4:30 pm
the hedges were actually overseen by our asset liability committee and our finance committee. i have every reason to believe they were making the best decisions they could. becker pledged to cooperate with regulators, but declined to commit to returning the executive bonuses he received only hours before the bank collapsed. south carolina senator tim scott accused becker of a lack of judgment, saying he should not have been running the bank. the federal reserve's report stated that with respect to both liquidity and interest rate risk, your management team was more focused on chasing profitability than stability. sounds like greed. senators also used the hearing to address executive pay and whether senior execs are being rewarded more for short term gains than for insuring their companies long term health, artificial intelligence has exploded this year with things like chatgpt and computer generated videos.
4:31 pm
but with that comes new risks. the more we see, the more we won't know what to trust. even google's former ceo and chairman is voicing concerns. when you produce a fake video, which is going to happen a lot in this next cycle of elections. even if you tell people that it's fake, even if they know before they watch it, it changes their behavior. for reasons we don't fully understand. and so this is a case where the industry needs to do a little self-reflection and the government needs to be a bit more aggressive. and eric schmidt's calling on leaders in washington to figure out how to regulate ai content. but he says it's key to do that in a way that protects free speech for humans, but not for robots. a former apple engineer is facing federal charges on stealing trade secrets. a justice department strikeforce unsealed an indictment today against 35 year old wei bao wong, accusing him of stealing information used in autonomous systems, including cell driving cars and attempting to sell it to chinese companies.

authorities say wang fled to china shortly after the investigation began in 2018. he faces six felony counts and could receive ten years in prison if convicted. ferris they're a common sight in the bay, becoming a bigger part of our commute every day. and now that commute could become greener than ever. take a look at this. we're talking about going electric here. a european company has opened an office here in the bay area hoping to help lead the way. and as abc7 news anchor liz kreuz reports, they're building a zero emission ferry and you see how high this is. it essentially flies above the water. shall we? yeah. at first glance it blends in with the hundreds of other boats docked in sausalito. but the moment we hit the water, we realized part of what makes it so different, it's pretty quiet. it's very quiet. why it's fully electric. no combustion, no hydraulics. this is an electric boat produced by candela marine tech, a company based in
4:33 pm
stockholm with an office here in the bay area. veronica covearge is a project manager. so it basically is a boat that flies above the waves. our boat basically uses 80% less energy than a traditional a traditional speedboat would and the mission really is to help accelerate the transition to fossil fuel free waterways. riding around the bay was admittedly really cool. it's so smooth, but this is not actually the boat we came to talk about. candela is currently building a fully electric ferry seen in these renderings. it's a 40 foot catamaran that can hold up to 30 people. the hope is that it will eventually replace the bigger diesel fueled ferries we rode by today. the speed of these electric boats is a big part of this rightow minutes too to san francisco on golden gate ferry with an electric ferry. it takes half that and it can really allow for the waterways to become a bigger way to commute to and from anywhere in the bay. the push towards
4:34 pm
electric ferries is already underway. the agency that provides san francisco bay ferry service was recently awarded a nearly $14 million grant from the state to help electrify bay area ferry terminals. candela says the city of stockholm has plans to test their ferry later this year. after that, they hope to be in the bay area for us it made a lot of sense to be based here and to be based in communities that take water and take sustainability seriously in a lot of ways. in sausalito, liz kreutzer, abc seven news. that looks really cool from chocolate milk to taco tuesday, it's a food fight. coming up next on the forward.

4:38 pm
much more than that. some cities have paid. and, you know, i guess what we reported at the time and when you look at it a little more closely, you realize, well, it's more complicated than than that. you know, it's not like a trash can at our house that we can just stick outside. you have to be concerned about animals getting into it. protect trying to keep people from walking off with them. people suing the city if there's any injuries related to them, trying to keep homeless folks from from getting inside them, making them safe. so you can't put any kind of device inside. i mean, it's much more complicated. they do seem vastly overpriced. but it's not just going to home depot and buying a trash can. this is why i can't ever work in government, because if i walk in and go, are we going to talk about the trash can again? is this what we're going to do? and that is a lot of government talking about that kind of stuff thousandth meeting on this. get a big piece of concrete that nobody can move and make the slat like this big. so you can't what we're done and we're done. i'm on to the next. and it wouldn't be esthetically

pleasing. larry, i'll let you pick. you can pick the design of the grade school cafeterias. could soon be dumping chocolate milk. the department of agriculture is considering a ban because of the added sugars in flavored milk, and some believe it's contributing to rising levels of childhood obesity. others say taking chocolate milk off the menu could lead to kids drinking less milk in general and then missing out on the health benefits. i guess we're talking about calcium here. sandy you have young children that are still going to school. so what's your take on milk chocolate, milk? what do you what do you think is the right better for the children, including mine. but, larry, i mean, there will be a lot of disappointed kids because my kids love chocolate milk as well, even though they're a little bit older and can get around with just drinking the plain milk. i think that it's going to be a tough one because they do need their calcium. their bones are growing at this age. and i think that it's important that they offer options. i believe there's something called bournvita, which is less sugar. maybe that
4:40 pm
could be an option for schools. maybe. but i'm good with chocolate milk. yeah, right. i think if you offer an option that the kids will opt for drinking milk is good for them. and as you guys know, chocolate milk is a good recovery drink for athletes because it gives you the protein and the carbs. yeah, that's true. i'm good with it as well. just in moderation. you know, it's not going to hurt a child every day to have a little chocolate milk. yeah, but what about a little taco? taco bell is fixing for a fight over taco tuesday. the fast food chain has filed a petition asking to cancel the trademark, which is currently owned by wyoming chain called taco john's. taco bell says the commonly used phrase should be, quote, freely available to all who make, sell, eat and celebrate tacos. thoughts, larry , i thought lebron james had applied for the trademark to use taco tuesday and was rebuffed and rebuked and rejected. oh, that's i'm projecting here from the warrior series. but i didn't realize that this chain in wyoming had it. taco so what dan

let's let's trademark french fry friday, okay? you and me, right? i mean, well chris you guys can come along too. but the four of us. that's right. what do you think? can we own french fry friday? right. and why should we get to own it? it doesn't feel right. it's just common usage. i mean, right, right. if i say dan the man, do i have to pay somebody a dollar to say, dan, man, you have to pay me. yeah there are only so many iterations you can get. i mean, tasty tacos, taco tuesday, it's like, i guess if it's trademarked, if you can. but you know, there's specific laws you can't trademark. there are a lot of things you can't trademark, like a title to something, you know, a book title or a movie title or a song title. you can't really trademark. i don't know. it's yeah, i agree with that. it's common, i guess these guys have had it for 30 years or something, but all right. do you tip when using a self service kiosk? what would you even tip? they're becoming more common though. the self checkout machines. you see them at
4:42 pm
airports, the coffee shops, restaurants, stadiums. my daughter was at the airport. a robot made her coffee. many are programed to accept tips, but there's no guarantee the money's going to go to staff or generate more revenue for the business. so some say this could lead to tipping fatigue. i'm all for tipping a human. sandhya, what about you? i'm totally with you. what about the robot? at least if it's a human, you know that whoever waited on you or helped you out is getting the actual tip. but a kiosk i mean, now restaurants are starting to even charge just a flat tip of 20, maybe because they're realizing that not everyone tips at the same caliber. yeah, i'm out on the tipping a kiosk. i think i try to be a generous tipper. i truly do. and i'm usually very good about it. but i'm not tipping a machine. how about it? depends, though, larry. if it's just truly a robot is making your drink or if it's like you're ordering your boba via the kiosk, right. the pad, the
