eight. thank you.

warmest inland spots friday a similar picture maybe not quite so many 90 degree readings showing up but near 90 and many inland spots on friday. and then finally on saturday we'll see the heat beginning to ease just a little bit. but still, it's tohe weekend. we don't expect any significant cooling until later in the forecast period. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast. sunny skies all the way through the forecast period. certainly through the weekend. and we're talking about warm to hot weather on well, tomorrow, thursday and friday with inland highs in again low 90s in the warmest spot mid 80s around the bay on thursday and friday. the warmth eases just a few degrees on saturday. that's still a very warm day with upper 80s inland breezy and cooler on saturday and then sharply cooler on monday. we're talking about maybe a 10 degrees drop in high temperatures from sunday into monday. then we get a few clouds in the picture on tuesday and it gets even cooler. so we're going from very, very warm weather, well above the average

is in the newsroom now with a look at what they're doing. suzanne so, larry, kristin, mayor breed says she's looking for new and creative ways to bring people and business back into downtown san francisco. sapp leaders say their new office plan allows for collaboration, creativity and innovation among workers and encourages them to come back into the office by choice. san francisco is a place of possibilities, a place of opportunity, of creative city. the mayor of san francisco says she believes that downtown sf can come back and that sap may be part of the answer. some of you may have seen the economic recovery plan that i put out to talk about new and creative ways to do business, and i'm really excited that sap is here in san francisco. sap a leading software company for enterprise application, has 100,000 employees worldwide and 4500 of them in the bay area. it just opened a brand new downtown san francisco office with space for hundreds of workers. the future of work is definitely hybrid. we
4:31 pm
enable people to work remotely, but also encourage people to come to the office. sap made numerous changes and included all sorts of accommodations for hybrid workers in downtown. it added couches, comfy chairs, private spaces for personal conversation and work pods. employees can move around to any desk they want. this is our design thinking room. the office features a flex hall with food catered daily from local restaurants. it has regular event space with pullout bleachers. there's an open staircase, there's a rooftop with great views as well as wi-fi barbecues, not to mention it's right next to the ballpark . sap leaders say the new office space is designed to foster collaboration for hybrid workers. definitely employers has a role here. how to create this new reality, the new future of work and make an environment. and employees will choose to come to the office rather to be forced to come back to the office. we asked the mayor of hybrid work is the future of downtown sf? i think the new normal is a new workspace. however many small businesses
4:32 pm
tell me they're still hoping workers return to the office full time. we need them to be back. so it's very hard time for us to be running business. yeah, we don't make enough money for right now. it's not so. so why sap says besides being committed to its employees, it's also committed to the community. and it says it will continue supporting nearby businesses. small mom and pop restaurants, for example, bringing in local catering daily for its employees . live in the newsroom, suzanne vaughn, abc seven news. all right, suzanne, thank you. the wine business is undergoing some changes in part due to climate change. spencer christian is here with the author of a new book on this topic. this is a topic that spencer has spent basically his entire life studying. spencer well, you could say that the title of the book is crushed. how a changing climate is altering the way we drink, and it looks at the effects of climate change on winemaking and the response from winemakers around the world. and joining you now is the author, brian friedman, whom i'll be joining this evening for a chat
4:33 pm
at the commonwealth club. and brian, great to have you with us. thanks for having me. it's great to be here with you. well, talking about two of my favorite subjects, wine and weather. and you describe some changes. you write about changes that are potentially devastating to the wine industry. so why don't you describe for us some of the ways that a changing climate is changing the wine industry? absolutely. so look, we all see , you know, the dramatic effects, right? the fires, the frost, it's the hail. and that certainly is having a giant impact. right. a lot of times that's very difficult, if not impossible, to come back from in some cases. but there are also some systemic changes that are happening as well. a winemaker in texas once told me that it's not so much about about global warming as it is global weirding. so you know, past is no longer necessary. a guide to the present or the future. so, you know, when does bud break happen? when does harvest have to happen? all these things are slowly and sometimes not so slowly shifting. and these are changes that that growers and producers are having to grapple with. they have to adapt to. so what kinds of changes are they
4:34 pm
making in the growing and production of wine? well, here's the good news, right? as i was researching and reporting and writing this book, i solidified what i have suspected all along, and that is that the people who are responsive for producing and growing these amazing liquids in our glass, they are some of the most forward thinking, smart, creative people around. and if any group of people is going to show us a way forward, it's the people who are responsible for wines like these. yeah, because making wine, you've always had to pivot, right? there are very few other crops aside from wine grapes where people ask, was it a good year? was it a bad year? so there's always been that pressure to find a way forward. and producers like these cut iron horse, lark mead, they're all really leaders in the industry. oh, by the way, let me interject that winemakers from these three wineries will be featured with you tonight in this panel discussion at the commonwealth club and i'll be fortunate enough to be the moderator, but go right ahead. yeah. so and actually we'll have them open tonight, which is
4:35 pm
great. it's very hard to sit here without open bottles of delicious wine. but yeah, it's these changes that are happening, you know, expect to see things shift in the coming years. right. and that might be what are you talking about shifting locations, for example . you know, will we no longer be able to visit our favorite wineries in napa and sonoma? will they be moving somewhere else to produce different kinds of grapes for the foreseeable future? we will still have world class wines being produced in napa and sonoma and willamette valley, bordeaux, burgundy. but styles might shift right in years where there are dramatic heat spikes, the wines might be a little bit richer, a little bit higher in alcohol in years where there are fires, for example, or ill timed frosts or hails early in the season, that could mean that there will be less wine available. and we've seen all of those shifts already to some extent. but how are these changes that are occurring with the climate and their effect on the grapes happening uniformly or more rapidly in some places than in others? for example, in napa versus sonoma
4:36 pm
or bordeaux versus burgundy, it depends on the year that you're asking me that question. yeah, it really there's just no consistency with what's happening. one of the chapters in my book, for example, focuses on the incredibly impressive sparkling wine industry of southern and southeastern england. i read that right. and this is a place where forever why would they make great wine sparkling wine in england, right? we're not talking about. couldn't make great sparkling wine in england at one point. that's right. but then if you look the sort of white, chalky soils of that part of england and the white chalky soils of champagne, we're talking about similar geological origins, a quarter billion years ago. it's just northern france and the channel got in the way. so the temperature goes up 1 or 2°c. all of a sudden you can produce great wines. so it really does depend. but here's the key. the best producers like the ones that we're going to be focusing on tonight and like the ones that all of us love to visit in napa, sonoma, bordeaux, the best producers will find a way to craft wonderful wines that are expressive of their place and of
4:37 pm
that vintage. we as consumers just have to be open to accepting varying styles, which frankly is half the fun. i'm thankful for innovative, smart people in the wine industry who keep making the wine that we love, the wines that we love. once again tonight at the commonwealth club, we'll be featuring brian friedman, author of the book crushed along with the winemakers from these wineries. and if you're not going to be there in person, you can also find a way to watch this virtually. i'll be moderating that conversation. i'm happy to say. and brian, thanks for joining us. i'll see you later this evening. thanks for having me. okay all right, larry. yeah, thank you. from wine to fine dining, the top restaurants in the us, including a few right here in the bay area , meet the future. a chef, a designer and an engineer, all learning to save and spend their money with. chase the chefs cooking up first with her new debit card. hungry, the designers eyeing sequins. no plaid while mom is eyeing a spending be nice and the

