>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. >> fights. this was just one from saturday's contra costa county fair. tonight we are getting the reaction and witness accounts of what exactly set off the chaos and led to the closure of the fair. good evening. you are watching abc seven news at 11:00. the contra costa county fair made new safety adjustments for the final day of the fair. abc seven news reporter ryan curry was there tonight and spoke with witnesses who say saturday was the worst day of the fair they have ever seen. ryan: this is the moment two groups of teenagers got into a confrontation at the fair. moments later, a large fight went out. >> two

everyone was piled on top of everybody. ryan: this vendor travels across the country to do county fairs. she says multiple fights broke out on saturday. according to one of the vendors we spoke with, one of the fights broke out in this grassy area, prompting attractions to close, which eventually led to the entire fair closing early. >> they tore up the ride over there pretty bad. they stole a bunch of stock. i got some of it back, though. ryan: on sunday, the county fair implemented new safety measures. they posted the message on social media saying they want to ensure the fair remains a safe environment for all families and friends together. for the last day of the contra costa county fair on may 21, we are implementing a new policy. any minor needs to be a comp the -- accompanied by a parent or

about heavy police activity in downtown redwood city. you are looking at video from the scene. first calls came in before 8:30 tonight near broadway and middlefield road right by the cinemark theaters. you can imagine how busy it is on a sunday evening and we are pushing to get more information from police. we will let you know as soon as we learn more. let's get to the new details we are learning about the busy day at sfo. you are taking a live look at the airport tarmac and as we close in on the memorial day travel weekend, we saw hundreds of people dealing with their own travel nightmare today as parts of terminal two were on lock down evacuated. of -- a spotted. it turned out to be baggage with no harm, but as j.r. stone found out, there were plenty of headaches to go around. j.r.: this front area of sfo's terminal two

early afternoon. people were everywhere as the terminal went under lockdown due to an unattended item in the food court area. frustration as passengers waited. >> i waited in one spot over two hours. j.r.: that from bonnie posey who is trying to get to spokane but kept thinking about that knee replacement she needs as she stood there. >> they could not have informed us a bit and they could have helped the ones that needed to be there, their flights earlier, brought them up front so they got. to their flights on time. j.r.: the massive crowds of people were outside too. patrick sharp this cellphone video outside terminal two. >> i have been to a lot of places and i have never been at a lockdown like this. it was pretty scary. obviously everybody pulled through. j.r.: it took authorities two to

three hours to clear terminal two of any threat. some say they were left in the dark. >> just that there was a security issue and that is all that we know. j.r.: those with sfo say the bag in question was luggage and no longer deemed a threat two hours and 25 minutes later. they tell us at least 36 flights were delayed and at least four canceled. the security scare comes days away from what is expected to be a very busy memorial weekend. some say that busy week is already underway. >> this is the preview weekend and all of the schools are getting out. this is like the pre-summer travel time. >> also my granddaughter is on the other side in vegas waiting on us to come to her graduation, so she is crying thinking we are not going to end up making it. j.r.: most did end up flying, but bonnie missed her flight by 20 minutes and we'll try again

come monday. >> i am not going to prolong my -- at least if i go back to my sister and lock -- my sister-in-law, i get to relax. dion: to the south bay, san jose police investigating a deadly crash involving multiple vehicles. we first got word at 1:30 today at the intersection of fruitdale and leigh avenue this afternoon. one of the cars flipped and both ended up nearly on the sidewalk. it is unclear from police who was in what car, but sj pd says one driver was killed and the other seriously injured. two other passengers were also seriously hurt. a magnitude five point five earthquake rattled off the coast of northern california today. the usgs reports the quake was centered in the pacific near neri eureka -- near eureka. there were no damages or injuries. two earthquakes have shaken

building a fully electric ferry. it can hold up to 30 people. the hope is that it will eventually replace the bigger diesel fueled ferries we rode today. the speed of electric boats is a big part of this. right now it takes 30 minutes to get from sausalito to san francisco. with an electric ferry could -- ferry, it will take half of that. the push toward electric ferries is already underway. one group was awarded $45,000 in grant from the state to begin building. after this year, the company hopes to be in the bay area. >> it makes sense to be based in communities that take water and sustainability seriously in a lot of ways. dion:
