was taken to the hospital. it all happened just before 11:00 on the east side of san jose on allen rock in north capitol. you can see the damage to the driver's side door of the police suv. a 5.5 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of humboldt county today. the usgs reported the quake was centered off the coast near eureka. there was not a threat of tsunami and no serious injuries reported. too strong quakes have shaken humboldt county in the past six months. a 5.4 quake rattled the town in january and a 6.4 caused damage in ferndale in december. speaking of, that earthquake is blamed for two deaths. 30 homes were red tagged, grocery stores and other buildings sustained major damage . that shaker plunged most of the county into the dark and knocked out water service to some communities. taking a live look from our

bay area to hawaii. flight departed from the santa rosa airport and was bound for honolulu. it crashed 20 miles from san francisco. a flight tracker site shows the planes path. and the attempted return and crash location. based on per luminary information. the coast guard says the plane reported a fuel transfer problem and tried to turn around. 10 people were killed and nine others wounded after a shooting during a car rally in baja california. police say people armed with rifles got out of at least two grave and and started shooting at customers at a gthe aunlded r 2:00 yesterday afternoon. the gunmen were able to escape. no reports of arrest and the state attorney general ordered a special group to investigate the massacre. developing news -- out of our nations capital on the looming june 1 debt ceiling deadline.

elizabeth schulze he tells us president biden cut short his trip to the g7 summit in japan to focus on the talks. >> i believe it was a productive phone call. >> negotiations to raise the nation's debt limit are back on. house speaker kevin mccarthy striking an optimistic tone after speaking on the phone with president biden. he says he will meet with the president at the white house monday afternoon without the other congressional leaders. >> i think we can solve some of these problems if he understands what we are looking at. >> key issues include government spending cuts, unspent covert relief funds and new work requirements for federal aid programs. the president and mccarthy will meet with just 10 days until the government could run out of cash on june 1. the bills do that they include 47 billion dollars for medicare, $12 billion for veterans benefits and 12 billion dollars for military pay and retirement. mccarthy reiterated republicans will not raise taxes, adding

dion: yosemite national park's most popular hiking trail will be getting a $5 million upgrade according to the mercury news. officials say the miss trail project will make the seven mile round-trip safer and more enjoyable. plans call for rebuilding a pedestrian bridge, building a new observation deck and improving railings. the popular trail begins near happy aisles and takes hikers along the merced river and over both the vernal falls and nevada falls areas. construction is slated to begin in 2000 25. the 49ers have a new rival in the south bay. they took on the san jose police department in a communicative ballgame. it was held to raise money for scholarships and several 49ers took part, including trey lance. fans were able to