4:41 pm
early adopter of any of this stuff. i wait to see who wins and then i jump on board. i'm happy to do that. jack dorsey i wouldn't bet against him for anything thing and tiktok interesting enough so they're looking for a i did not realize they had something going that they're looking for a another platform so they don't get in trouble with that one like they are with this one. i don't know. yeah. thank you, mr. bandwagon jumper. spencer, how about you? well, i guess i'm a bandwagon jumper also. i'm with michael. it's hard to bet against jack dorsey, but on the other hand, i like to wait until i understand how these things work and see whether i really have any use for them before i try to use them. yeah, i'm thinking of a twitter substitute, basically. yeah. yeah, i'll just add one sentence from talking to an expert. he says decentralization is what's happening now with social media. we're going to find the little places that suit us, where we find, you know, and the big ones kind of gone. you know? so we'll see. go ahead. bring your dog to dinner. the fda says it's perfectly safe to
4:42 pm
bring dogs to restaurants with outdoor seating. that's part of the new guidance in the latest fda food code. the agency still says dogs shouldn't go inside restaurants unless they are service dogs. and there's no exception for emotional support. dogs, yes. yeah. really? well, i get emotional support from the food and wine, but. but this is i think that's a good policy. right yeah. i mean, you know, the whole emotional support animal thing is i remember a few years ago was was a lady had a peacock or something, was trying to get on a plane with her. so it's a fine line to walk there. but i feel like for people that really need those animals in order to feel comfortable, i would just like to see an exception made for them. that's a good point to me. i mean, that's why the fda is now saying go ahead. right. i mean, i think people will probably listen to that and see that. you know, michael. yeah. you know, if people have their companion animals, just companion animals under control, i'm pretty much happy with them everywhere. what
4:43 pm
i don't want to have to do is stop what i'm doing to get their dog away from me. if it's bothering me or jumping on me. i mean, we're in public. how about you control? and by the way, this goes for children. this is not that. michael you attract all kinds. michael you know, animals. little kids like. well, that wasn't my point. but he is the pied piper. the pied piper? yeah michael, 52, san francisco restaurants being heralded as among the best in the country, according to readers of the food and wine magazine. i'll tell you, crenn and benu are sixth and 10th best restaurants in the entire country. i'll tell you, crenn is described as a once in a lifetime event, while benu is called a tranq quill oasis in the center of san francisco. using my voiceover for that spencer, you're probably the only one that might have eaten at those of stop. oh, you did too, banu yeah, there you go, guys. how about you get some

we finish with public comment. yeah. a nine year old chilean palmer waited 90 minutes. have you here right. so nine year old chilean palmer waited 90 minutes to speak at the board of education meeting in michigan, then read an essay detailing why he didn't like the mac and cheese. two days later, chilean said he noticed a change in the mac and cheese and he liked it. so he affected change like less cheese, more pasta, democracy at work right there with a nine year old kid. activism activism. there you go. that's a great consumer right there. rather than every four days eating this stuff. he went and complained to the right people. now they changed it. that's how the world works. yep. that's how it should work, right? yeah, it should work. yeah. i start with the mac and cheese. larry and then you move on to more bike lanes and then you move on to, like, more housing, you know, it's. yeah. yes more time for weather. oh, maybe not. i don't think anybody was requesting that. actually. i'll request it every day with
