11:01 pm
away from the coast as we head towards midnight sunday temperatures begin to trend a lower as we start to see some changes coming from mother's day. just a reminder never leave pets or kids inside vehicles stay hydrated and in the shade reduce your outdoor time and wear lightweight clothing here is what you need to worry about first thing in the morning a live view showing you that fog from our sutro tower camera. i'll be back with a full look at the mother's day weekend forecast coming right up oma. thank you, sandy and as things begin to heat up, it is important to remember to be careful in the water. we're talking about rivers, even the beaches emergency officials expect large crowds along the coast and advise beach goers never turn your back on the surf this mountain view resident kicked off her mother's day weekend at baker beach in san francisco. we have been checking the weather report to wait for the days to be warm and finally here. in the north bay the russian river is flowing at a faster rate as the snowpack melts officials are urging people to use life jackets, and you can
11:02 pm
check the forecast and see the temperatures anytime with the abc 7 bay area streaming tv app. it's all available in the weather on demand section. now to the warriors and their bad night in los angeles and perhaps maybe the end of their dynasty they lost the lakers and their season is over. it was tough tonight. yeah, abc 7 news sports directer larry beale joins us. where do we even start? this was really difficult to watch miss after missing clang clay. i mean you everybody was hoping okay, they can win and force a game seven and but they just could not catch the lightning in a bottle. this was a long drama-filled season. it came to a crashing and the warriors got blown out of game six of their series with the lakers. there's going to be major roster changes ahead or just came out strangely with really low energy. they missed a ton of shots. the dubs were hoping for a legendary game six clay performance. klay thompson out of nightmare three of nineteen shooting two of 12 from deep the warriors
11:03 pm
were 13 of 48 from downtown. they got t mh lebn james at scorers with0 points nine rebounds nine assists. he played 43 out of 48 minutes. he's like a machine looking like magic johnson the no look dish to really hachi mora lakers crushed the lifeless dubs 122 101. they take the series four games to two and advanced to the western conference final while the warriors are facing a most uncertain summer of changes. this is not a championship team. you know, it's if we were we'd be moving on so you can you can look at the year in. in total and and see all the ups and downs and there was all kinds of stuff that went on and and adversity that that hit but our group stay together and competed till the end and made a pretty good run worse season. as a whole
11:04 pm
you know we had a chance to to make another run so it's never as bad as it seems is never as good as it seems. you know listening to the post-game comments. the warriors said it the lakers were better you we really were not a championship team. draymond said he wants to come back with clay and steph so it sounds like they're gonna try to keep the core together but everything else around them i could easily change jonathan commingas representatives already talking about what his future is going to look like and either play me or trade me kind of situation. so it's going to be a lot of upheaval and it all will start with a general manager bob myers because his contract is that we don't know he's gonna be back so it's from the very top to you know, last place located at that core of great three veteran players now how to mix the right young people. well you got some super expensive talent and then you have to fill in with the rest and it's really really challenging but joe lakeup doesn't want to spend 360 million dollars for a team that
11:05 pm
loses in round more thousands elonig to root tand ge chase center. they try instead of nation saw something that had never happened in the steve kerr era a series loss in the western conference playoffs abc 7 news reporter. tim johns was there. yeah, dan. i'm a lot of somber faces here at drive city this evening the game obviously did not go the way that we wanted to a lot of fans are really disappointed. i've been here all evening long and it started out really optimistic people were sure that the warriors were gonna get that tough win down in los angeles and then bring it back home here to the bay area on sunday and take the series and advance. obviously that did not happen this evening. we talked to some folks after the game was over and we ask them what they think what wrong and how they're feeling this it's definitely the restful. um play also didn't show up
11:06 pm
tonight. so that's just kind of f nexar it' unfortunately we're gonnaasn tickets. i'm from atlanta, georgia. my grandmother's a warriors fan. she's 93 years old and i gotta tell her that we're out of it now another big question on everyone's mind tonight. is this the end of the warriors sign obviously, they've been so good for so long, but you know the fans i talk to you here this evening say they don't think it's the end of the dynasty. they think this is just a flip. that's a warriors are gonna be back next year stronger than ever and thrive city jobs. hope they're right. thanks, tim. well button up warriors coverage a little later in sports but moving on now abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area and we have looked extensively at how downtown san francisco is lagging and recovering from the pandemic tonight. there was a new effort to bring it back to life. there was an event in chinatown and juwalking off two blocks of
11:07 pm
battery street, friday evening bangra and beats night market bringing the foot traffic being joyous together. i mean the dance the food the music, you know, we are tired of the pandemic. we want to really come out hug each other celebrate and have a good time. john day is the owner of new delhi restaurant serving san francisco for decade. we are the people are never going to leave san francisco we want to rejoice and celebrate what san francisco is today the city and a local nonprofit are funding this and several other night markets this summer making way for artists like vanessa o'hanlon who lives and works in chinatown. i think it's everything to to activate the streets and be out in the streets. i don't have a store front actually, so i'm excited anytime i get a show and be out and have
11:08 pm
a lot of audience. i think it's gonna give people hope and excitemen a really long hard time. nothing sf is due for a renaissance. i've always said that brandon sing lives in the mission district here in support of a friend. yeah, you're representing and trying to make sure everybody feels seen trying to make sure everybody can get a taste of different people's lives and experience. it's very get down here on barton 10 minutes and walk eight minutes to the festival. we're trying to revitalize our downtown and getting people out of their routines getting people out of their ruts chris borkeland rallying her friends in support of the city, especially the downtown area means a little punch and this kind of this type of events. we'll hopefully bring it around. we're just hoping for the best because we love san francisco cara campbell abc 7 news and we'll save the city for this story and you at 11 another

