for the san mateo bridge. and has been pretty treacy to dublin, 34 minutes, and everything else on time. reggie: today will not be classed as usual for thousands of students in oakland as teachers hit the picket line for a second day. schools will be operating on a modified schedule as teachers fight for better benefits and pay. we are at skyline high school where the teachers were picketing yesterday. reporter: yes, talk about being dedicated to the cause, we have a couple early risers already holding signs here at skyline and it is only a few minutes after 5:00 a.m. day two, more demonstrations are planned. we saw over 3000 educators on the picket line yesterday across 80 sites in oakland. and we know at this point there has been no agreement, no end

thooat oa modified schedule with the ongoing strike. the last day of classes is scheduled for mayketing was followed by a rally. we have not heard if the two sides have made any progress. there is no indication they have returned to the bargaining after hearing from the school district and oakland education association, there is also a question about the last action taken. the district says a written proposal was submitted on wednesday night but the union says that has not received a proposal, all regarding teacher contracts. for now, they are focusing on the impact to the students. >> we will continue to push further to be an agreement for both parties. it's our babies and we have to put them first. >> both sides, we told them we will help them reach an agreement because we have to get this to end as quickly as

possible so the kids are in school. reporter: you heard from the state superintendent tony thurmond they are speaking about the strike during a school visit ents a imbo, some ti to four ces at the have opened up. others are sharing their frustration, keeping them home altogether. in the next half hour, we will hear from parents directly as day two begins at 7:30 a.m. this morning, followed by a 12:30 p.m. demonstration expected elsewhere. for now, we have early risers here and we will be here all morning. in oakland, abc7 news. kumasi: we are learning more about the man arrested for a series of stabbings in davis. he has been identified as a former oakland resident and u.c. davis student. police said carlos dominguez was

detained at the same park as one of the stabbings. he was wearing clothing that witnesses described. he was also in possession of a knife at the time of his arrest. investigators say he is facing murder and attempted murder charges. he was a student at u.c. davis until last week, and laughter because of academic issues. it's not clear at this time of his motive. reggie: we have heard about businesses leaving downtown san francisco, but the fact remains there are some moving in or expanding. a new ikea is going up on market street, cocoa republic has opened and the old crate and barrel location, chanel recently moved into some new stores, and ross is expanding as it moves into this space that is currently nordstrom rack. so some shoppers are really

group members to not leave. the jury found another group member not guilty of seditious felonies, but guilty of other felonies. >> the department of justice very rarely charges seditious conspiracy. it's a political crime. and i call it treason's c it is a crime against the state, the government is the victim. jobienttorne countered that the former president is to blame. the doj because the probe into the generous six insurrection one of the largest and most complex in its history. the convictions follow a seditious conspiracy conviction for oath keepers' founder steward rhodes 85 of his group members. reggie: one of the three major highways to yosemite will be closed into the summer. highway 120 is closed because of a large crack in the road. it is about 200 feet long and up to four feet deep.

working for quite a while to put it out. so, it is a three alarm fire, erupting at 3:00 a.m. the roof collapsed. inside when the fire broke out but authorities say there have been no injuries reported. the cause is not known. we will keep you updated. reggie: a 21-year-old in custody after a second mass shooting in serbia in only two days. eight people died in this shooting. the man was in a vehicle, got out and started firing into a village. he left and drove to two other villages where he fired at more people. this is about 37 miles away from belgrade, were eight children died in a school shooting earlier this week. the incidents are not believed to be related. kumasi: president biden has picked his next u.s. general, the new york times says he will nominate general charles brown junior. the job as a top military

advisor to the president. brown is currently the chief of staff for the air force, he would succeed general mark milley, who was nominated by president trump in 2019. his term expires in september. reggie: the attorney for the man accused of killing bob lee is apologizing for controversial comments. after a toxicology report revealed lee had drugs in his system, nima momeni insinuated that drugs could have played a part in the action that led to his death. she then issued a statement apologizing for her remarks. "especially to bob and friends. i regret i categorized screen in such a cavalier way. i am sorry." kumasi: a new hotline in response to hate crimes. he crimes have jumped up 33% in 2020 from 2021 -- to 2021.

