to be inside the building's demolition is now on hold amid concerns another collapse is imminent. this morning, authorities fear a partially collapsed apartment building in iowa could come crashing down at any moment as family members demand to know why the city cleared the building for demolition. even with some tenants still unaccounted for. five members. officials plan to bring down the building yesterday morning, saying search with dogs, drones and thermal imaging showed no signs of life. i have no now no known individuals that are trapped in that facility, she is alive, but just before the demolition was set to begin, lisa brooks, appear at a fourth floor window rescue hours then pulled brooks to safety. more than 24 hours after the collapse in a new interview, her great granddaughter says brooks was hiding in an apparent attempt to stay safe from the collapsing building. i was just so afraid

made that i was going to die and don't see my kids and my grandkids. and why wasn't she found earlier? i am totally transparent with you. i do not know. now, city officials are looking at how to safely conduct another search as five tenants are still unaccounted for. we're very sympathetic to the possibility that there's two people that there's two people still left inside. ryan hitchcock's family says it is unlikely he survived the collapse. ryan wouldn't want anyone else to put their lives at risk to do. unfortunately be somebody who. probably has not survived in brandon colvin's family also believes he is still in the building, saying his apartment is now visible from the street. and up there where you see those clothes hanging neatly, that was his apartment. knowing that the city was considering demolishing this as

early as today, it's like burying them there. there is currently no scheduled time to demolish the building. officials promise a thorough investigation into what caused it. florida governor ron desantis held his first campaign event last night since entering the 2024 race for the white house. he addressed a crowd at an evangelical church in iowa, saying the country is going in the wrong direction and taking aim at president biden. desantis also fired shots at former president trump in a follow up news conference, the former is now attacking me, saying that cuomo did better handling covid than florida did . i can tell you this, i could count the number of republicans in this country on my hands that would rather have lived in new york under cuomo than that lived in florida in our freedom zone. in response, trump's campaign called desantis trip to iowa a failure. house lawmakers are expected to vote today on that

critical bill to raise the debt limit and avert a historic default vote. the measure cleared a major hurdle last night despite opposition from both the right and the left. abc's justin finch joins us now with the latest from washington. good morning, justin. good morning, rihanna. the debt ceiling compromise is eked through the house rules committee with a 7 to 6 vote with two republicans and all four democrats voting no. the bill's next test expected tonight with the threat of default looming and hours before the debt limit deal brokered by the president and house speaker faces a pivotal vote. many progressives, including me, lean no, not one republican, should vote for this deal. not one on many progressive democrat and conservative republicans are coming out against the deal, each accusing their leadership of making too many concessions. still, the republican led house rules committee cleared the measure for a floor vote. all those in favor signify by saying aye. aye, aye, aye. all those

opposed say no, no. the opinion of the chair. the ayes have it. the bill calls for suspending the debt ceiling until january 20th, 25, clawing back $30 billion in covid relief, rescinding $20 billion in irs funding, ending the federal student loan repayment freeze in august and adding new work requirements for some americans on food assistance, ice, the white house and house republican leaders now sprinting to stir up support our senior team made individual calls to all house democratic leadership members from all across the conference shared their support for this important bill in the senate. though top leaders chuck schumer and mitch mcconnell are backing the deal. there are breaks in the ranks. i have a lot of concerns about this agreement. it's about taking food away from people who are hungry. i think the biden mccarthy debt deal is a disaster for the country. a final house vote is expected later tonight. the bill needs

218 votes to pass, so look for the white house and congressional republican leaders alike to continue whipping up votes until the last minute. rhiannon all right, justin, thank you. north korea is acknowledging a major setback, a failed attempt to put what's believed to be its first spy satellite into space. us officials are calling it a huge embarrassment for kim jong un, saying the rocket carrying the satellite essentially blew up in the air and plunged into the water as abc's martha raddatz tells us, neighboring nations were rattled. the japanese government sent warnings that north korea may have launched a test missile and urged people in okinawa to take shelter immediately. the us embassy in japan repeated those warnings in seoul, south korea, warnings were given over public address systems and phones, telling people to evacuate, but later said that was sent in error. and so far no reports of damages or disruption. north korea is