11:10 pm
they need to pass for graduation. and without final grades ousd can't determine which seniors need to take courses during summer school in order to graduate. meanwhile both sides say there has been progress at the negotiating table swish that they would end the strike and allow the last points to get figured out by adults without impacting kids. we're hoping that this weekend that there's a turning point and that i'll be back with my babies on monday morning. in addition to seeking pay increases the teachers are making so-called common good demands addressing homelessness environmental issues and critical upgrades for school facilities. tonight we're hearing from mayor london breed for the first time about last month's deadly shooting at a san francisco walgreens 24 year old banco brown died after being shot by a store security guard. the guard hasn't been charged in the case. but the district attorney says a final decision hasn't been made as the case is still under investigation local activists and politicians have been calling for evidence be released in a statement breed said in

part. i understand the sensitivity of investigations and expect the da and sfpd to deliver a thorough fair and transparent investigation regardless of how this case concludes a young person lost their life and that is devastating. in the east bay clean up and closures will continue in martinez into the weekend hazmat cruise have been hard at work after a mercury spill on monday. the spill was first discovered in a trash can near the amtrak station a trash truck then leaked the mercury officials say they removed mercury from more than 3,800 feet of roads along the truck's route a health advisory is still in effect while workers finished cleaning up at a few remaining sites. the contra costa health department is asking people to still avoid that area title 42's expiration has created chaos at the border the surge of migrants appears to be slowing, but there's a new crisis that estates asking for help crunch time. the governor's plan for dealing

