>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7news. ama: person shot good evening. ama: a vigil took place tonight outside the walgreens where the 24-year-old victim was shot. reporter: the security guard is under arrest and accused of murder. lena howland's hearing how the victim was involved in the community. reporter: flowers, and balloons sit outside of walgreens on market and 4th street, friends mourn the person they knew as benko brown who was shot inside the store thursday. >> he was loved by many people. reporter: julio is the coexecutive director of the

young women's freedom center. a leadership and advocacy organization that works with people that have navigated violence and poverty. arroyo saidroad been involved with the organization since they were just 12 years old. was currently serving as a community organizing intern. >> he did action research. he collected data and surveys, assessing the needs of folks during the pandemic. he reached my heart. he was so funny and incredibly shy. he was bold. he was bold and he knew what he was trying to work for. reporter: arroyo says brown was dealing with their own struggles. she says brown had been couch surfing while waiting on permanent housing. >> one of my last conversations with him was that he was in search of what was. reporter: this is spec to shooter -- suspected shooter was a private in-store security guard. he has been booked on homicide charges.

details about what happened inside the store are still unclear. >>caut the tuifter.yar gunsn b'us who walgreens says this was avoidable. >> i feel like guns shouldn't be allowed. security wise, if you aren't police, you shouldn't have a gun. stuff like this happens off of level -- little stuff. no one's life is worth stuff being stolen from the store. ama: san francisco's board of supervisors's demanding answers from pg&e after hundreds of residents are still without power. homes and businesses have been in the dark since wednesday night. video shows an underground vault on fire and flames spewing out of three manholes on clay street. fire crews were on the scene within minutes but city officials say it took pg&e 45 minutes to arrive on scene.

one supervisor says he will ask for a hearing to be conducted next month. >> they have the co2 equipment towa twhy t rns long, what meass they are putting in place to have more expeditious response times. ama: officials say the incident is still under investigation. utility crews have been working around the clock making repairs and expect power to be restored saturday. dan: the warriors could have used a jolts tonight. they got hammered by the kings. ama: instead of closing out the series, they face illumination with game seven on the road. dan: we begin our coverage with abc 7 sports reporter chris alvarez. reporter: after the home team won the first four games of the series, it's the road team coming ahead in games five and six. now we have an all decisive game seven sunday in sacramento after the kings beat the warriors at chase center. the warriors trailed by seven at the half but turnovers and general sloppy play cost them.

the kings were finally able to hit from deep. sacramento going 17 of 45 from beyond the arc. kings beat the warriors. the series is even at 3-3. >> this is the worst loss of the season. but i mean, there's no time to hang our heads. >> i thought we played hard. we didn't play smart or execute our game plan. we know what we need to do to win. all the small things. getting back to transition. box out. turnovers. things like that. we need to execute. >> knowing that they would play with desperation. we just had a lot of mental errors. they took advantage of it and grabbed them early. i don't know if that was an energy thing or a focus thing. reporter: the scene shifts back to sacramento for game seven. you will see it right here on abc 7.

the winner moving on to the second round. chris alvarez, abc 7 sports. ama: thrive city was packed with fans hoping to see the team advanced to the second round. things didn't go as planned. dan: now it's onto to sunday and a doer dry -- do or die game seven. tim johns spent the night with the thousands who watched outside the arena. >> i'm ecstatic after last game. we knew that we were going to win the series. reporter: soon came to a crashing halt friday at chase center. thousands of fans came out with the hopes of watching the warriors clinch the first series of their nba playoffs run. with the game not going the warriors way, fans were disappointed. >> it was embarrassing. pathetic effort. those guys got bored. worst game ever. reporter: what went wrong? >> is the most pathetic game i've reporter: went to. reporter:many felt the team was

sluggish and never got a good momentum going. >> they need to stop committing so matter -- so many files. better defense. reporter: they didn't play as good as they normally do. the kings were the better basketball team this game. >> the kings have actually always been a very challenging match up us. we have the i tim johns, abc 7. dan: winner takes all game seven is going to be right here on abc 7 on sunday at 12:30 p.m.. it will be followed by after the game. ama: across the bay, a's fans held a protest outside the coliseum before the game against the cincinnati reds. it was the first home game since we learned the team had moved forward with purchasing land for a new ballpark in las vegas. that deal still has hurdles to

