rip currents to watch out for. washington, where the clock is ticking over the holiday weekend towards a potential u.s. government default with a new deadline on june 5th. negotiators are working through the weekend trying to strike a deal over the debt ceiling. abc's elizabeth schulze joins us now from the white house the white house. >> president biden then g.o.p. lawmakers are striking an optimistic tone saying negotiators are on the brink of a deal to allow the u.s. government to keep paying its bills. the timeline to avoid an economic disaster is still tig tight. this morning with a new deadline of june 5th before the u.s. runs out of cash, president biden

says a deal to raise the debt ceiling is imminent. >> things are looking good. very optimistic. >> days of finger pointing and deadlocked. i thought g.o.p. negotiator also sounding update. >> the president is saying those things tells me his white house team, you know, might be in a better disposition than what we have seen in previous days. >> a possible deal would limit government spending. and raise the nation's borrowing limit krause the 2024 presidential election. late friday, janet yellen bought negotiators a little time. telling congress, the government will run out of money to pay its bills june 5th. after previously morning at default can happen as soon as june 1st. that means veterans like 62-year-old cecelia tile who are scheduled to get v will be paid. >> i think everyone is. >> the u.s. will still have

>> it is a possibility. if the u.s. cannot pay its bills on time, economist warned the effects will be felt far and wide. not only could it mean a delay in payments to social security, beneficiaries, military personnel and federal employees, but the u.s. credit rating would most certainly be downgraded sending interest rates soaring and making it more expensive to finance a home, a car, or pay off credit card debt. the damage was largely depend on how much the impasse last. the default runs about a week, close to 1 million jobs would be lost for the unemployment rate would jump to 5% from its current 3.4%. experts agree your best defense against the potential u.s. default is to have your own financial house in order. that includes limiting your spending, focusing on paying down debt. making sure you have a budget and showing up emergency savings to cover at least three months of living expenses. while stocks rose sharply yesterday in hopes of a deal from a default would most likely send the market into a tailspin.

struggling after recently losing his job a terrifying scene captured on video on social media. passengers holding on for dear life as wind ripped through the cabin. south korean officials say the man opened the door right after the captain said the plane was about to land. some 850 feet above ground. >> and cruising altitude, there's enough pressure inside the cabin that it pushes the door against the whole of the airplane. as the airplane descendants, the pressure begins to equalize. be when the plane landing safely with the door still open. 194 passengers on board surviving, about 12 of them were rushed to the hospital after experiencing breathing problems. >> the effect of this happened at very low altitude just prior to touchdown means everyone should have been belted in. no one was going to get sucked out of the airplane. the person who opened the door certainly was in danger of falling out. >> just incredible. the investigation is still underway. authorities say that passenger

18-year prison serious. we will south carolina judge is temporarily blocked a newly enacted 6-week abortion ban until the state supreme court can weigh in. this comes just 24 hours after the state's governor signed a controversial measure into law. the new law banned abortions after about six weeks which is before many women know they are pregnant. >> and south carolina, surveillance video cutting a tanker truck rod citing a school bus filled with children. just seconds after the bus pulled away from a stop sign in lexington county. 17 students and one adult were injured and taken to the hospital. police are investigating the crash. >> we do start this half-hour with a lawsuit filed against walgreens and with other security guards who shot alleged shoplifter. here with more on that story. zohreen shah, good morning. >> in that lawsuit, the parents say the apparent shoplifting was the spark and that the security guard anthony was on edge.

they are now suing and pushing for criminal charges. this morning, the parents with a 24-year-old seen in the surveillance video wrestling with the security guard at a walgreens are now suing after the san francisco san francisco district attorney declined to charge the card. citing insufficient evidence. >> i am still in stock and still hard to believe. >> one month after dying. according to police, the video shows the security guard michael anthony trying to stop the 24-year-old from stealing. prosecutors st. anthony told investigators that he spit on him and repeatedly threatened to stab him. anthony says brown turned and lunged toward him. officials say he shot brown in the chest. >> defense reasons. i felt like i was in danger. >> brown's parents devastated. >> it is very hard. >> it is just horrible.

state and local authorities stepping up the use of drones to keep an eye out for sharks and other potential hazards. abc's jaclyn lee is back with more from long beach new york. >> these drones are the real deal. they include thermal imaging and 4k cameras. crystal clear images. emphasizing safety in the water this holiday. this memorial day weekend, it is scary encounters like these making eyes in the skies, drones, all the more necessary. water rescue teams across the country increasingly turning to drones for a bird's-eye view to help the patrol beaches for sharks, recurrence and swimmers in distress. marine experts and lifeguards using drones up and down the coast to verify settings and track shock movement. >> if there's a shark in the area, we communicate that visual sighting of a shark to the lifeguard. the lifeguard would then go into their protocols of warning by
