[laughter] we have some dense fog out there again. half moon bay, we are down to a quarter mile visibility. in the north bay, especially petaluma, we are down to three quarters of a mile visibility. temperature-wise most of us starting our morning in the 50's. it feels warmer out there this morning. look at san jose. close to 60 degrees right now. it is 62 in fairfield. good morning, oakland. you are at 52 this morning. we take a look at our afternoon high, and we will find we are maybe one or two degrees cooler compared to yesterday. yesterday was certainly the warmest day, but we have 90's inland once again. 90 in livermore. 77, oakland. it is a little bit cooler in the city. we will get up to the 60's this afternoon. 86 in santa rosa. we will preview that weekend

forecast coming up. kumasi: a woman is in the hospital this morning after she was shot at a walgreens in san francisco last night. it happened at the store near fourth and market streets. officers say they responded to a report of a shooting around 6:30 p.m., and that is when they found the victim with a gunshot wound. she was transported to a nearby hospital. there has not been an update on her condition. abc 7 news spoke with a woman who said friends with the victim. she was near the checkout register when she heard two gunshots and saw her friend collapsed. >> as soon as we was walking out all we heard was room, boom, and she drops to the floor. it was that. all he did was pick up that gun and shoot twice and walked to the back. people in the store started charging at him. kumasi: goodness. the friend said the victim, who did not want to tell us her name, was 19 years old. authorities say a person was possibly involved in the

shooting was detained yesterday. investigators have not said what led up to the incident. reggie: the man arrested after an altercation with former fire commissioner don carmignani has been released from jail. a judge ordered garret doty's release after common yanni did not show up -- carmignani did not show up to court yesterday. the public defender's office released new video which they say shows carmignani initiated the altercation. earlier this week they accused carmignani of targeting other on house people with bear spray. yesterday we heard from one of carmignani's friends and the public defender. >> why could they not have done a zoom call? why was the district attorney making this happen? >> unless mr. carmignani credible and believable, they don't have a prosecution. reggie: the charges have not

been dropped. his pulmonary hearing was scheduled for next month. he is required to check in with law enforcement once a week. kumasi: a minnen woman accused of a deadly shooting of a home depot employee are expected to be in court today. 32-year-old venetian naps shot and killed security guard blake moz last week. court documents say she told police her gun went off accident as he tried to wrestle a stolen item out of her hand. david guillory is accused of being the getaway driver. both suspects are doing court in dublin at 9:00 this morning. reggie: take a close look at the middle of the video. that is being blamed for a large power outages. flames are from a transformer fire in a pg&e fault. the fire happened wednesday night, and the lights may not come back on until tomorrow morning. abc 7 news reported jared stone found the outage is having a big impact.

>> this is all new video showing what is called a vault, or underground transformer fire, that burned wednesday night in san francisco. flames could be seen shooting out of this manhole, and smoke coming out of this one near clay and montgomery. >> there is a -- there is a big ball of flames with greasy black smoke, and it billowed up out of two different manholes. reporter: while the fire is now out, so are the lights for hundreds of customers. >> we are just hoping we get the power back on as soon as possible. reporter: the owner of the barbarossa lounge told us the power went out wednesday night during a private event which was forced to end early, with tabs left open. he was told the power may not come back on until 10:00 a.m. saturday, a huge loss on a busy weekend. >> you have the convention with the security, you also have the warriors game, which sold out, and then weekends are typically our biggest night.

so, you are looking at an estimated $50,000-plus. reporter: there was bringing in a generator for this location, but a large one would be needed, and management believes it would be too loud for the residential neighborhood. these small generators are going full blast at the end of the block for a special event, one that drew dozens of people eager to meet and listen to japanese architect shay carew bond, which is speaking at a location without electricity. aaron peskin says the department responded within three minutes, but it took pg&e, most experience with electrical fires, 45 minutes to get there. >> it is a mess. pg&e has a lot of explain to do as to how they allowed this fire to burn this long. reporter: those with pg&e tell us their crews are working around-the-clock to get the power back on. they also say the cause of this fire is still under investigation.

