spending cuts including clawing back unspent covid funds and imposing some federal work requirements on federal aid. a group of hard line conservatives are telling house speaker kevin mccarthy to stand by even deeper spending cuts say they will not accept a deal that's, quote, watered down. over in the senate, some say the president shouldn't be negotiating at all. the bottom line, the margins are so close, the consequences are dire and leaders on both sides are trying to avoid default. george? >> rachel scott, thank you very much. now to the work place shooting overnight at a factory in ohio. police are calling it a targeted attack. alex perez has the latest. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, michael. still a lot of unanswered questions at this point, but some moments of sheer panic last night after the gun man opened fire at the plant. overnight a deadly shooting at

this diesel engine factory outside dayton, ohio. emergency responders racing to the scene just before 9 p.m. after calls of an active shooter. >> there's multiple units there. >> there appears to have been male suspect who entered the plant. at this point it looks like a targeted attack against one male victim who has been pronounced deceased at the scene. >> reporter: a second victim, who suffered a gun shot wound, taken to the hospital. >> i got one black male. we will be transporting with serious injuries. >> reporter: employees were working on the floor when the gun man opened fire. during the chaotic evacuation, there were reports of injuries. >> we do know also of at least a couple other injuries unrelated to the shooting and may have been caused by the evacuation and ensuing chaos. >> reporter: the suspect, police say, now hospitalized after a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

they believe the suspect targeted the victim who was killed. an exact motive remains under investigation. michael? >> thank you. now to the newly released body camera video of the mass shooting in new mexico that left three people dead. mola lenghi joins us with the latest. good morning, mola. >> reporter: good morning, michael. these new images take you right into that terrifying shooting spree and the actions that police took to stop the threat. this morning chilling body camera video showing the harrowing moments police took down a gun man who killed three people and injured six others, including two officers in farmington, new mexico. the first rounds of the shooting spree heard on this phone's ring doorbell camera. within minutes, police responding to the chaos, rushing toward the gun fire. >> i have eyes on the suspect. he's walking south. he's wearing all black. >> reporter: police officers

exchanging fire, finally ending the threat. >> subject down! subject down! cease fire! cease fire! >> reporter: but not before the police sergeant was shot. >> i'm shot! >> reporter: ten year farmington police vet dropping to the ground. her fellow officers rushing to her side. she is now recovering at home. >> i am heart sick over this happening but on the other hand, i'm so proud of our officers and our department. >> reporter: while investigators focus on the suspect, victims' families grieve their losses. shirley boyd's family saying she was joyfully devoted to her family, friends, church and community. the world is a better place for the 79 years she was with us. mother and daughter gwen scofield saying she will continue to shape our lives with her wisdom, guidance, teaching. and melody, who owned a preschool for 40 years loved unconditionally all she met.

the six people who were injured including those two police officers have all been released from the hospital and are recovering. rebecca? >> all right, mola. thank you. we turn to the accused pentagon leaker facing a judge hoping to be released on bail. our senior investigative correspondent aaron katersky is at the courthouse in massachusetts. good morning, aaron. >> reporter: good morning, rebecca. his family is hoping jack texeira is going to walk out of this courthouse later today free on bail. federal prosecutors say releasing the air national guard phapbs accused of leaking america's defense secrets poses far too great a risk to public safety and national security. court records show texeira had been warned three times about deep diving into intelligence information but prosecutors say he shared such information in a social media group that included foreigners. appealing for his release, the defense cited other cases involving classified information

in which judges granted bail and urged the judge to consider texeira's peaceful reading of the bible before his arrest. prosecutors said that's not the real jack texeira, pointing to a video of him uttering racial and anti-semitic slurs before firing off a rifle. prosecutors said texeira has become skill and experienced at hiding these unsavory elements of his character. we'll see what happens here later today, michael. >> we will, aaron. thank you. we know you will be covering that for us. now we're going to turn to the unanimous ruling from the supreme court citing with google and twitter saying they are not liable for propaganda on their site. our chief justice correspondent pierre thomas is at the supreme court with the latest on this major decision. >> reporter: michael, good morning. it was a simple legal question. can social media giants like twitter, facebook and google be held liable for violent radical propaganda posted on their platforms? the families of those killed in terror attacks in istanbul in

