signs there are, and to act fast so that if you recognize facial drooping, arm weakness or leg weakness, for that matter, speech, problems with speech, then it's time. it's time right away to call 911 and get treatment immediately. speed is really of the essence when you're dealing with someone having a stroke. i have an auction that has just gone live, that i'm doing to helpfully raise some funding for research for the american stroke association. also to shine a light on what that research, i hope, having just gone through this and witnessed this with my husband, that hopefully some of the things could help, that the research will discover. >> how are you feeling? i know you dealt with some heart issues? >> thank you. i'm feeling fine. i feel fine. one thing i will say is that i

learned through my situation and now my husband's, is the heart/brain connection. if you have high blood pressure, you are more likely to have a stroke. if you have a diagnosis of a fib, which is what my husband had. he never had symptoms. he was going to go to preop to go in for a shoulder injury. he wasn't supposed to keep on skiing because he had an injury, but he did. they couldn't do the surgery because they discovered he had a fib. no symptoms. never affected our lives. that's the good news. the bad news is that if you have a fib, you are five times re likely to have a stroke. five times. and if you have the stroke, you're twice as likely to pass away from it. these are things we are trying to avoid. the quickness, the speediness of the treatment is imperative. so my hope in raising something for research is that we got to the hospital, they told me, in record time. that's fabulous. i'm wondering, as the advocate.
8:34 am
i know so many people are advocates for the people that they love. could they do even faster? could something be done by the emt's in the ambulance? part of me wonders, could there be something like an epi pen, like they give epi pens, even children carry them to school if they have an allergy. this would be to reverse the effect of the stroke or slow them down or to stop the effects of the blood thinners that often you are given if you have a heart issue to prevent clotting to the brain. that's a double edged sword. the blood thinners can also hurry the bleeding into the brain. >> you did a psa for stroke awareness. you talked about earlier you do have the auction where you are raising money. you donated some of your cherished items. how do you figure out what to donate to the auction?
