she says concrete proposals are now on the table but adds that big gaps still exist, especially related to nonteaching staff. >> we are much further apart even on the t 12 compensation than we initially thought, so the progress is still limited. reporter: two negotiators were sent to meet with the district's bargaining team. the district issued a statement highlighting salary increases. it reads in part, we put all our money on the table to take care of our teachers and there is not much room to do anything else. the negotiators t the community to understand while the teachers' salary is important, it is also important to understand the are getting of a package is an attempt to keep up with the times. >> the job has become different. the needs of our students have become different. reporter: the union says if they

doment, the strike continues on monday. dion: community membersr banco downtown san francisco. demonstrators are demanding the release of the walgreens footage which shows the moment brown was shot to death. he was fatally shot by a security guard at a ralphs last month. this comes after the sf district attorney said the guard would not face murder charges. police chief william scott said last week that brown was suspected of spitting and raising his arm at the guard. his investigation is still open. our central mission in building a better bay area pushes us to focus on finding solutions for issues of race and social justice.

in san jose tonight, there is a debate over cinco de mayo celebrations.ea police response. j.r. stone spoke to all sides of the community and brings us this story. >> are mexican american community wanted to celebrate cinco de mayo and celebrate the first year this band has been lifted. j.r.: san jose city councilmember omar torres referencing san jose's ban on cruising lifted last september. torres and three other homes of members -- three other councilmembers criticizing caltrans closing several on ramps and a heavy officer presence at cinco de mayo festivities. >> unfortunately this definitely

released a joint statement today condemning the offramp closures. to developing news on the peninsula now. redwood city police say five people were shot earlier this morning. it happened on redwood avenue just after 4:30. officers say the group of four adults and a 16-year-old boy were drinking on the sidewalk. that is when the shooter approach to and opened fire. that person escaped. police say the injuries are serious but not life-threatening. officers are actively looking for the shooter. a memorial now sits in front of the allen texas outlet mall where eight people were killed in shooting rampage on saturday. authorities are releasing new details about the shooter and looking into whether this act was one of terrorism. here is melissa a don with the latest. reporter: governor greg abbott attending a vigil on saturday as

the community gathered to mourn couth the eight lives lost. the victims range in age from five to 61. among those videos -- victims, 20-year-old christian. his sister tells abc he worked at the mall. investigators are reviewing this graphic video showing the gunman stepping out of the car and opening fire on people on the sidewalk at the allen premium outlets north of dallas saturday afternoon. a police officer was in the area on a different call when he heard the gunshots. minutes later saying he had taken down the shooter. martina says she sheltered in a fitting room, the gunman firing at her parents who survived. >> they began to run and they both fell to the ground. ab he thought he had shot them so he turned the gun and began shooting in the other direction where there are a lot of people. reporter: a former officer says

his son works at the mall. he says he was at the scene within minutes and tells abc's matt gutman he called 911. >> i told her i have got seven bodies. she says i do not know if we have that many ambulances. >> he was underneath some of the adults. he managed to get out and he was covered in blood, so i got him to a safe spot so i could get him out first. reporter: the suspected shooter has been identified as 33-year-old mauricio garcia. >> we believe at this point the shooter acted alone. reporter: authorities tell abc news they have not yet determined a motive. they say in 2008, garcia was discharged on mental health concerns. investigators are now poring over his social media history, and they say he was wearing a patch with white supremacist insignia.

dion: new details tonight into a car crash in texas near the u.s.-mexico border. eight people are dead after a car plowed into a bus stop. you can see the damage into the front end of this silver range rover involved in the collision. at least nine others are hurt and receiving treatment. the driver of the suv has been arrested and video of the incident itself shows the driver moving at a high rate of speed. authorities are still trying to pin down a motive. that crash happened outside a shelter that provided resources to migrants. >> right now the homeless shelter has a lot of people where they are waiting for their final destination overnight, so they will go on the bus with the plane. dion: some of those hit were migrants under care of u.s. border patrol. a newly constructed offramp to

you bore violent is now open to traffic. -- yubova i the new ramp is off the far right lane of the lower deck. the former left ramp will remain open for several weeks to give drivers time to adjust to the new location. over in the east bay, oakland will provide thousands of local residents with free high-speed internet. the city plans to give the wireless service the five of its largest public housing communities by 2024. services will also include internet and wi-fi in community rooms and other areas paid all of this part of the city's initiative to close the digital divide in underserved neighborhoods. we are celebrating asian american and pacific island or heritage month all month long at abc 7. today we saw a cultural run

help the community. there was a 5k run this morning. it was the second annual heritage 5k fun run from the nonprofits, asians are strong. runners passed by 14 aapi landmarks. organizers say it embodies the resurgence of the new aapi movement. >> come stronger together and not being afraid of the hate that is out there, knowing people we have building community. dion: after the race, runners got to enjoy a festival at portsmouth square including asian cultural dances, performances, and lots of food. cultural icons, philanthropists, and through answers -- influences came together in an effort to address issues facing chinese-americans. i was honored to host alongside

abc 7 news legend david louis the committee of 100 gala last night in san jose. there were more than 5000 attendees. distinguished speakers include congressman jimmy choo and producer janet yang. assembly member evan many more. it was a great event, lots of energy, and just nice to see. spencer: we all miss david here. such a legend. dion: and so full of energy. [laughter] spencer: i will put a little energy into the weather forecast right now. the satellite radar composite, you see that low-pressure system offshore and the weak cold front sleeping around it is bringing some showers possibly to the bay area, certainly into the north bay around midnight or so. right now, conditions, so no strong wind ahead of that system.

