ama: by the california. the deadly shooting of banko brown, a suspected has people rallying together, pushing fraction. good evening. dan: and city leaders alike. ama: we saw extra security in place at walgreen. london breed and bill scott both said they agreed with the decision to not file charges. dan: others want to see more done. ryan curry is in the newsroom tonight with the story. reporter: many supporters of brown and his family told us they are hurt by the das decision. they want her to reconsider. if she doesn't, they want the state attorney general to look into the case. community leaders and loved ones of banko brown gathered at the harvey milk club to share strong words about san francisco district attorney brooke jacobs. >> a preemptive refusal to

prosecute raises serious concerns about a -- accountability and the pursuit of justice. reporter: da jenkins announced that her office will not file charges against the security guard who shot brown following a confrontation over shoplifting. jenkins release this video from the store where it happened. she says the guard acted in self-defense and there's insufficient evidence for a criminal case. those at the gathering strongly disagreed. >> we need to hold this individual accountable. reporter: rounds chosen on asked us not to share her face due to safety concerns. she doesn't feel like the d.a. is representing all san francisco residents. >> for a person of color that she says she is and she's been in the community, it's like i can see my people but i don't hear her. that's what we need. reporter: london breed defended jenkins decision. >> it's a real tragedy.

at the end of the day, the district attorney did everything she could to look at the evidence and make a decision based on what the evidence demonstrated. reporter: browns supporters are calling for the state to step in. they want bonta to look into the case. >> that's a travesty. death over candy should never happen in the city. we need an objective mechanism of how we prosecute cases. because justice has to be applied equally. reporter: rounds loved ones and others plan on holding a protest tomorrow outside the das office. members of the board of supervisors have requested the attorney general and doj to investigate this case. mayor breed said she would welcome an outside review. d.a. jenkins was unavailable for comment today. ryan curry, abc7news. ama: people who organize or take part in oakland sideshows could face criminal penalties.

oakland city council unanimously passed the legislation tonight. side stroke organizers and participants could face six months in jail or pay a $1000 fine. the law would not penalize any bystanders at the shows. officials say sideshows affect the city's infrastructure and often end in violence. dan: live look out tonight. after that warm weather, there are changes coming. sandhya patel is here with your 24 hour first forecast. sandhya: those changes will include cooler weather. i want to show you live pictures from our tower cameras. one thing you will notice, fog is creating murky views tonight. live doppler 7 tracking the fog along the coastline as we get you into the visibility and show you the local weather. watch out as we head toward tomorrow morning. here's the next 24 hours. 5:00, drizzle around.

temperatures in the 50's. toward the morning, the drizzle will still be around. fog is around in the afternoon. lou will arm you into the 80's. by 7:00, fog pushing up over the bay. temperatures dropping toward midnight thursday. stronger marine push. i will let you know if this cooling will continue through the weekend, coming right up. ama: looking at the issues are affecting your wallet day today. if you are driving into san francisco, get ready. san francisco will start enforcing the -- metered parking . it's a swift change that will affect every neighborhood in the city. the parking meter shift is in effect along the embarcadero and mission bay. from there, it will move in phases starting in july. j.r. stone shares the mixed emotions on more parking costs. >> it's maddening. i mean, to extend the parking

through until 10:00 at night just really makes it very difficult. reporter: anger among san francisco drivers like ray terry . tuesday, the sfmta will soon extend parking meter our citywide until 10:00 instead of the current 6:00. will also soon start enforcing metered parking from noon to 6:00 on sundays when it's now free in most areas. >> it's like every little thing is more and more and more. the city is in worse and worse shape. don't get me started. sorry. reporter: park letson bike lanes have taken away parking spots in recent years. now more meter enforcement. those with the fs mva are expecting $130 million just for sit by 2025 and say they must act. >> our estimate is that this would return $18.5 million in revenue. obviously not $130 million.

vision we need to ensure long-term functioning and resilience of our water system, considering the impacts of climate change with the option to make it happen. i support the proposed fee increases. >> i wish to speak against the regressive nature of your rate increases. they will hit hardest on those who use the least amount of water. ama: some people could see their bills go up by 20% with the first increasing coming to lifers. the rates will vary depending on each customers meter size. the money will go toward upgrading infrastructure. reporter: wildfire smoke turned the sky orange today in calgary. the city skyline was shrouded in smoke but you could still see the downtown area with that orange backdrop. dozens of wild are burning in western canada. the air quality is expected to improve tomorrow but it's not clear if the smoke is going to move out.

