>> that slur came during a pregame segment before the a's took on the royals yesterday. kuyper made the apology and the games sixth inning. the a's released a statement saying the language used is unacceptable and has called play-by-play it for the a's since 2006. to developing news coming out of oakland, with just 14 days left in the school year there is hope a deal will be struck to end the teacher strike. abc 7 news reporter is following the story and says while there has been little progress there is still no agreement. >> friday mark day two of the oakland teacher strike and as of saturday there is no deal and nothing negotiated. >> still it is pretty confusing there are parts missing, there are a lot of errors, there seems to be some regression. >> the cochair of the teacher unions are getting team, the union says they received a new written proposal from the school district on friday night and spent all day saturday preparing a counter offer. >> for pe teachers it shows it

would be a class-size reduction, one pe teacher would get to students which would be great if it was a personal training class but that is notour peses ar>>h's bargaining team and says that the pe number should be 248 students not to. she says such errors are raising concern over efforts being put forth by the district. >> we need them to take the time to analyze the work they are putting forward to us. >> the union says it has not met face-to-face with the district negotiating team since tuesday, the district did not return quite -- requests for comment but did put out a statement saying what is being offered is a historic $70 million for teacher salaries and highlights concessions made on teacher workload. >> if we don't get it shut it down. >> the deadlock is over proposals that go beyond classroom learning such as

environmental justice, transportation for student homelessness. the district argues these are greater societal issues and not mandatory to negotiate, therefore the district has not given authorization to its team to bargain on these points. >> we know our working conditions are directly related to students learning conditions. >> the union argues common good is part of the comprehensive package and one by other bay area school districts, one example california is investing heavily in community schools with millions in funding on the line. the union says regarding community schools, an agreement on common good is about accountability. >> so that all of us have a voice in how that money is being used and that can be very threatening to people in power. so that i think is the root of the struggle right now. >> union says if there is no deal by sunday they strike on monday. in oakland abc 7 news. >> much more to come on abc

westbound interstate 580. this happened after 9:00 tonight and the highway patrol says at least five -- three vehicles were involved. one of the car slammed into a light pole, witnesses tell abc 7 news the cards may have been bracing. meantime a car went up in flames in oakland while dozens of other cars backed up traffic during a sideshow. a.m. close to lake merritt at 10th and oak streets, people were seen lighting fireworks and video shows multiple cars burning. crews eventually put out the fires as officers cleared traffic. cameras captured at least one car that was involved in the sideshow being towed. in san jose celebrations for cinco de mayo continue this weekend. low rider and custom-built vehicle fans had more to celebrate after the city of san jose lifted its decades long implementing of no cruising

researched the negative impacts of slavery on his descendants for more than two years. the panel's proposal contains restitution estimates to african-americans living in the state that have experienced housing discrimination. racial injustice and more. african-americans living in california with an ancestor or incident -- ancestors tied to slavery could receive cash payments. panelists say at the time is now. >> i think we have come upon a time that we have to be practitioners, we have got to be social engineers. and make sure we deliver something to this black population or else we never will do it. >> according to the report and african-american resident over the age of 70 could receive payments up to $1.2 million in that final report will contain 95 recommendations for determination of what recommendation -- will look like in the future. they will pass some

who knows what kind of season it's going to be now the way things are changing. here we are near the end of the first week in may and it is snowing in the sierra. not anymore, we had rainfall here in the bay area today. here's a look at the satellite radar composite image of what was our storm. it produced some showers and downpours but it has moved out of the bay area now and behind it we have partial clearing and very light wind. wind speeds right now are five or six miles per hour. why don't we go to a look at the 24 hour temperature change, in the north bay it is about two to three degrees cooler in most locations. elsewhere it is about a degree or two warmer. here is a live view from the exploratorium looking back at the cityscape of san francisco with partly cloudy skies. current temperature reading 52 in san francisco and half moon bay. mid-50's at oakland, palo alto san jose and mountain view. a nice view from emeryville looking back toward san francisco.

sunshine and breezy conditions at the coast, 56 at half moon bay, 59 in san francisco. around the bay most locations will top out around 62 to 64. inland east bay upper 60's similar ratings in the south bay and the north bay a wider range. it low to mid 60's with highs of 63 in san rafael and napa 66. then farther north at lakeport a high of only 61. as we look ahead the maximum temperature range on wednesday, we will see some warming beginning low 70's inland. mid 70's then friday some mid 80's. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast. mainly dry days ahead but on monday morning a chance of light widely scattered showers. and not enough rain likely for us to post a ranking on the storm impact scale. on tuesday it starts drying out again, wednesday through friday warming up and by saturday we may have inland highs around 90.

>> in san francisco nearly 200 kids were given a new set of wheels today. rotary clubs of san francisco donated $20,000 worth of bikes to underserved children. all of this is an effort to promote healthy lifestyle and explore different modes of transportation. volunteers assembled several dozen bicycles, kids were also given safety gear including helmets and bike lots. -- locks.

alleged victims of a 39 million dollar ponzi scheme, that scam was allegedly orchestrated by an east bay man and victims say they lost hundreds of thousands of dollars. sometimes also their homes. the victims all have one thing in common. >> you feel ashamed, violated and you feel embarrassed. and you feel afraid. >> it has been a long trying seven years for kingsley and his 76-year-old mother who requested we only use their nicknames. seven years of trying to find justice after mom was defrauded out of a house by an alamo man indicted by the u.s. department of justice this week. she was close with derek's father. >> he was a family friend for close to 30 years, he seemed like an honest man and my mother trusted him so much she had felix deliver the eulogy at my father's funeral. >> he says he was widely connected in the chinatown

inquire if charges would be coming, derek chu faces a sentence of decades behind bars and a maximum fine in the millions. his next court appearance is may 9. >> i spoke with an attorney tonight who says after our story aired she received a number of leads on more potential victims. still no word yet on the department of justice. moving onto the peninsula hundreds of firearms were turned in during an anonymous gun buyback event in south san francisco. residents received up to 200 dollars for each firearm and over 200 guns were collected. in total nearly 2700 firearms have been removed from the county buyback events. a second gun buyback event is scheduled for december in san mateo county. a 17-year-old girl is dead and five other people injured following a shooting overnight at a house party in chico. chico police say the suspect is still on the loose but there is no threat to the public.

investigators are still piecing together what happened. it was a separate arrest after a fight broke out at have different party in two different people attack their, that suspect was taken into custody after showing up at the second party and reportedly pulling out a gun. the shooting happened less than 30 minutes later. at least nine people are dead and seven injured after a gunman opened fire at a mall in dallas suburb this afternoon. multiple victims as young as five years old were taken to a nearby hospital. a witness says he heard several gunshots and head in the back of the store with other customers. >> i ran to the front of the store and they said no there is shooting and we see a guy dressed in all black wearing a vest with an assault rifle shooting at people. i never thought we would be involved and washington like that happen. >> an officer responding to an unrelated call near the mall heard gunfire and found the suspect wearing tactical year. the officer then shot and killed
