a shot away. reporter: yeah. it was a really good game. entertaining. just like the last series against sacramento, the warriors started out with a loss in game one. how it went from chase center. lebron and steph curry sharing a moment there. warriors ended the night with anthony davis leading the lakers. he's a problem. l.a. pushed them. steph curry scored a team-high 27. that tied the game. those will be the final points the warriors scored. jordan poole missed that d3 with a chance to tie a tough shot there. >> the game. you can go through tape and you can talk about strategy but you have to feel the game and the personnel. i thought 80 had a great game.

ama: we are giving you all the warriors content you can feast on with our abc7news bay area and instagram facebook pages. you can post or share any event to your profile to show off that pride. dan: let's get into tonight's abc 7 deep dive at 11:00. there's one local issue dominating the headlines tonight that we feel deserves a much closer look. we are keying in on the state of san francisco. a constant source of discussion and debates. another stunning blow to the city's downtown core. a name brand when you think shopping in san francisco but nordstrom is closing both of its stores in the city citing difficult conditions. the westfield mall location will close in august. it's been the anchor store in the mall for more than 35 years. the nordstrom rack on market in fifth will close in july. we put together this map to give

you a better idea of the other recent reporters in terms of stores. the question that matters here, why and what if anything can be fixed? some including officials from the westfield mall are squarely blaming crime and safety as the reason for the closure. the whole foods that announced a temporary closure on market market street last month also cited worker safety. tonight, the national retail federation is telling us nordstrom's strategy follows recent customer trends with such high inflation. less of a high-end store and more budget friendly options. >> they will start trading down. if eggs cost too much, they will buy something different. dan: nordstrom's is closing the two downtown stores. it's opening 20 new nordstrom rack discount stores including one in pinole. that is something to keep in mind. no matter how you look at it, this is a serious loss for residents, employees, and other

small businesses. i want to bring in tim johns who is looking closely into what this loss what's -- will actually mean. reporter: no matter what the reason for the closure, it got a lot of people talking today. not just about nordstrom itself but also about downtown san francisco as a whole and our local bay area economy. another day, another store closure in downtown san francisco. this time, nordstrom announcing tuesday that it will close two of its locations. the news fueling the debate over the state of the city center and its impact on our local economy. >> san francisco's downtown was living off tech, office, tourism, and retail. reporter: those days seem to be over for now. by several metrics, san francisco has been one of the slowest cities to recover from the pandemic. >> the offices are empty and the retail is getting empty. it won't be easy to get somebody to come in and take the space. reporter: many in the business

community are urging city leaders to tackle issues like crime and homelessness head-on. >> we need to invest to make downtown safe, clean, welcoming to all people. we need to do that now. reporter: they say the city needs a thriving irving core. it's not just big brand stores that are hurting. some local businesses like old hardware nears a nordstrom location say they've also been impacted. >> the downtown store on 4th street lost about 60% of its business. reporter: it's not all bad news. ikea recently announced they are opening a brand-new store not far away from the downtown nordstrom. given the amount of wealth and innovation happening around the bay area, several business leaders say despite the tough times now, they are confident san francisco will bounce back. >> so much going for us. the natural beauty. incredible talent in the workforce here. it's truly an incredible place

to live and work. reporter: it is worth noting that ikea is just one of several companies that's expanding or looking to expand here in san francisco and the bay area. i've been speaking with several ceos who say they believe in the city and that this rough pass -- patch is just a transition. abc7news. dan: thank you so much. if you want to dive deeper into the story, had to abc7news.com. we've interact -- included map of store closures along with the full statements from westfield and nordstrom. ama: new development in the deadly shooting by a security guard at the san francisco walgreens area -- walgreens. aaron peskin is planning to ask district attorney brooke jenkins to reconsider the case. according to the chronicle, he said that he was deeply concerned about jenkins decision not to file charges. the concerns are based on conversations he's had with law enforcement.

jenkins is not pursuing murder charges against the guard, believing he acted in self-defense. the investigation is still open. developing news outside of sacramento. classrooms at uc davis went dark. police are searching for suspects after three stabbings in the past five days. two victims have died. the third is in critical condition. police said they are investigating if the stabbings are connected, saying the suspect description is similar across the three cases. the university is tripling the number of officers patrolling campus. >> we've also brought on board some other officers from the university of san francisco and uc berkeley. they are here on campus, helping us patrol. not just our campus but the immediate surrounding areas of davis. ama: all uc davis class 6:00 were held virtually. students were offered security exports to and from campus and a

notice has been sent out to all parents. >> it feels like a movie or something. i know everyone in our community is just really scared. ama: the davis area newspaper reports many businesses closed early tonight or canceled evening events. dan: using tech to take down mosquitoes. that's the new plan announced in santa clara county today. it comes as experts predict a potentially bad mosquito season after all the rain we had. lauren martinez has the story. reporter: for drone technology is taking off to combat mosquitoes in santa clara county. after an unprecedented rainy winter, more mosquitoes are expected this year than the prime season for the in sacks. >> as you see, a lot of standing water around. we want to make sure that we are able to control in stages. reporter: mosquitoes lay their

eggs in standing water which hatch larva. they will use the nonresidential areas. experts say once mosquitoes are adults, they are difficult to control. >> this material is so friendly. animals. reporter: they can access remote areas. they are faster, accurate, and have less of an impact on habitat. >> this drone is capable of handling a max payload of 40 pounds. reporter: one of the diseases as west nile virus. the county says they are being proactive but they need everybody's help. they are encouraging residents to get rid of any kind of standing water where mosquitoes can reproduce. we spoke with san jose resident dailies auto who said her family is installing new screen doors. >> the ones we had were open and shut. we are doing the magnetic ones.

arrested a man accused of killing five people in a texas home friday night. he allegedly gunned down his neighbors after they asked him to stop shooting his gun for fun in his yard because of the noise. a multi agency start had been going on since. authorities found him about 20 miles from the shooting site, hiding in a closet. the fbi says the tip for the suspects location came in through the agency's direct hotline. dan: new details about senator dianne feinstein's month-long absence from congress. senate majority schumer is holding a prepared note which state that he's hopeful feinstein could return to washington as early as next week. the two senators spoke over the weekend. feinstein has been out of office since being diagnosed with shingles in february. in a statement tonight, feinstein's team says they don't

have a timeline for her return as they await medical clearance for her to travel. ama: mis up and keeping tabs on every issue in our community. two local neighborhoods are struggling over the issue of homelessness. and supervise -- a supervisor has introduced a resolution to save a housing site. site f has been run by the city since the pandemic but it's slated for closure since the public health emergency was lifted. it's home to primarily black residents who live in 114 rvs. walton is concerned the residents will become homeless or take up space in shelters when the lot has already served well enough. dan: coronation countdown. we are four days from the formal crowning of king charles of england. super fans are claiming their spot outside buckingham palace to catch a glimpse of king charles on his coronation day. donna warner made the trip

the rain is falling. it's heavy in spots. in the sierra, we are getting some snow. live doppler 7. heavy rain falling right now in the east bay. street-level radar. alameda heading into skyline boulevard, some heavy rain also around the peninsula from san bruno to burlingham. if you get caught under one of these, it will be hard to get around. be careful if you are driving. happening. the intensity has picked up. low-pressure is just to the southwest of the bay area. it's providing the lift along the mountains to provide the heavy rainfall. about an inch in ben lomond. that was one of our highest totals. everybody else in between will be adding to those totals with the rain coming through now. 40's and 50's on your