2017 and paris in 2015 believe isis videos posted on twitter and google inspired those attacks and that those companies should be held accountable. but the supreme court said no in a unanimous decision. justice thomas writing the plaintiffs allegations are insufficient to establish that these defendants aided and abetted isis in carrying out the attacks. the families are obviously disappointed and so far have declined to comment. as for the tech companies, they have condemned the attacks and say they are trying to keep violent content off their sites. george? >> pierre thomas, thanks. the race for the white house now. florida governor ron desantis is expected to launch his bid for the republican nomination next week. chief washington correspondent jon karl has the latest. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, george. ron desantis is prepared to announce that he is running for president wednesday of next week in a private call yesterday, he told top donors the race already comes down to three people. him, joe biden and donald trump. he suggested on that call that

trump doesn't have a chance of winning. at least initially, ron desantis would enter the republican race as the most formidable challenger to donald trump. sources tell abc news he is expected to launch his campaign next week with an online video and a meeting with top donors in time before holding a kickoff event after memorial day, possibly in his home town, dunedin. desantis has made a name for himself as florida's brash and uncompromising governor. he's banned abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy and barred classroom discussion of gender and sexual orientation through high school, picking a legal fight with disney after it criticized the move. disney, the parent company of abc news, announced yesterday it has cancelled plans for a $1 billion new campus in the orlando area citing, quote, changing business conditions. a spokes person for desantis dismissed the move, saying the state was unsure whether it would come to fruition anyway. desantis faces some big challenges going up against

trump. he came in to office openly portraying himself as a trump clone. >> build a wall, then mr. trump said, you're fired. i love that part. >> reporter: trump has called him disloyal, nicknaming him ron disanctimonious. >> instead of being grateful he is attacking the man who saved his career. >> reporter: desantis already looked like a presidented shl candidate since he won his re-election by a 20 point land slide last november making frequent visits to early primary states. but he's already made some missteps including saying russia's invasion of ukraine wasn't vital to u.s. interests and stumbing during a trip overseas. >> i'm not a candidate so we'll see if and when that changes. >> reporter: the attacks from trump may be hard for desantis to fend off, but the mere fact that donald trump is hitting him so hard shows the former president clearly, at least now,

sees desantis as his biggest threat to the republican nomination. george? >> there are more challengers to come. jon karl, thank you very much. rebecca? >> george, thank you. we turn to the real estate market. home sales dropping again in april as home prices saw their biggest drop in more than a decade. whit johnson is here to break it down for us. so much interest in this since we're in the thick of the buying season. >> reporter: absolutely. good morning. there are some opposing forces in play here. after years of a seemingly endless rise, this latest report shows u.s. housing prices are beginning to ease off as the real estate market slows. overall, the median existing home price in april was down 1.7% from a year ago. while that may seem like a modest decline, the nar said it is the biggest yea drop since january 2012. but if you're a home buyer, it depends on where you live. the west saw the big drop in prices, down 8%. prices also down in the south. but in the northeast and midwest, the median price is still up year over year.

even with prices dropping, home sales are still down, too, dropping 3.4% from a month ago and more than 23% from last year. so what's happening here? economists tell us that supply remains tight coming out of the pandemic. people aren't moving as much, worried about high mortgage rates. prices might be down slightly, but anyone looking to buy won't have much to choose from. and there's still a lot of competition. guys? >> right. prices are down, but once you factor in the mortgage rate, still home affordability is a tough one. thank you, whit johnson. now to the nba playoffs. denver nuggets are two wins away from their first nba finals after beating the lakers in game 2. will reeve is here with the highlights and what's next. good morning, will. >> what's next? who knows? michael, that is why we watch sports. last night and all these playoffs sensational. that fourth quarter one of the most thrilling 12 minutes of basketball imaginable. the nuggets hadn't led since the first quarter. they come all the way back.

