extra minutes to the commute because we know a little bit of rain can really slow things down around here. on the impact scale, level 1 today with scattered showers. the coast will see the highest rainfall and the biggest issue is the slick roadways. as we go hour-by-hour, we still have showers with us. this evening, more wet weather will move in as we track the light rain for the evening commute. we will take a closer look at these showers coming up in a few minutes. let's see what traffic is like this morning. jobina: i want to bring your bike to this live picture outside of the bay toll plaza. it is really dark as you move through the area. the lights are out here and also on the western span of the bridge. in addition to the wet, slick ride you are going to face, it is very dark. you can almost see it, that whole middle section where there are no lights on the bridge right now. just a heads up, that will make

close in august. it has been the anchor store of the mall for more than 35 years. we put together this map to give you a better idea of all the other recent store departures. these are just in the past few months. some people including officials at westfield mall are blaming crime and safety as the reason for the closure and it comes after safety concerns because to whole foods say they were going to temporarily close their market street location last month. of course that is not the whole story. the national retail federation tells abc . more budget-friendly options. amanda is joining us live with more on the latest closure in san francisco. amanda: announcement certainly fueling the debate over the state of the city center and its impact on our economy. and whether you frequented the flagship store nordstrom has

been in that mall --and opened back in 2014. where nord stream is located, they pointed in part to crime and to fix the problem, many of the business community are urging city leaders tokl crime and homelessness head-on, saying it would benefit from a thriving urban core to support social services. some local businesses like coals hardware say they've been impacted, proving it is not just big name stores that are struggling, saying the downtown store on 4th street lost about 60% of its business, but owners are optimistic things will change. by several metrics, the city has been one of the slowest to recover from the pandemic. >> offices are empty and now the retail is getting empty. and it's not going to be easy to get somebody to take the space. >> we need to aggressively invest to make downtown safe,

clean, welcoming to all people. we need to do that now. federation says many retailers are actually shifting to more affordable, budget-friendly options following consumer trends. and though the san francisco stores are closing, nordstrom's opening 20 new rack stores which is their discounted brand this year alone. that includes a location in pinole and ikea plans to open a 70,000 square-foot location just down the street from where the nordstrom is closing. that should open in the near future. there is so much to tackle of this front. we will be right back in 30 minutes with more on the story. kumasi: thank you, amanda. a new development in the death of a man at a san francisco walgreens. the supervisor says he plans to formally ask brooke jenkins to

reconsider charges against the security guard accused in the shooting. according to "the chronicle," at yesterday's meeting, he said he was deeply concerned about jenkins' decision not to file charges. he said the concerns are based on conversations he had with law enforcement. jenkins said she is not pursuing murder charges, believing the guard acted in self-defense. the investigation is still open. developing news in davis, where students are on edge after a series of stabbings that left two people dead and another in critical condition. police say they are still trying to figure out if the stabbings are connected but say the description of the suspect is very similar across all three cases. the search for the suspect continued this morning and the university is tripling the number of officers patrolling the campus. last night, all classes past sick :00 p.m. world virtually. there are escorts to and from campus and you are urged not to walk alone.

reggie: the development in the search for a man wanted for killing five members of one family last week. he has been caught after a four day search. it was a tip to the fbi that led to his arrest. jobina: and he was found just a few miles from where the shooting happened. the man was hiding in a pile of laundry inside a home. this all started when neighbors complained about the noise from the suspect shooting off an ar-15 style rifle outside of his home. investigators say the suspect used the weapon to kill the family, including a nine-year-old boy. then, he went on the run. >> we can rest easy now because he is behind bars, and he will live out his life behind bars for killing those five. jobina: there's a memorial at the elementary school. classmates of the youngest victim honored his memory. the suspected shooter faces five

murder counts and a $5 million bond. authorities say the fbi tipster will receive the reward money, a total of $100,000. kumasi: now to the wet weather moving to the state right now. as the rain fell overnight, so did the snow, adding onto the albany high levels of powder. people who lived there say they have mixed emotions about the snow. >> this year's mixed reviews. it has been a lot of so much snow that you're tired of it, but also there is so much good powder to ride it is such a good time. >> this is my first season in deep snow, this is crazy. kumasi: in el dorado county, eight rafting company with an epic white water rafting season. more rain and snow is expected in caltrans is reminding drivers to check possible chain requirements before you head out into the sierra. drew: our late season storm will

davis are now being held virtually as the search continues for whoever is responsible. the university is increasing the number of officers patrolling campus and the fbi is now helping police determined if the stabbings are linked. quick action by uc davis officials after two people has been killed near campus including one student. a third person is in critical condition. 50-year-old david was found dead with stab wounds last thursday morning in central park. there's a memorial where a 20-year-old student was fatally stabbed in sycamore park saturday night. monday night, another victim. police described her as a woman in her 60's. she was brutally stabbed by the tent she was living in it which prompted a shelter-in-place alert. the davis police chief says they cannot definitively say that all three stabbings are connected, the police say the suspect description is very similar across the three cases.
