also this morning all eyes are on the fed, expected to hike interest rates again. this comes on the heels of the collapse of first republic bank earlier this week. rebecca jarvis has what it means for your money, credit cardses and employment. first the man accused of killing five neighbors in texas including a mother and her child captured after nearly a week long manhunt. >> we're learning how police tracked him down, finding him hiding in a closet under a pile of laundry. matt rivers joins us with the latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the 38-year-old suspect being taken into custody overnight without incident. at a press conference here that just finished, deputies say other people closely connected to the suspect have also been arrested for helping him evade e rest. overnight the arrest an entire neighborhood was waiting for. the killer, slumped, shirtless, cuffed, now facing five counts

of murder. >> he now will be taken to my jail where his new residence will be. >> reporter: authorities laying out details. oropesa's time on the run ending with an anonymous call tuesday. >> the tip for the suspect location came in through the fbi tip line. >> reporter: about an hour after that call came in, officers descending on this home, just 11 miles from the original crime scene. a source close to the investigation telling abc station ktrk, the home belonging to an oropesa family member. border patrol, u.s. marshalls and state troopers went inside. >> he was caught hiding in a closet underneath some laundry. >> reporter: it marked the end of an urgent man hunt that began friday when sheriffs say oropesa argued with neighbors. he was outside shooting his ar-15 for fun. they asked him to stop. shortly after, that's when police say he entered their home and gunned down five people inside.

he then disappeared, where abouts unknown for days. an entire area on edge. authorities now hoping his arrest brings relief. >> what's your message to the family members? >> they can rest easy now because he is behind bars. >> reporter: that suspect currently being held in the jail behind me on a $5 million bond. george? >> okay, matt. thank you very much. to the white house now. president biden sending 1,500 active duty troops to the southern border as a pandemic era policy restricting immigration comes to an end. chief white house correspondent mary bruce is in washington with details. there's also a new deal with mexico announced overnight. >> reporter: george, good morning. the white house is bracing for a sharp spike in migration to the u.s./mexican border and bracing for the political fire storm that's likely to come with it. they are trying to show they are getting ahead of this sending 1,500 troops to the southern border. officials stress they will not be performing law enforcement functions. they are there to assist and

perform what's being called administrative duties. this is just one of several steps the white house is announcing as they prepare for the end of title 42 next week. that's a public health policy that was used to quickly expel migrants during the pandemic. overnight the administration announcing this deal for mexico to continue accepting migrants from venezuela, haiti, cuba and nicaragua who are expelled from the border. now the president and the white house know this surge is coming. they know that they are likely going to face political attacks over this. bottom line is they are trying to show they are taking this seriously. >> mary bruce. thanks. also breaking news from overseas. a teen boy opened fire in a school in serbia killing eight children and a school guard. >> reporter: eight school children are dead, the 14-year-old student opening fire at a middle school in central belgrade. a security guard was all killed and several students injured. the suspect alleged to have used

his father's gun. he was led away by police to protect his identity. he is a teenager. parents rushed to the school when word of the shooting spread. the children were locked in the classroom with their teachers for safety and were let out one by one. mass shootings in serbia are rare but gun ownership is among the highest in europe. at this stage though, we just don't know the motive behind this horrific attack. michael? >> our hearts go out to those families there. thank you so much, britt. we're going to turn to the security scare at buckingham palace days before the coronation of king charles. police arrested a man who threw suspected ammunition cartridges onto palace grounds. james longman is there. good morning, james. >> reporter: in an incident right here outside buckingham palace last night a man was arrested after acting suspiciously and a bag he was carrying was blown up in a controlled explosion by police. much of this caught on live tv.

this morning heightened security around buckingham palace after a frightening situation there just days before king charles coronation. metropolitan police say the man was arrested tuesday after he approached the gate and threw items expected to be shot gun cart ridges onto palace grounds. he was detained after police discovered he was holding a knife. there were no shots fired and no reported injuries. the king nor queen was there when this happened. the man was all carrying a suspicious bag and they performed a controlled explosion as a precaution. >> what was that? what was that? >> reporter: that blast was heard on live television during this moment on a tv news broadcast. >> i'm very sorry to say but it is -- good evening for the time being as i think that was probably controlled explosion in the background. that's what it sounded like to me. we will find out later. >> reporter: britain reportedly bringing thousands of officers

