for more help from the leaders here and he has got it. ukrainian president vladar zelenskyy arriving in hiroshima today getting a red carpet greeting from japanese officials. and bolstered by president biden's decision to allow ukrainian pilots to be trained at american made f-16 fighter jets. a major reversal for biden after he resisted zelenskyy's pleas for months. as united selipsky tweeted, peace will become closer today. he is here to speak directly with summit leaders in a critical moment in the war on the eve of the expected ukraine encounter effect. dolinsky joined the some of that is being held at the side of the first atomic bombing, even while he faces nuclear threats from russia. and now he will have american f-16s to strengthen his forces. biden informing the g7 allies that the united states has agreed to the training of the ukrainian pilots after several allies publicly supported the idea.

footage of the highly contested city, russian troops controlling most land but the ukraine taking more ground to the north and south. such a critical time in the war. u.s. announcement the f-16 fighter jets, and nobody is a to ukraine by america's allies is a major morale boost for ukraine in forces. it is almost certain those jets will not arrive in time for a much bigger ukrainian offensive promised soon. pilots need training practice, logistics. so it will probably take months for them to arrive. control of the skies overhead is crucial for ukraine's long-term security as a senior russian official warning of "colossal risks the west supplies ukraine with f-16." >> janai: less than two weeks ago, until the u.s. may not be able to pay its bills. something that could ignite a catastrophe, putting potentially millions out of work and talks on the debt ceiling between the

white house and congressional a public -- republicans appear to be going nowhere. abc's elizabeth schulze joins us. good morning to you. >> reporter: negotiations over a deal to raise the debt limit are back on after a pause but still no breakthrough. late last night, negotiators from the white house and house doorblicans met here one key gop lawmer calling it a candid discussion after talks briefly broke down earlier in the day. sources tell us that federal spending cuts are key sticking points but house republicans want steep budget cuts in exchange for raising the debt limit and demand, the white house is blasting. other issues include unspent covid relief funds and new work report -- work requirements on federal programs like food stamps. president biden says he is not concerned about the text but time is running out. house speaker kevin mccarthy has said that a deal needs to be needs to be reached this weekend to pass legislation to the house and the senate before june 1st.
