vita blue the giants observed a moment of silence to remember the long time bay area picture. thank you for joining us it was an emotional day for a's and giants fans who are mourning the passing of the sixth time all-star and three-time world series champions. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard talk to fans who will miss the bay area favorite. >> he was the hard throwing left-hander who became one of baseball's biggest draws in the early 1970's his name was vita blue. >> he was as dynamic as anybody in the bay area. you wanted to see him, when he pitched you wanted to be at the game. >> this radio host remembers him as a kind and humble man and one of baseball's greats who help heland a's to three straight world series titles. the team tweeted rest in peace and sent this message, there are few players with a more

brian stoner says growing up vita was his role model. >> he throws balls, winding up and would throw a ball to us as kids. he would just throw it to us, he is a very nice guy. i would get his autograph, he was talk to us. >> he was a good man and good for the community and supported children's sports. he leaves a great legacy. >> he had his personal struggles and his career was derailed by substance abuse issues. >> he had his issues as many people do in life during the 80's he was involved in the cocaine scandals of baseball. but he never lost his humility, never lost his ability to lead and be a mentor. >> last year the a's honored him in the 1972 world series championship squad the year the a's beat the reds capturing the first pro sports championship in bay area history. vita blue making it happen.