we remember this well. it brings back memories of that a pop -- apocalyptic sky that we woke up to in september of 2020. the wind and marine layer and smoke from wildfires combined to turn the sky orange. remember, it looked like we were living on mars. ama: it was so scary. martinez, a health advisory has been lifted after last week's mercury spill. the amtrak station was contaminated. crews have completed the cleanup and say they didn't attacked enough margins -- mercury to cause health concerns. they are still searching for the person who dumped the material. dan: pops of colorful chalk appearing on the state -- streets of oakland today. hundreds of students helped beautify the streets along their school near telegraph. is being called an art activism. the idea is to let students express their feelings outside of their classrooms and transform the vacant lot across the street by the end of the school year.

staff is hoping to create a bubble of security and positivity. >> the conditions have shifted as we've all seen. i now have a security guard accompanying every pe class. what they witness on the streets is not something i want young people to be exposed to. if people know it is a school zone, crime is less likely to happen. dan: the school plans to create a mixed-use community space with basketball courts and a performance amphitheater. a special reunion at san francisco international airport on monday for a bay area family. a mom and her children made it out of sedan after getting trapped when war broke out last month. ama: they live in san leandro. last year, they went back to the capital so the children could experience their home country and meet their family. the father later returned to the bay area for work. he felt powerless when the war started and considered all options. >> you feel like your hands are tied behind your back.

leader of san francisco's open ai which runs chat gpt. san altman warning that ai technology cannot fall into unregulated hands. the power of ai has been talked about at length. tonight on the heels of that historic testimony, lauren martinez is looking at the possible local effects of this new age. >> perhaps the biggest nightmare is the looming new industrial revolution. the displacement of million of workers. reporter: open ai ceo sam altman testified before congress about his company's chat bot tool jack dbt. congress said they failed to meet the moment to properly regulate social we need you. now they have an obligation to do it on ai. >> there will be an impact on jobs. we try to be clear about that. it will require partnership between the industry and government. mostly action by government. reporter: a path forward on the

his support for class actions lawsuit against wells fargo. the lawsuit accuses the denying loans to minority applicants at an unprecedented rate during the covid-19 pandemic. wells fargo is the nation's largest mortgage lender. it has denied the lawsuit claims and says it has a long-term commitment to closing the minority homeownership gap. ama: elizabeth -- dan: elizabeth holmes can't delay going to prison any longer. that motion denied today following the decision the judge also hit homes with a $452 million bill in restitution to the victims of her crimes. the jury convicted her last year in connection with misleading and defrauding investors about her blood testing technology. a judge will have to decide when the whole -- when she will have to report to prison to begin serving her sentence. ama: the urban peace movement

got up to 91 degrees in fairfield. 60 and half moon bay. it really felt like summer with the hotspots inland and cooler along the coast where you still have some marine influence. it's anything but cooler in the sierra where the epic snowpack is continuing to mount. tomorrow afternoon, 70's to 90's from tahoe to yosemite. thursday, still above average. 89 degrees. 88 on friday. with this kind of warmth, the concern is that snowpack, 332% of average, is going to melt. the merced river at yosemite valley is expected, it set flood stage but it's expected to go above 10 feet on saturday. 12.5 feet which would lead to flooding. there are flood advisories in effect for this area. flooding concerns continue.

smoke concerns are here. if you are traveling, let's take a look at the visible satellite picture. smoke traversing much northern tier states as we head toward the next couple days. keep that in mind if you are going to be outdoors over those days. you can see the fog down below p get temperatures will be dropping. areas of morning drizzle the next two days. it will be breezing and cooler into the weekend. fog not just near the coast but around the bag as well. inland areas still holding onto some of the warmth from earlier today. 50's along the coast line as we go hour-by-hour tomorrow morning. fog is all the way across the bay. drizzle shows up at 8:00. the roads will be slippery in some areas for the commute.