funeral. >> sam just has that glow. >> reporter: the grief still raw for eric hutchison. >> she's t type that walkshe in a room and you notice. >> reporter: now speaking exclusively to abc news in his first interview since losing his wife sam. the unimaginable tragedy on their wedding night three weeks ago. an alleged drunk driver crashing into them as they left their reception. >> i'm still trying to wrap my head around it. that night going from an all time high to an all time low. pretty rough to comprehend. >> the night of the wedding, what were your favorite parts of it? >> family. we had family, friends from all over the country, everywhere there. everyone was just so happy. she was so happy. >> one of the best nights of your life.

>> it was. it was. >> the newly weds set off by eit with family, but they never made it home. do you remember the crash happening at all? >> i don't. i wish i did. i do remember the last thing i remember her saying was she wanted the night to never end. >> that was the last thing she said to you? >> yes. >> just down the road from their reception, their golf cart hit by a car. hutchison, his brother-in-law benjamin and nephew were rushed to the hospital.

>> i remember waking up just kind of foggy, out of sorts. i could see my mom's face. you could just tell something was wrong. i asked her, where's sam? where's sam? that's when she told me there was an incident and that sam didn't make it. >> investigators say the driver of the vehicle, jamie lee komoroski was driving 65 miles per hour in a 25 hour zone at the time of the crash. according to the toxicology report, her blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. she's been charged with dui and reckless homicide. is there anything you'd say to the driver? >> no. i can't right now. she stole something.

she just -- she stole an amazing human being that should not have been taken. >> on wednesday, hutchison filing a wrongful death lawsuit against komoroski and several bars she allegedly drank the night of the crash. her employer and supervisor also sued accused of pressuring her to attend a function and consume excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages that night. her employer saying in a statement there was no official organized employee function around drinking and komoroski had just started training for the job. >> this is a case about protecting communities from drunk driving. when someone is served in excess and then allowed to leave and get in the car is not responsible. they'll have to be accountable for that. >> for now, hutchison is taking it day by day focusing in part on his recovery while trying to hold on to his happy memories with sam and the things that remind him of her.

back home in the third floor apartment the two shared, he said he still feels her presence. is it hard to be back here? >> it's hard, but it's also nice. it's got sam written all over the house. it's nice to be here and have good memories. >> eric has two broken legs, broken bones in his face and back, among other injuries. he's had multiple surgeries already. he told me he agreed to do the interview because he wanted people to know the sam that he fell in love with. >> we are getting to know her from his words. just that heart ache, we're thinking about all of them. eva pilgrim, thank you very much. okay. we turn now to the california dermatologist accused of trying to poison her husband with drain cleaner. arrested after her husband set up secret cameras. she's pleaded not guilty.

our chief national correspondent matt gutman has the very latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, rebecca. that dermatologist, who is also a mother, appearing in that orange county courthouse for a arraignment pleading not guilty. her lawyers say she did not intentionally try to poison her husband, but that he had set her up during their brutally contentious divorce battle. this morning the california dermatologist accused of trying to poison her husband with a liquid drain cleaner pleading not guilty to multiple felony charges. authorities say these images show dr. yu pouring a drain o like substance into her husband's tea multiple times last summer, quote, intending to cause him pain and suffering. >> everybody thought the video was a smoking gun. what was missing initially is why she poured the drain o in the cup. >> her defense team claiming it was her estranged husband who tried to set her up. >> jack chen was the person who

