doesn't seem the way it should be. cornell: lisa knows the slogan like a good neighbor, state farm is there, but she wonders how true that is after the company announced it will no longer ensuring new homes and properties in california due to wildfire risk and rebuilding costs. existing customers like lisa will not be affected. she and her family spent the last five years rebuilding the home they lost in the 2017 tubbs fire. the house is complete but lisa worries about others moving to the area thing to ensure their homes or businesses. >> insurance is when things go wrong and fire is something going wrong. when you want to ensure in california, one of the biggest areas they ensure, you should have to ensure everyone in california. cornell: state farm auto policies will remain the same. the company made the decision due to increases in historic -- increases in construction cost

dion: developing news out of washington, key negotiators are at work trying to hammer out a deal to prevent a government default on its bills. president biden and speaker kevin mccarthy are scheduled to have a phone call today to discuss. the debt ceiling deadline is june 5. negotiators say a short list of tough items remain and a deal is hours or days away. among those negotiators, republican congressman patrick mchenry who said he worked until 2:30 this morning. >> we have had a long list for a long time. what i didn't anticipate was we would have a shortlist for a long time. dion: default could cause severe hardship to american families. millions of jobs could be lost. troops would not be paid. and social security payments would halt. we want to tell you about several shootings across the east bay, three killed and three injured in less than 24 hours.

the most recent at 11:30 this morning at the valero station on macarthur boulevard. the men was found shot inside the car and died at the hospital. no arres ithis case. four other shoot in oakland within four hours last night. the locations are on thi map. aeet in the laurel neighborhood turns deadl the other three were in woodland, melrose, and chinatow. officers belne of the victims was struck by a stray . one was shot in a parked car and another during an argument. lisa made an arrest in that case. in emeryville, police are investigating a shooting that turned deadly near 41st street and san pablo avenue just after 11:30 last night, not far from the oaks card club. police say an officer heard gunshots and found a man shot multiple times. no arrests.

involved. officers arrested the person who tried to run from the scene. a bart custodial worker is recovering from a stabbing that happened just before 8:00 last night inside the mission 24th street station. the victim suffered a cut on his shoulder from what is believed to be a pocketknife. a bart spokesperson says the suspect was part of a larger group that caused a disturbance. police have not made any arrests. part of the valeo city hall will be closed some of next week because of a covert outbreak. the city says the planning and development services counter will be shut down through thursday because of low staffing. the rest of city hall will be open after memorial day on monday. officials say online and television -- telephone services may also be delayed. many events are planned on monday to honor the men and women who died in the military. that includes one at the san francisco national cemetery.

today boy scouts planted flags at 30,000 headstones for the soldiers, family members, and notable figures laid to rest. monday's ceremony starts at 11:00 and will include a band concert and flyover by the coast guard air station in san francisco. in the east, volunteers prepared the lafayette hillside memorial for a vigil on monday. the east bay congressman mark desaulnier will speak during the service. that memorial was created in 2006 by a group who decided to build a tribute for those dying in iraq. taking a live look at san francisco international airport, which like airports across the country is very busy this weekend. the tsa says about 2.7 million passengers were screened at airports friday alone, up slightly from thursday's 2.6 million. the tsa expects to screen 10 million passengers total this weekend.

carnaval is underway in san francisco. the party is happening in the mission district and harrison street 16th and 24th street is closed off. expect live music, food, drinks, and more. this is the 45th carnaval celebration in san francisco and organizers say it is the largest will die cultural festival on the west coast. >> we have been the melting pot. i am a native born in the mission district. i grew up with filipinos, samoans, blacks, every kind of latino. that's the most beautiful thing carnaval does, showcases that once a year, the diversity and unity that we have. dion: a celebration of lots of cultures. the parade is tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. beginning at 24th and harrison street's. the highest-ranking female official in u.s. history has made history again.

dion: vice-president, harris became the first person in west point's 200 21 year history to deliver a commencement speech. vp harris: you sta broad shoulders of generations of americans who have worn the uniform. dion: she warned graduates that they were in an increasingly unsettled world where long-standing principles are at risk. in the history making speech, harris discussed themes of global security and prosperity, arguing that america's democratic ideals inspire billions. workers are getting ready to reopen the golden gate bridge parking lot, which are now closed to cars most of the day on weekends to reduce traffic congestion. today was the first day of closures, which will last through october 8. parking lots at the welcome center and vista point are closed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00

dion: today we mark asian american and pacific islander heritage month with a look at a first of its kind festival in fremont. multiple asian american nonprofits banded together to celebrate the diverse fremont community at the first ever asian heritage festival day at the downtown event center. in addition to performances, vendors showcased food, arts, and crafts. the festival was started by a hindu cardiologist who wanted to unite his community with chinese, japanese, and all asian cultures. also today, the start of a three-day pop up to celebrate ukrainian arts and crafts.

the pop up take place at myrtle heights four chicken gallery. the event will highlight a range of jewelry and handmade goods. one of the goals is to connect ukrainian culture with the people in the bay area. >> we brought traditional ukrainian folk artists to san francisco. it's important to us that during the war we stay connected. we spend a lot of time thinking about ukraine and watching the news but we want to connect with people in america who support us. dion: festivities included a listening party, auction, and community healing circle. the pop-up features craft workshops for all ages. moving to the weather, i have to address this because you were stuck in this a long time. >> under ideal driving conditions, a half hour drive, today was an hour and 40 minutes.