we go onto the 24 hour temperature change, showing things cooler south of the northern gate in most locations that this time last night. looking out over san francisco, this view gives us no hint of approaching rainfall. 53 san francisco, 53 oakland, low to mid 50's palo alto, san jose and half moon bay at 48. also this camera from emeryville gives no hint of an approaching rainfall. 51 at napa, 41 fairfield, 53 concord, and finally this view from exploratorium camera looking out toward the bay bridge. these are the forecast headline showers arrived in the north bay around midnight, but they not be heavy -- they may not be heavy. we can expect sunny and weather later this week. let's look at the approaching

system. starting at 11:30 tonight, by midnight we will see some showers moving through the north a and that pattern will continue up until the beginning of the morning commute around 5:00 a.m. after 5:00, we will see what i left of the system moving southward or eastward. we are not talking about significant rainfall nor are we talking about widespread storms. by midday, we should have sunny skies tomorrow, and that pattern will continue into tomorrow evening. for the rainfall totals, we are looking at the end of the day tomorrow may be 0.001 many locations will receive no rain at all from this location. we will see increasing cloudless low temperatures in the mid to upper 40's, and tomorrow look for highs engine from upper 50's on the coast to the mid 60's around the bay shoreline, and inland areas, mid to upper 60's. low 70's tomorrow.

however, tuesday and wednesday we expect dry conditions and temperatures to be comfortably mild. the big increase in temperatures will begin on thursday. we will see mid 70's and lend, and friday looking at mid 80's and land and 70's around the bay shoreline. highs around 90 degrees. 80 degrees around the bay, mid to upper 60's at the coast, and temperatures taper off a couple of degrees on sunday. next weekend will be quite warm and wonderful. make some outdoor plans. dion: whatever you enjoy it. thank you. still ahead on abc 7 news at 11:00, finding health and wellness for free. the deal

sunday evening, the king also celebrated with a concert at windsor castle featuring the likes of katy perry and lionel richie. the prince and princess of making a surprise appearance, greeting coronation concertgoers. >> as my grandmother said when she was crowned, coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future. i know she is up there fondly keeping an eye on us and she would be very proud. we are also proud of you. reporter: the queen and king released a statement thanking the public for their support, saying they were deeply touched. it is the first time we have heard from them since saturday's ceremony, full of ancient ceremonies and traditional rituals. >> none of us except for my 95-year-old mother in law have experienced the coronation. reporter: and monday was declared a holiday in the u.k.

their performances. other main american idol judges ryan was joined by alanna morrissette and ed sheeran who were also stunned in their seats. helping news in washington where house republicans are planning a thursday vote on a hard-line border security bill. the plan aims to make permanent some of president trump's strictest immigration measures including resuming construction of the border wall. that bill would also restrict federal funding to ngo's helping migrants seek asylum. th ends, the policy that allows migrants to be randomly deported. it is unclear if the gop immigration bill has enough support in the democratically controlled senate to actually go anywhere. it is a big development discussion over reparations in california.

a final proposal is now one step closer to being voted on by state lawmakers. over the weekend, the california reparations task force approved its recommendations in oakland. her more than two years now, that task force has been done being the harms of slavery, discrimination, and injustices under its descendants in california. african-americans living in california with ancestors tied to slavery could receive cash payments and other reforms. panelists say the time is now. >> i think it comes upon a time that we have got to be social engineers. and make sure that we deliver something. because this black population knows that we must do it. dion: an african-american resident over the age of 70 could receive payments of up to $1.2 million. the final report is due to state lawmakers at the end of june.

asked a lot over the last few years. the idea of a california gaining traction. followed a group of californians in a special project, and what we found may surprise you. here is a story of california dreaming -- dreaming moving to texas. >> i family is originally from south korea and we immigrated in 1972 when i was a baby. we lived in los angeles most of our life. unfortunately my parents' grocery stores were burned down in the l.a. riots in koreatown, so that was a tragic experience for my family. >> shouted in smoke and echoing

with gunfire, l.a. looks like a war zone. >> a lot of things happened between then, but we stay true to california, the golden state. california is utterly beautiful. there is no denying that. everybody i know that has moved from california to texas, they all say, we missed the beach, the scenery. i used to go camping. i think i have hit almost every national forest in california. and so, it was hard to g up. with that said, i definitely think that mismanaged. he moved primarily because of the crime. for me, it was not only the crime, but also the amount of homelessness, needles.

[laughter] let's get onto weather. tonight we will see breezy clouds. low temperatures mainly in the upper 40's, and tomorrow we will look for lingering clouds after some early morning sprinkles in the north bay. highs tomorrow mainly in the mid 60's at the bay, but later in the week, look at the warm up. mid 70's inland, but mid-80's, and by friday we are talking 90 degrees or higher in the warmest inland spots, almost like summer. here is the accuweather 7-day forecast. a sprinkle or two tomorrow morning, mainly during the overnight hours in the north bay, and it starts to dry up midday. dryer on tuesday and wednesday but temperatures do not jump up until thursday. it kicks into high gear going into the weekend and it looks like next saturday and sunday will have highs

station kabc in los angeles. adding ready for the warriors-lakers game tomorrow. it would be nice to win the series back in the bay. moses moody was emblematic of the warriors' high points last night. stephen curry would put the warriors up in the second quarter, turning out to be their largest lead of the night. during that lakers come back, anthony davis spotted moody, and moody grabbed his knee on the way down the court. after the review, moody was given a flagrant follow. then lebron james laid up four of the lead and l.a. never trailed again. i caught up with the disappointed moody after the game obviously a tough game -- after the game. >> obviously a tough game. >> what did you guys think about your force and physicality as a team?