told emily yu to put drain o into the cup to kill the ants. he then sets her up after he knows that she's gonna do that. he sets up what he calls spy cameras to capture her pouring the drain o into the tea. >> reporter: these images capturing his wife, dr. yu pouring the substance on at least three separate occasion. the door sayinwomalc heg feuf frstritis. amidst a contentious divorce and custody battle, dr. chen's legal team saying their client has been a victim of domestic violence by dr. yu for nine years. >> at the original indictment, one attorney had claimed the reason for pouring the drain o was to fix the pipe, the plumbing. we're not supposed to believe this? we're not supposed to believe our lying eyes, is that what she's saying? >> reporter: the 45-year-old dermatologist who is still practicing medicine, faces multiple felony counts of

weight gain, teresa says she's adopted much healthier habits. >> i started working out five days a week. you have to be mindful of staying with what you've done and not slipping back to old habits. absolutely, people can get off of it. i wouldn't be scared to get off of it. >> reporter: for good morning america, becky worley, abc news, oakland, california. >> thanks to becky worley for that. doctors also tell us this type of rapid weight loss can cause a decline in muscle mass which is major factor when it comes to keeping the weight off. so if you are taking these drugs, or you're thinking about taking them, talk to your doctor about keeping up your strength training and protein consumption. of course, we have our own doctor, our wonderful dr. jen ashton, our medical correspondent here, to break this all down. you are managing patients who are on these medications right now. so talk about that concern. what do people need to know when they get off these drugs? >> first of all because i'm board certified in obesity medicine, i think this is getting kind of a bad wrap in our lay public because people

think it's a trend or a fad. we've known that this class of medication, along with other fda approved weight loss medications, has worked very, very well and it's been used off label for almost a decade, if not longer. as we heard in the piece by dr. ironi, this is not candy. this is not like treating strep throat. when pplcome o a medication that they need to treat a chronic condition, which the conditions of overweight and obesity are, of course rebound weight gain is possible, if not likely. so while this isn't a standard algorithm or protocol for doctors managing patients like this. what we'll often say is, let's try to get you to your target healthy goal weight and then basic principle of farm pharmacology. if you need to drop the dose and expand the frequency to take it maybe once a month, once every other week. the key is keeping you at that healthy weight in the safest way we can do it.

construction of the screenplay until it was all together, i was a little resistant. when i saw the product, which is different to every process that's yet been attempted, i was convinced that it was so real because it is real. i mean, that is my face 35 years ago. it's not a photo shop kind of process. lucas film actually has a library of every foot of film exposed on me during my time with them, lucas film, which is significant. and they're able to mine that with artificial intelligence to come up with the right angle and the light coming from the right direction. i acted the scenes with balls on my face, as it were. please.

it's called stiff persons syndrome. and this morning, her mom is sharing how she was finally diagnosed and how she got the treatment she needed. erielle reshef has that story. ♪ and i know that my heart will go on ♪ >> reporter: what does international megastar celine dion have in common with haley dunk from illinois? this was alie just over a year ago after an on set of aggressive symptoms that left doctors seeking answers, sending her mom on a mission to find out what was wrong. >> she did not know us. she was seeing things. >> reporter: it started after jaw surgery and only got worse. seizure, hallucinations and tics became life altering, body parts freezing in place. >> i feel stupid. >> yeah. >> reporter: talking and walking became difficult. >> is that hard? >> reporter: alie's behavior sometimes psychotic.

>> this was not my child any more. it was like she wasn't even in there. >> reporter: alie was actually suffering from stiff person syndrome a rare disorder diagnosed in 1 in 1 million people brought to life by celine dion, who was diagnosed in 2022. with symptoms like painful muscle spasms and stiffness, but that wasn't the entire story. a friend said alie's symptoms reminded him of a movie called brain on fire. >> her mri is normal. her neurological exam is normal. it's all normal. >> reporter: the true story of a young woman who had strange psychotic episodes and seizures, eventually diagnosed as autoimmune encephalitis where the body's immune system attacks the brain. >> it was that story almost to a t. and so i thought, okay, what do i have to lose? i'm calling those doctors from that movie. i begged. i said, please. just see my child. >> reporter: they agreed and alie arrived at lennox hill hospital in a wheelchair where, on a hunch, the doctor treated
