reporter: barbara the crowd at this teacher rally. behind the scene, confusion and frustration at the bargaining table. district says what is on the table is a historic $70 million offer, a retroactive 10% raise, a 5000 other one time bonus and a 13% raise for all teachers, up to 22% for some. >> we made recommendations make sure that districts can afford this compensation package to maintain financial stability in the years to come. reporter: says it is not an official proposal. >> it excludes members

not provide resources. reporter: the union says the proposal was not submitted wednesday night. the district argues it does not have to negotiate union demands. negotiated outside of that. reporter: the district defines them as greater societal issues like homelessness. the union does not see it that way. >> we are talking about special education services and mental health services and targeted resources in the lowest performing school. reporter: the two sides will continue to meet but until there is a deal, the strike will continue. dan: how are students and parents dealing with the strike?

ryan curry spoke with those showing solidarity with the teachers, though still sending their kids to school, and those who hope this is resolved soon. reporter: pens and pencils are out and worksheets are on tables. parents are doing what they can to keep children learning while parents are on strike -- while teachers are on strike. >> grade and spent the day at the church. this location is acting as a solidarity school where parents can bring children where the josh whyle the strike is ongoing. >> they say they will be rallying and making their voices heard and we want to respect that. we do not know if the schools will be staffed appropriately. reporter: these locations are options for parents but they wish it did not have to happen. >> we finally have

supportive school environment again and now we are striking and it is heartbreaking. reporter: parents are taking it day by day until a agreement is reached. they want everything to be resolved as soon as possible. >> they are not truly understanding this does not affect only children. >> this man does the strike because he thinks the 22% offered by the district should be accepted. >> do they think about the parents? no. they ask us to support them but what are we not supporting? a 1% raise? come on. reporter: they hope a deal is done this week. >> we are just waiting to see when everyone will go to the table with integrity and willingness to work it out.

ama: hopes there is a quick resolution to the strike. she talked about it earlier today. >> we are one oakland and is nothing more important than making sure our kids have great education. ama: she says her association authority over the district because it has its own governing arm. the mayor is helpful the two sides will come back to the bargaining table. dan: gray skies and parts of the bay area might not be done with rain yet. ama: we have a look at the forecast. sandhya: let's look the picture from the san jose camera. it is raining. you can see it coming down. light to moderate rain.

dan: a 21-year-old man is arrest for three stabbings in davis that put the community on edge. he used to live in oakland and was a student at uc davis. he is accused to stabbing two people to death and severely injuring a third. the police chief says a flood of tips led them to the suspect. >> yesterday afternoon we had 15 callers reported seeing who matched the description. he was stopped by several patrol officers. he was wearing a backpack and in the backpack was a large knife. dan: uc davis put out a statement says it separated the suspect last week due to academic reasons.
