>> late last month, a security guard shot and killed brown in an incident at a walgreens on market street. jenkins has so far resisted calls to release any video. in a statement monday, she said that while she understands the need for transport tsay, the investigation is ongoing and a final decision on charges has not been made. jenkins stated that releasing any evidence before the investigation finishes uh- is unethical and could compromise her team's work. >> i feel like they're hiding something. it's something. something else has transpired in that store that we don't know about and they don't want us to see it despite the call by these protesters to release the tape, some legal analysts say they might not hold all the answers. >> people believe that video is going to be the panacea to everything and that it explains why decisions were made. but that's not the case frequently. >> stephen clark is an attorney and legal analyst. he says the video is likely only one part of a complex puzzle for the district attorney was careful to

for homeless students. reporer ations for black students. and the concept of shared governance. that means people outside of the district could be involved in making decisions about the schools. many of my students were unhoused. >> many of my students needed mental health services. and these are not just these are things that matter to our students and to their education. >> so items that are outside of the scope of the contract, which are basically early compensation and work conditions, are not going to be negotiated. >> late today, the oakland branch of the naacp called on teachers to end the strike, saying while they support the work they do, the walkout is hurting oakland students during one of the most important times of the school year. tonight we spoke with labor experts who say what we're seeing here is actually not new, but similar to efforts of unions across the country in recent years. abc seven news reporter j.r stone joins us in studio to explain j.r alma that's right. >> and the experts say unions have been successful here

because it's not just about teacher pay. it's about moves that could directly impact students and their families. despite the ousd negotiations, team spending the entire weekend trying to find a collaborative way forward. >> and oca has continued their strike. >> that is part of the one minute message put out monday night by the oakland unified school district as the oakland education association's teachers strike continues. here's uc berkeley labor center chair ken jacobs, who has been closely following the situation. i think this strike follows the pattern that we've been seeing with the teachers really for a decade now, starting with the chicago teachers union, jacobs says. >> it was that chicago union that also pushed for broader demands, in addition to teacher pay to benefit students and communities, something that los angeles teachers recently pushed for and won shared governance at schools was a major demand.

seven news reporter lauren martinez has that story. i think a lot of parents are in denial. >> not my child. and i'm here to tell you that that it could be your child. marlene harden's daughter, chloe died from an accidental fentanyl overdose on april 27th, 2022. >> chloe was 18 years old. chloe was on life support for three days. >> uh- and it was determined that chloe had sustained a severe brain injury from lack of oxygen in. >> chloe was born and raised in los gatos. her mother says she was funny and caring. she had a passion for saving animals. when chloe was 12 years old, the unexpected death of her father hit her hard, so she tried to numb the pain. >> you know, sadly, she started self-medicating with marijuana and that progressed to prescription pills that she obtained with her friends from parents from unlocked medicine cabinets. >> chloe started taking xanax

and eventual she became addicted to percocet. by age 15, harden said chloe was getting prescription drugs online through social media instagram, snapchat. >> it was really easy for her to get. and these drug dealers even delivered to our home. chloe went through counseling, a drug treatment program three times and occasionally got her phone taken away. >> despite those efforts, she found a way. >> lots of times people that don't know the dangers of fentanyl think that people like chloe go out and intentionally try to get fentanyl, and that's not the case here, harden said. chloe ordered a percocet through social media the day she died. >> it was laced with fentanyl. now harden hopes she can educate as many parents as she can. >> people are dying and they're not necessarily drug addicts or or it could just take one time, one pill, one pill can kill data published in the american medical association's pediatrics journal said there were more

than 1500 paediatr troc deaths from fentanyl in 2021. >> that's over 30 times more than in 2013. i urge any parent, anyone one that can have narcan readily available to have that on hand. >> it could save somebody's life in the south bay. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news. now to a big announcement from the roman catholic diocese of oakland. >> it's filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy as it deals with more than 300 lawsuits alleging sex abuse against children. a recent california statute is allowing decades old cases to be reopen, and that could mean major settlements for those who suffered abuse. the diocese says it will continue to operate. its employees and vendors will continue to be paid, according to the oakland diocese, mass attendance dropped 42% in 2021, compared to 2019 numbers. attendance is also down nationwide as churches across the country are also facing a

south beach camera. don't do it just yet. good evening, everyone. we do have some clouds out there and there will be some fog. so let's talk about the heat spiking from tomorrow to saturday. you're going to notice a big difference. so upper 60s for santa rosa, san jose and livermore. notice those temperatures coming up on saturday for both santa rosa and livermore will be in the low 90s. san jose going from 67 to 87. a good £0.20 degree jump. the reason for that is this weekend high pressure is going to be building in and that's going to bring summer like heat . there are a few cities that will get a couple of degrees away from their records for the day. so stay tuned. that's for saturday as we look at live doppler seven right now, we are seeing a lot of high cloud cover as the system. another system is heading in our direction. this area of low pressure came through earlier this morning, brought us some showers, as you know, about 2/10 of an inch in the wettest locations. those showers are gone to this afternoon. temperatures will still a few degrees behind where they should be for this time of

year. but they were in the 60s, low to upper 60s. that's going to change as we head towards the weekend, 40s and 50s. on your numbers right now as we look at a live picture from our golden gate bridge camera, it is getting a little murky out there. clouds and patchy fog in the morning, much warmer weather at the end of the week and temperatures are going to be rising above average this weekend for hourly forecasts. you will notice that 5:00 tomorrow morning, 40s, 50s. as we take you into the afternoon hours, those temperatures will come up into the upper 60s to low 70s. so it should be a nice looking day, but there will certainly be a lot more cloud cover because of that system off the coast coming down towards southern california. 40s and 50s on your temperatures tomorrow morning. watch out for that fog tomorrow afternoon. uh- upper 50s at the coast in places like half moon bay. all the way to the low 70s inland breezy along the coastline and a mix of sun and clouds will pretty much do it for your tuesday friday uh- things change. you're in the 80s, inland as we go into saturday and sunday, bumping those temperatures up into the 90s. it's going to feel like
