gloria: do development's in the murder of tech executive bob lee. the defendant's attorney is calling the incident an act of self-defense. 38-year-old plead not guilty to charges yesterday in a san francisco courtroom. he is accused of stabbing lee to death april 4. authorities say it happened in a conversation over his sister. >> the defense combination of an accident and self-defense. >> it was an accident with three stab wounds? >> my defense is it accident with a cross between self-defense and an accident. there was no premeditation or delivered to 8 -- or deliberation. >> anyone capable of violently killing someone is a risk. we believe this is an intentional killing. gloria: the prosecution filed a

motion acting -- asking he be held without bail. it was granted. jobina: calls are going louder to invest in lifesaving services in the city. a local nonprofit is pushing for a safe consumption site. they are illegal under federal law but san francisco mayor london breed is supporting up using non-city funds to open a site. that is what is happening in new york city. matt dorsey visited safe consumption sites there earlier this year. >> we will move forward on this. the city cannot assume all the risk. we will have to look towards nonprofit partners. >> the more we wait, the more people die. jobina: according to the san francisco medical examiner, 268 people died of a accidental drug overdose in the first four months of this year. gloria: the chp has launched a statewide campaign warning of

the dangers of street racing and sideshows. yesterday the chp unveiled thrills that kill, and education and zero-tolerance enforcement campaign. displays featured crashed vehicles and billboards of people who have died in street racing and sideshow accidents. the chp announced task will be saturating cities to try to stop sideshows. >> these will be canvassing the street to prevent sideshows and street racing while looking for illegal modifications to vehicles. i would also like to ensure the public we hear your concerns and will continue focused enforcement efforts. gloria: officials announced governor newsom has approved $5.5 billion in funding for local and state agencies to crackdown on illegal racing and sideshows. jobina: oakland police are asking for your help as the 2022 murder of a popular restaurant owner remains unsolved. in a video of officers released

a blurry photo of someone they believe shot and killed the co-owner of lucky 37. the video also shows a photo of a car they believe is connected to the shooting. it is a black 2009 ford escape gloria: agreed to continue to pause involuntary transfers from san francisco's hospital until september. the hospital lost its eligibility for the federal medicare and medicaid last year because of health and safety violations. patient transfers were put on hold after several people had died soon after being removed from the hospital. the city says laguna honda is continuing to work towards recertification. jobina: in the south bay people are feeling thankful after a block party in downtown san jose brought the area back to life. people from san jose -- business owners tell us they are welcoming all the help they can get.
