moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7news. dan: the search is over for suspected serial stab or who sought out his victims on the campus of u.c. davis. we are tracing his path back home to oakland. arrested their man. dan: he stabbed three people in total, two of whom died. ama: tim johns is in the newsroom tonight hearing from those who knew him here in oakland. reporter: he is originally from the east bay. he attended castle mott high school and spent some time at laney college. i spoke with several people who knew him and they say they are shocked. relief after the arrest of a man investigators believe is behind three stabbings near the uc davis campus. >> i'm hoping that this is the person and davis can be done with this. reporter: carlos dominquez is

facing charges of two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide. police describe it as particularly violent and brazen. police detained dominguez wednesday night. >> he was wearing a backpack and in the backpack was a large knife that was consistent with one that we were looking for. reporter: he was a student at uc davis from 2020 until last week when the school says he was separated for academic reasons. before college, he lived in oakland. several people say they are shocked by news of his arrest. >> i didn't think he would do something like that. reporter: i talked with his old high school football coach on the phone who described dominguez as being a quiet and intelligent kid who never caused any problems. >> he wasn't an aggressive football player. he never had any anger or disciplinary issues. reporter: others didn't want to appear on camera but told similar stories. one saying that dominguez was

things are quiet right now. as we widen the picture, want to show you what it looks like. the circulation of the low-pressure system that has been sitting off the coast finally starting to move out and taking with it all the wet weather. our next round of showers is just off the coast line. let's get right to your 24 hour planter. tomorrow morning, fog, clouds, sunshine. showers showing up in the north bay. temperatures, 50's and 60's. it's getting wet across the region. the sun goes down and we will have scattered showers going for cinco de mayo. dan: thanks very much. in the east bay, more than 3000 teachers and educators in oakland are on strike and it doesn't appear that they will return to their jobs this week. >> we are the teachers. dan: contract talks with the school district did not produce a deal and more pickets are

planned for tomorrow. a big rally took place today outside oakland city hall and another rally is planned for friday. we have not heard if the two sides have made any progress and there's no indication they return to the bargaining table. parents are in limbo and some are opting to take their children to one of four centers that have opened up while the strike continues. others are frustrated and sending their kids to school. >> what they said is that they are going to be rallying and they will be making their voices heard. we want to respect that. we don't know if the schools will be staffed appropriately to have the kids they have. >> there are parents in a difficult position because of the strike. do they think about us? no. they ask us to support them. what are they supporting? you are not getting a 1% raise. come on now. dan: the oakland mayor says her office is monitoring the talks and is having conversations with both sides and is hopeful they

ama: community members gathered in front of a store on san francisco's market street this evening. they want to keep the 24-year-old memory alive. he was shot to death after being suspected of shoplifting. sf district attorney brooke jenkins said the security guard who shot brown will not face murder charges. she believes he acted in self-defense. the police chief said that the guard fired his gun after brown allegedly spat and raised an arm at him. he added that brown was not shot in the back and was not armed. dan: as we continue to highlight on -- our work on building a better bay area, business is expanding in the heart of san francisco. visual proposed ways to fill vacant spaces in union square. more mixed-use

celebrate mexican pride. there are plenty of family-friendly events going on tomorrow night. all of these are free. in alameda, they are doing games and move me. oakland's first fridays is all about latin pride tomorrow night. there are three different live concerts in golden gate park and it's always a big bash in santa rosa with music, games, booths, and a parade this year. it will be an extra special cinco de mayo in the south bay. it's the first since an integral piece of latino culture was allowed to roll back into san jose. lauren martinez shares a peek at some of the celebration. >> i've had that my wife's family car. reporter: david blago doesn't own regular cars. he has low riders dating back to the 1950's. he's thinking back on how the mexican holiday was celebrated when he was growing up in san jose. >> the music.