from across the u.k. to protect against potential threats. police placed all along the procession route and snipers on the buildings. none of this affected overnight rehearsals for the coronation procession. thousands of military personnel have been practicing around the clock ahead of the big day. george? >> james, thank you very much. we have the latest on tucker carlson's firing from fox news. a new text message was seen by fox's board. senior investigative correspondent aaron katersky has the story. good morning, aaron. >> reporter: george, good morning. the text message obtained by the new york times is racially charged and it does appear to have set in motion both his firing from fox news and the network's decision to settle with dominion voting systems. overnight the new york times published a text message from tucker carlson to one of his producers sent t dthe capito which a group of trump

supporters attacked someone he called an antifah kid. it was three against one at least, jumping a guy like that is dishonorable, obviously, it's not how white men fight. the message continues. i found myself rooting for the mob against the man, hoping they'd hit him harder, kill him. carlson wrote, i could taste it. then the message said, an alarm went off. i'm becoming something i don't want to be. the message surfaced as part of dominion's defamation lawsuit against fox news, a redacted version appears in public court filings. but the times reports members of fox's board of directors became aware of the unredacted version on the eve of trial and were so alarmed by carlson's views on violence and racial superiority, they took steps to investigate carlson and settled the case for nearly $800 million. six days later fox news fired its highest rated host. fox news did not respond to our request for comment this morning.

tucker carlson has not commented on this text message. but the decision by fox news to settle with dominion kept him off the witness stand where, george, he could have been confronted with the text message and its inflammatory sentiments about violence and race. george. >> there are more fox trials to come. thanks very much. to the expected interest rate hike. our chief business correspondent rebecca jarvis is on wall street with what it means for your money. good morning, rebecca. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the fed has a tricky task today. balancing all of the volatility that we've seen inside of the banks. the fact that three major banks have fallen and collapsed in the last two months, including first republic, which fell earlier this week with the fact that inflation is still high and you're seeing it in areas like grocery, up 8.4% from a year ago. lot of those morning staples from milk to coffee to cereal are up, many by double digits.

that adds up for the typical american family, robin, now paying about $313 more every month than they did a year ago. they have to balance trying to bring those prices down with trying not to destablize the full system, robin. >> it really does add up. how does employment fit into all of this? >> reporter: well, employment is obviously one of the most important things. if you have a job, you are hoping that your wages are going up enough to cover those price increases. ultimately, we are seeing a jobs picture that continues to remain strong. later this week we'll get the jobs report. we're expecting to learn 180,000 jobs were added last month. that's still a strong number, but it's the lowest in awhile. we're also starting to see job openings which have been so high for such a long time decrease. the fed again doesn't want to destablize that jobs market so much that we're in a recession, but they also realize they have to bring down some of this

good morning, eva. >> reporter: alex murdaugh has admitted to telling lie after lie. now a new unexpected twist, murdaugh adding a new lie to his list. this one what happened leading up to his housekeeper's death. this morning a new twist involving convicted murderer alex murdaugh, disgraced south carolina attorney who is serving life in prison for the murders of his wife maggie and son paul now claiming he lied about the 2018 death of his housekeeper gloria saterfield. >> do you remember looking tony saterfield in the eye and lying to him? >> i remember lying to tony saterfield and looking him in the eye on many occasions. >> and lying to him? >> yeah. >> lying to his family? >> i lied to his family. >> reporter: this is not the first time murdaugh has changed his story. during that trial he was pressed on the stand over his history of lying. >> you lied to maggie, didn't you? >> i did lie to maggie.

>> you lied to paul? >> you lied to your father? >> i'm sure i did at some point. >> reporter: murdaugh previously telling first responders saterfield died at his home in a trip and fall accident involving his dog. but now in a new legal filing, murdaugh caming he invented that story. the documents stating no dogs were involved. after ms. saterfield's death, defendant invented the statement that dogs caused her to fall to force insure rs to make a force ensurers to make a settlement payment. saterfield's son said to sue them for insurance money but didn't tell them when the case was settedled. murdaugh instead pocketing the money himself. >> did the defendant ever tell you he has also a $5 million umbrella policy? >> no. >> did he ever tell you it had been recovery against $3.8 million against that? >> no. >> did he ever pay you one penny of $3.8 million?