coming on. not the case today. traffic is moving. walnut creek, 680, that is where we see the taillights. i thought i would bring drive times for you. southbound on 680 from highway 4, six minutes. to highway 13, 8 minutes. nice. reggie: we are learning more about the man accused in a series of stabbings near uc davis. he is a former oakland resident and was a student at uc davis. gloria rodriguez is in the newsroom. reporter: we found out the suspect was a student at uc davis from the fall of 2020 until last week. then the school says he was separated for academic reasons. those who know the suspect say they are shocked. 21 year old carlos dominguez is facing charges of homicide and one count of attempted homicide. he stabbed three people in near

uc davis within a week. the attacks were violent and brazen. one man was killed, as well an on house to man. a woman is recovering. police say he had a backpack with a knife, consistent with what they were looking for. before college, carlos dominguez lived in oakland and at several people who knew him say they are shocked by the arrest, including his former coach. >> it was not that aggressive of a football player. you never had discipline issues on the field. >> i am hop person in davis can be done with this. reporter: those who know him say he had a family involved in his life. according to the university come he was a student until two days before the first attack. there's no information that carlos dominguez knew the

victims and it is unclear what the motive might have been. he could be in court as soon as monday. kumasi: for the second day, teachers are striking in oakland, but schools are open and students are expected to attend. our reporter is live in oakland with how parents are feeling about this. good morning. reporter: yeah, day two with many parents hoping a deal gets done this week. it is friday morning teachers are expected back on the picket line at 7:30 a.m., but still no indication that the district or union officials have returned to the bargaining table. but we know teachers will be returning to the picket lines across 80 different sites in oakland. yesterday, more than 3000 district educators went on strike 80 different schools, followed by a massive rally. we heard from both the school district and education

association, and there seems to be debate over the last action taken. the district says a proposal was submitted on wednesday night by the union says it has not received a proposal. this is all regarding teacher contracts. we found parents on both sides. while there are many parents who have put support behind the teachers, a father we spoke with feels the 22% raise offered by the district is one that the teachers union should accept. the union is asking for 23%. >> there's parents in a difficult position because of the strike. do they really think about us? no, they ask us to support them. what are we supporting? you are not getting a 1%? come on. >> keep it normal for the kids. there's packets the kids can browse, but there is games going on and of stories being read. reporter: for now, the schools will continue to operate on a

modified schedule. at the last day of classes will be may 25. we also heard from the superintendent, who spoke about the oakland teachers strike yesterday. he says he has reached out to both sides and he wants to help them reach an agreement, and then get the kids back in school. in 2019, the teachers strike lasted seven days. this is only the second day and we already see the group growing. more people are expected as the morning continues, but for now we are outside of skyline high school in oakland. reggie: it was a case that made international headlines in the 1980's and 1990's, now the brothers who killed at their parents in beverly hills are asking the courts to vacate their convictions. they are currently serving life in prison. the menendez brothers say they have new evidence. jobina: attorneys for the

brothers filed court papers at that argue that two new pieces of evidence, a letter written by eric to one of his cousins in 1989, 8 months before the killings, and recent allegations by a former member of the boy band menudo warrant opening the case. the parents were gunn their sons in 1989. their sons never denied carrying out the killings, but they claimed their father sexually molested them for years, and they killed their parents out of prosecutors say that the killings were financially motivated and appointed to spending sprees by the brothers after the fact. the first trial ended with the jury not able to reach a verdict. in the second trial, which lacked testimony, ende

both brother is convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy. today, their attorney say allegations of surfaced last month and a documentary in which a former member of the boy band menudo alleged that jose hernandez drugged and assaulted him when he was 14 during a visit to his home in new jersey in 1983 or 1984. jose was an executive at rca records, which signed menudo. the menendez brothers' attorne say they are being held unlawfully right now. reggie: ok, thank you. dianne feinstein has responded to claims she should resign. in a statement commission he says that she intends to stay in office, but she did not include an exact return date. she has missed dozens of votes since being hospitalized with shingles. she has been released from the hospital but has not returned to

the senate. and because of the midst of votes, she has faced calls to resign. but she says the committee she is on still advanced nominees despite her not being there to vote. kumasi: cleanup underway in southern california after two tornadoes touched down near l.a. the touched down in carson and compton. the first one and carson had winds up to 70 miles per hour. nobody was hurt, but there was damage to some buildings and vehicles. and at least wintry was toppled. reggie: ed sheeran has released a new album. it came out just hours jury found him not liable for copyright infringement. he was accused of copying marvin gaye's 1973 sheet music for "let's get it on" in his song "thinking out loud." he played his guitar on the stand, saying that his song's