the covid era immigration policy that expired a little over 24 hours ago. now officials say the border isn't nearly as chaotic as it was on thursday, but there are new concerns. yeah, the new rules for asylum seekers have states as far away as new york asking the white house for help abc news reporter morgan norwood is following the crisis in el paso, texas. we did not see a substantial increase overnight or an influx at midnight. it wasn't the surge officials
11:15 pm
were expecting once title 42 ended but the us-mexico border is gearing up for what could be months of chaos title 42 the trump-era health policy allowing the quick expulsion of millions of migrants is officially over in a new policy now in place hundreds of migrants camped out next to the border wall taken in by immigration officials, but so many migrants have crossed that authorities simply just don't have the capacity to hold them while asylum claims are being processed at least border cities like el paso to shoulder the burden the city opening up its for shelter taking in about 150 migrants. we know that are still need to prepare for the unknown, but it's not just border cities bracing for migrants several other cities around the country fear. they don't have enough resources this bus arriving in new york city this morning today governor kathy hoekel calling president biden asking for federal help. do not ignore new york city. we cannot handle the immigration problem all on our own making
11:16 pm
things even more difficult at the border a late night ruling by a florida federal judge border patrol agents now not allowed to release migrants without a formal notice to appearing court the practice of releasing individuals when are border patrol facilities when our border patrol stations are overcrowded is something that each administration has done from administration to administration. this is a harmful ruling and the department of justice is considering our options and to relieve that over is adding detention beds now that pandemic restrictions have lifted and cpb adding more appointments to its app to speed up the application process a morgan norwood abc news, el paso. yeah. all right, governor newsom says he's his revised budget proposal takes the necessary steps to offset. the state's growing budget deficit. i hope you see we try to do our best to hold the line and take care of the most vulnerable. most needy, but still maintain prudence. i don't want to go back to the old ways. i've said this a hundred times. i'll say it again.
11:17 pm
you don't have to be profligate to be progressive. the governor unveiled the updated 306 billion dollar spending plan this morning. he says the deficit now stands at an estimated 31.5 billion dollars. that's nine billion dollars more than in january governor newsom says, the state's challenges are partly due to high inflation and the state's decision to let some people delay filing their taxes after winter storms. some relief could be coming for women going through menopause today the fda approved vioza, which can help treat hot flashes the medication blocks receptors in the brain that play a role in the regulation of body temperature. the drug will cost about $550 for a one-month supply that's before before insurance and other documents. all right. there are not a whole lot of words to describe this next story other than there is an enormous snapping turtle that's rightfully earned the nickname chancasaurus. look at this guy look at us. we got a picture of his most
11:18 pm
beautiful side. what size is it? how chakasaurus calls the chicago home and in this instance was spotted in the chicago river by some kayakers experts say it's hard to figure out just how large the turtle is despite the video. meanwhile enjoy more of this encounter with naked. look at that beast. hey, i do it good. you're healthy. to take them out to eat. i like it. we should think about you. it's the class everything better. that's funny. wow. all right time now to move on to the warming weekend forecast. we're gonna be selling ourselves like chunkosaurus soaking up the sun indeed. it looks like chancasaurus was actually enjoying. yeah sunshine right dan and alma some like it hot and hot is exactly what i've got tomorrow. take a look at your summer like heat temperatures soaring into the low to mid 90s tomorrow 94 in fairfield brentwood gilroy 91
11:19 pm
livermore 92 degrees walnut creek 90 concord 93, so it's really not going to feel like spring it's gonna feel more like summer a very friendly reminder uv index will be very high tomorrow a nine and so the most intense heat is between 10 am and 4 pm. the time to burn is 15 to 25 minutes good idea to lather on the sunscreen and if you want to escape the heat, well the beach might be the place to go. this is santa cruz a live view and here's a look. at your beach forecast 65 degrees in pacifica tomorrow 660 ocean beach 78 in santa cruz. mainly sunny mild to warm. you'll notice the ocean temperature has come up 54 degrees, but there will be some lingering fog along the coastline like we have right now from our sfo camera here. it is on live doppler 7, but it has compressed to about 800 feet. and that means the fog is going to be thick first thing tomorrow morning visibility down to four miles right now in half moon bay. watch out temperatures at this hour in the 50s and the 60s so
11:20 pm
still pretty for most of you as we look at the high temperatures for today. they came up below 80s inland got up into the 60s and 70s elsewhere 58 degrees in half moon bay from our san jose camera. you're looking at a lovely view of the shark tank as we look at the forecast headlines heating up tomorrow temperatures. well above average for a change limited fog along the coastline overnight and the heat eases in time for mother's day plants. so if you do have plans on mother's day and they happen to be outside 7 am there will be some fog and drizzle near the coast. so a good idea to plan accordingly by noon time. it's warming bay in inland still on the cool side of the coast and it is a cooler day but pleasant for pm upper 50s to mid 80s breezy along the coastline. it will be cooling by 7 pm the fog first thing in the morning at 7 o'clock. it'll pull away but then just hang around in patches near the coastline. so that's why it's not going to get warm at the coast 40s 50s once again watch out. it will be thick right near the coastline first thing tomorrow
11:21 pm
morning tomorrow afternoon in the south bay. we're talking hot weather lost. gilroy 91-87 san jose 84 milpitas on the peninsula 84 redwood city 64 half moon bay a nice day really is going to feel like summer 72 san francisco 65 and daly city north bay numbers 93 in santa rosa getting you up to about 87 in san rafael 90 in napa east bay warmer than average 80 in oakland san leandro 81 in hayward 85 fremont had inland and it's going to feel like all of a sudden we're simmering in the heat 92. degrees there in livermore 90 in pleasanton and walnut creek accuweather 7-day forecast. it's a one-day heat up mid-90s inland mid-60s coast mother's day is looking nice. just not as hot. so we'll go with the morning drizzle followed by a cooler day and then a mix of sun clouds. it's going to be minor ups and downs for the work week. so i'm in dan just overall looking good for mother's day weekend. nice. i want to wish my mom all the

curry did all he could to keep the dubs in it high off the window right there. plus the foul does showing some signs of life and dante divincenzo might have been the best player for the warriors in the first half cut the deficit down to four he finished with 16 points, but end of the half the warriors had the last shot. this happened so many times this season. they launched too early with clay lakers half court he bet it goes from reeves lakers up 10 at the brakes second half the trend of war here smith is just continued clang cl. lying they took 103 shots hit only 39 not nearly enough lakers relentless ad from lebron on the oop and the navy steals the inbounds pass and then we had fireworks double t's on draymond and dennis schroeder schroder was tossed from the game fourth quarter lebron working on wiggins who battled despite the painful ribs. that's an and one and moments later the magic johnson impersonation to really hachi moore lakers in a route 122101. they were clearly the better team. they eliminate the defending. champs in six games live pride

and what we accomplished but there is also an understanding that this is not good enough and we have to be you know a lot better next year and start. you know really establishing ourselves as a legit championship consider because we weren't this year. i still feel like this team. has championship potenti didn't get there this year, but it's not like this is the end of the road. i can tell you we gave it everything we had and just stings, but i mean, i believe that we have greatness in our future still. giants visiting diamondbacks in arizona bottom three former giant evan longoria with a solo homer to left has arizona goes on to win 7-5 and the a's a fans held a tomato throw at ownership pregame of the parking lot john fisher pelted with tomatoes the gays and rangers went to extras brent rooker three run walk off. good night game a 10nnings spors