reggie: we are expecting to get answers about what led to the collapse of santa clara-based silicon valley bank and a signature bank. the fed and fdic are both set to release reports on the failures. jobina: the reports are expected to reveal how regulators may have missed warning signs or whether or not they could have been addressed before the failures, and how to prevent this type of failure in the future. regulators have said they were worried before the crisis unfolded in march. they said the fbi see warned late last year large portions of regional bank deposit ounces were uninsured. showing there could have been impacts on other banks. the report is expected today are also supposed to address whether regional banks should once against -- should once again

undergo stress tests. that rule was removed under the trump administration. >> we need better laws here in congress. >> there was a clear supervisory failure. our regulators were simply asleep at the wheel. jobina: this morning there are concerns about another bank, first republic bank, based here in san francisco. shares of first republic dropped nearly 50% earlier this week after a rumor emerged that the bank was looking for a deal to sell its assets. kumasi: thank you. abc 7 is looking into the state of real estate in downtown san francisco and the financial blow it could have on the city. 30% of all downtown office space is vacant. that includes 350 california street, a 22 story tower that once was some of the most valuable commercial real estate in the country. according to the wall street journal the building was around $300 million in 2019, and now it is up for sale.

the bids are expected to come in at just around $60 million. that sale could set the rate for other commercial real estate in that area. >> there are two -- two geese that have laid the golden gates for the san francisco area. one was tourism, which is rebounding, and the other is the downtown office economy. that one is in trouble and it's going to come with profound financial impacts to government's tax base. kumasi: this years city budget is expected to be slashed by a quarter of a billion dollars, and next year by another half billion. despite the told i could take on city services, peskin says he hopes the neighborhood will turn around. he is backing legislation to convert vacant office space into housing. reggie: many tech workers will be looking for new jobs this morning. another round of layoffs, this time at lyft. the company is slashing 1000 jobs. that is more than one quarter of

the workforce. enough employees will get at least 10 weeks pay. lyft issued a statement saying it is restructuring to meet the needs of riders and drivers. another san francisco company, dropbox, announced it is laying off 500 employees. it is about 16% of the company's workforce. the ceo cited artificial intelligence has one reason, saying, "our next growth requires a different mix of skill sets." workers will get 16 weeks of pay and are allowed to keep their company devices. we are keeping track of all of these tech layoffs on our website, and you can too by going to our layoff tracker at abc7news.com. kumasi: tonight a large portion of yosemite valley is going to be closed due to the threat of flooding. closure starts at 10:00 p.m. and will go until wednesday. if you have a reservation it is going to be automatically canceled. your money will be refunded. the merced river is expected to

hit flood stage soon because of all of the melting snow we have seen in the mountains. summer is just around the corner, and one local pool is getting ready. the warm temperatures yesterday brought so many swimmers out to clark pool. last year they were short lifeguards. this year the aquatics coordinator says hiring is better, and they are hoping to hire even more people before summer. >> june 5 we hit the ground running, and it is a reminder we have some work to do, some lifeguard classes to run, and then we will be ready to do this for three or four months or so. kumasi: we also find a group enjoying their weekly softball game at heather form part. they said their season usually starts with march, with that heavy rain they just started a few weeks ago. reggie: in san rafael the police department is reminding people, do not do this. leave your dogs in hot cars. police saw two dogs and a car yesterday with the run -- with the windows rolled up.

issue since taking office in january. he says he is proud of what has been done, has plans to expand what he called cost-effective solutions. that includes -- that includes on house employment and programs and quick-build interim housing communities. others argue on house residents don't fully adjust his approach. may or may hand says there has been some failures, but he doesn't want the perfect to be the enemy of the good. >> certainly need more affordable housing. we know it is very expensive to build, it is very slow to build. while we are investing in affordable housing and making steady progress, we need to address the crisis on our streets today. kumasi: those plans include finalizing a location for 200 tiny homes from the state government, and opening a new safe parking lot in south san jose. that happens next month. reggie: in the east bay a transitional housing hotel has been unveiled.

abc 7 news was in antioch, where mayor lamar thorpe introduced the city-funded transitional housing. the old executive in hotel is now known as opportunity village. it can house more than 100 residents and will cost the city $2 million a year. >> 97% of people that get permanent housing situation coming out of homelessness stay there. if they have the wraparound services and support they need. let's start getting people off the street and saving lives. reggie: mental health and substance abuse programs will be available to new opportunity village residents, with the goal of helping them move into permanent housing. kumasi: this week and a big event is coming back to half moon bay for the pandemic. the dream machine is expected to draw about 10,000 people passionate about cars and aircraft. gloria rodriguez is joining us with what you can expect.

kumasi: welcome back. a's fans are planning to protest before tonight's game against the cincinnati reds at the oakland coliseum. fan groups oakland forever and unrooted will be meeting on the pedestrian bridge at 5:00 p.m. this is the first home game since the a's announced their agreement to build -- or at least their intention to build a ballpark in las vegas.