cooler and breezier weekend. below average temperatures next week with may showers and the possibility of thunder. i will be back with an hour-by-hour we can forecast, coming right up. dan: the federal reserve says it failed to anticipate and prevent the second largest bank failure in u.s. history. the fed's internal review found they didn't fully appreciate the risks from silicon valley bank's rapid growth and did not take sufficient steps to ensure the bank would fix its problems. the feds took control of santa clara based bank last month and guaranteed all the deposits at the bank, insured or not. the banks collapse sparked a panic that led to the failure of new york-based signature bank just two days later. the fbi see is getting ready to play san francisco-based first republic bank under receivership immediately. that's according to reuters. the wall street journal is reporting the bank cannot only be seized but sold over the weekend. first republic bank shares plummeted by 43% today with many

or live chat at calhope.org today. ama: a candlelight vigil for a home depot security guard shot and killed at the pleasanton store while trying to stop a shoplifter. lauren martinez was there for the moving tribute. >> on my honor, i will do my best to do my duty by my country until the day i'm gone. reporter: the boy scouts of america hosted a vigil for blake moz in pleasanton. he was remembered for being a local volunteer camp counselor, eagle scout, and volunteer cadet with the newark police department. last week, he wished shot and killed during an alleged attempted shoplifting while working as a security guard for home depot. some of his colleagues shared a few words. >> he always wanted to give somebody a chance.

he would come up to me and there would be somebody doing something they shouldn't be doing. he was like you want to give them a chance. reporter: the scouts wanted to take this moment to heal together. friday evening's gathering included his parents and his brother matthew. some people didn't know him personally but wanted to express their condolences. >> he gave his life to o community. reporter: other speakers shared his passion for scouting. >> his presence was the best thing in my heart. getting the news didn't feel real. he is so missed by his family. i'm out of words. >> he was more than a scout. he was more than a coworker. he was a friend. and a fa and we all miss him terribly. reporter: during sunset, candles

were lit and a moment of silence was held. >> i want them to know that he was this amazing human. he still has that smile. come on, push through it, you can do it. upbeat positivity. that's who he was. reporter: lauren martinez, abc 7 news. dan: starting next month, the chp will deploy officers in areas of san francisco including the tenderloin. it's part of governor newsom's plan to tackle the fentanyl crisis and crackdown on drug dealers. national guard members will work together to gather information on drug trafficking and cartels. it's unclear how many officers will actually take part in this effort. congresswoman nancy pelosi is asking attorney general merrick garland to put san francisco on the list for operation overdrive . that's the federal effort to combat drug cartels and target hotspots for overdoses and violence. in her request, pelosi wrote,

time is of the essence. people are dying from sentinel and violence. ama: oakland unified students can expect to come in as usual on monday while teachers union negotiations continue. the school district and teachers union will continue bargaining efforts over the weekend. district officials say classes will be held as usual monday. the union has made it clear that it will strike if an agreement is not met with weeks left of the school year. union representatives have presented 21 proposals which include teacher pay raises. the union's interim president says the priority is also student services. >> our focus right now is ensuring that are most vulnerable students get the resources that they need. ama: the school district has been bargaining since last october. the district says is trying to balance funding for all the union's requests. oakland teachers, parents, and students rallied outside of a middle school today, upset over what they say are poor and

dangerous conditions at the school. the teachers union says the school has a severe rodent infestation and multiple sewage leaks. one union member says the school's current conditions have major impacts. >> that's a basic human right, that students and young people are not able to use the restroom all day long. they avoid it. that's a huge disservice to our young people. ama: we've reached out to the school district for comment but have not heard back. ama: dan: activists trying to protect elk at the national seashore are appealing a court decision to dismiss their lawsuit. the lawsuit accuses the national park service of being negligent in a die off that's all the elk population drop substantially. a judge dismissed the lawsuit in february of this year, saying the activist did not have a legal basis to get involved with the park services wildlife management decisions. the park services not commenting on the latest legal action.

happening now. a massive snowmelt is underway in yosemite national park. a huge snowfall combined with rising temperatures is causing unprecedented flooding. the snow is melting so fast. the merced river is near flood stage. as a precaution, officials are closing yosemite valley to visitors starting tonight. that will continue until wednesday. reservations for this weekend are being canceled and refunds are being issued. ama: it's a concern with how warm it's been lately. larry: we wanted all this rain and snow about got it. it is starting to melt in a dangerous way. sandhya: absolutely. that's why the flood watches are still going through early next week. all the way across the sierra headed into nevada. the concern is that healthy snowpack melting way too fast. they are expecting 70's and 80's at yosemite this weekend. way too warm. next week, things will change.