vowing to find out what went wrong and conduct a second satellite launch soon. new pictures show south korea's military retrieving parts of the satellite from the sea. now to a close call over the south china sea. a chinese fighter jet came within 400ft of a us reconnaissance plane, forcing it to bounce through turbulence. the us is calling it an unnecessarily aggressive maneuver. it's the latest in an alarming increase in confrontations with chinese aircraft. a missing tennessee mother has been found. new mexico officials announced last night that nikki alcaraz is safe . she and her boyfriend vanished as they traveled cross country to california. they had not been seen since an apparent domestic dispute early last month. a break came when an image emerged of the pair at a walmart. her boyfriend is still missing. now to the arrest in the killing of a councilwoman in new jersey gunned down outside her home in february. authorities say they finally tracked down their suspect finding him in virginia, but several questions still remain about the murder. this

morning, police announcing an arrest in the deadly shooting of a new jersey councilwoman more than 300 miles from the crime scene. arrested rashid ali bynum, 28 years old, of portsmouth, virginia, in connection with the death of councilwoman eunice june 4th. police in virginia charging rashid ali bynum with the death of eunice june four, the first black person elected to office in sayreville, new jersey. the councilwoman was killed in her car outside her home on february first. i heard boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. and i'm like, oh, shoot. that is a gunfire. prosecutors say june 4th and bynum were connected through their church in the days leading up to the murder. bynum allegedly searched for what magazines were compatible with a specific handgun. prosecutor also say on the day of the murder, he searched for information about the area where the killing took place. investing neighbors say surveillance video cell phone data and electronic toll information helped them trace bynum's route from his home in virginia to new jersey and back.

third person charged in the 2002 murder of an iconic rapper, jam master jay of run-dmc was shot to death in new york city 21 years ago. two men have been charged with his murder in yesterday, federal prosecutors unsealed an indictment against a third suspect whose dna was allegedly found at the scene in florida. officials have announced breaks in two cold cases that left families without answers for decades. they include a murder in 1997. and the case of a woman's body found in a trunk in 1969. abc's lionel lewis has the details on both cases. us this morning. closure for family after 53 years. it is a relief a sad relief to finally found her and she was you know, of course, this terrible way to die. the body of a woman found in a trunk in a saint petersburg field has been identified as sylvia. june atherton. police say she was found partially clothed, wrapped in plastic and was strangled after years of

trying to solve the so-called trunk lady case. officials say their leads hit a dead end. the case goes cold. they may not get looked at again. so when the detectives are able to then pull back up, they're able to resubmit and go over evidence that somebody might have missed the first time or wasn't available for a dna hit. at that point. they exhumed the body in 2010, hoping to get a dna sample. but the remains were too degraded. but within the last year, a major development, detectives found hair that was never tested, ran it through a genealogy database and made an id using living relatives. as it's great, i, i have a real sense of relief because of the work that these guys put in and what the conclusion was. police say atherton was from tucson, arizona, and was 41 at the time. she was killed, leaving behind five children. un officials also finding answers in the case of 18 year old richard juicy evans shot and killed in 1997. it's like a load lifted. detectives

using a fingerprint from the crime scene to link to the killer. years later, who they say was 15 years old at the time . that shooter has since died. evans mom now getting closure more than 25 years later. i am so grateful because i thought i was going. i'm 65. i thought i was going to leave this world not knowing who took my child life. in the case of sylvia, june atherton police have still not determined who killed her. the saint petersburg police department, though, says they have two detectives who focus only on trying to solve cold cases like these. rhiannon andrea. lionel, thank you for that. hundreds of amazon workers are staging a walkout today at the company headquarters in seattle. and hundreds more plan to join remotely. it's a protest over the mandate forcing employees to return to work at least three days a week. workers are also upset about recent layoffs. in a statement, amazon says the company respects the employees right to express their opinions. coming up next, the

truck as a ramp. and it looks like something straight out of the dukes of hazzard. last turn, 52, 50 rollover. a police body camera capturing the wild moment. a car traveling down a highway in georgia launches off the back of a tow truck at full speed. the car going airborne, narrowly avoiding the tow truck driver walking in front of the truck. the car then flipping before crashing back down to earth and into another vehicle. deputies then rushing to the aid of the driver. deputies were there responding to another crash last week in lowndes county when the shocking moment unfolded right in front of them. this morning, officials confirm a 21 year old woman from tallahassee was behind the wheel of that car. she survived with serious injuries and is still recovering in the hospital in stable condition. the crash is still under investigation, but all we're worried about is that she heals and that she gets better.
