amanda del castillo yo, abc 7 news. julian: in the battle against the drug overdose crisis, safe injection sites could be a reality. the mayor confirmed there will be room at her upcoming budget for wellness hubs, paving the way for nonprofits to open privately funding sites. these are illegal under federal law but the mayor believes the new york city model could provide a path forward, using private donations to operate the specific space where drugs are used, not city dollars, making the city less liable. >> we are looking at receiving funds for older wraparound services. the city will not help us with the actual overdosed prevention site. that will be privately funded. julian: she estimates the city's portion of the wellness hubs will cost about 3.5 million dollars a year. the mayor is planning to open up to three sites in the next two years. kumasi: elizabeth