>> no. >> reporter: murdaugh admitted to taking millions of dollars of the saterfield's settlement. now the insurance company suing murdaugh, trying to recover the money he took. but murdaugh's legal team claiming because murdaugh lied about how saterfield's die, the lawsuit is illegitimate. saterfield's's son did receive a settlement. murdaugh is still facing charges on 90 plus financial crimes, accused of stealing money from client, friend, even his family's law firm. >> endless story. thank you, eva. going to turn to the california college campus on edge this morning following three stabbings that left two people dead including a student. police say the attacks could be linked. will carr is in davis, california, with the latest on a search for the suspect. good morning, will. >> reporter: good morning, michael. since thursday, there has been a stabbing every other night. one uc davis student had just

won an award at a ceremony and was walking home when he was stabbed and killed. this morning police are trying to figure out who is responsible for this stabbing spree and why. this morning an urgent manhunt is under way after three people were stabbed in a northern california college town leaving two dead and one in the icu. >> this is different. the attacks were particularly violent and brazen. >> reporter: the three separate stabbings all occurring at night in davis, just west of sacramento. >> we're getting information of somebody possibly stabbed. >> reporter: the latest attack happening monday night, a woman calling 911 telling authorities she had been stabbed multiple times. she was hospitalized in critical condition. the fbi now assisting police, trying to determine if the crimes are linked. suspect in each described as a college age man with curly hair. 20-year-old uc davis student kareem abunajim attacked in sycamore park saturday night.

killing five neighbors in texas, including a mother and her child, he has been captured by police. matt rivers joins us with the latest. matt, there's been some other arrests in connection with the case, too? >> reporter: yeah, that's right. police just holding a press conference here at the sheriff's office, where they said there have been several more arrests made in connection to this case, people who are close to this suspect, who were helping him evade arrest. that's the information we have now. very much an on going situation. this is the first time that this texas community waking up in five days without a suspected mass murderer on the run. the suspect being taken into custody overnight without incident, without violence. we have some video to show you of that suspect just after he was arrested. you can see him slouched shirtless and handcuffed in the front seat of a police vehicle. authorities say it was an anonymous tip that led them to the house where they made that arrest. they got the call around 5:15 p.m. local time and managed to arrest him just over an hour

saying, go look at her, i don't think so, much the way he denied assaulting carroll by saying she's not my type. george? >> aaron, thanks. michael? now preliminary data about a alzheimer's drug we're learning about its effect and side effects. dr. ashton is here. doctor, talk about these preliminary results. >> this is called the trailblazer trial. let's get right to the numbers, again, what the preliminary data showed in their phase 3 clinical trials is that it slowed cognitive decline by 35% in people with early stage dementia. they did see some serious side effects in particular one out of three people enrolled had microscopic brain hemorrhages. now, what we don't know. we don't know when this drug could be available. we don't know the cost or insurance coverage. the mechanism of action or the way this drug works is still not fully agreed upon as the main driving force in causing alzheimer's disease. but nevertheless, the alzheimer's association is

according to a story in "the wall street journal" you could have just six seconds, six seconds, to make an impression on future employers with your resume. rebecca jarvis is here to help us. i want to get right to it. we have a mockup resume we're going to show folks. to start, should job seekers include a bioparagraph at the top of the resume? >> so, robin, in the words of eminem, you get one shot, one opportunity. same thing is true with this resume. you've got six seconds to impress. one of the most important things you can do when you look at this mockup resume, you no longer need that explanation paragraph. you just want to turn that idea at the top of your resume into a quick statement about who you are. so in this case, the mockup resume says sales manager with decades of experience, eager for an opportunity. that's a lot of verbage to convey the idea you can convey in one single statement which is you are a senior software sales

farm practices. this farm needed tlc. hadn't had a hair cut in ten years. it was really in rough condition. they wanted to do regeneration farming. i really wanted to do that. so we partnered up. >> your son jack got to see the movie. little girls haven't seen it. when are they going to see your stuff? what do you want them to see? >> they're a little young now. eloise is 11 months and lila is 2 1/2. they're a little young to start watching that now. i'll probably start off with the real heavy stuff. hit him with some -- the critically acclaimed stuff. [ laughter ] i don't know. mario is pretty good for kids. i have done some animated movies, lego movie, on ward. i have been able to voice some things. i'll probably stt there. moving them -- that's the gateway. then eventually we'll get them into guardians and jurassic world.

♪ ♪ back now as we count down to the coronation. king charles has strong ties to scotland, and kilts are a favorite of britain's new monarch, who wore was last fall. lara is with us again from scotland with a kilt. hey, lara. >> yes, yes. unfortunately oreo has left. she's meeting with her agent. i'm back wearing a kilt. we're calling it a kilty pleasure. it's been a staple dating back to the 1500s. the art of kilt making is on the red list of endangered heritage craft. yesterday we met a young man who learned the incredible skill to revive this classic look and even make it a little rock 'n' roll.
