bills, 13 laws gender affirming care for transgender youth. 45 anti-lgbtq laws have been enacted this year. >> we are fortunate we get to live here in beautiful california where it is a lot more progressive. but it does give me pause to think about my trans brothers and sisters across the nation who have other issues they're dealing with as far as legislation is concerned. cornell: organizers say they're making big changes to this year's entertainment program. >> we added more drag this year and we are adding more talent to basically profile drag because there is a lot of what i consider hate going on against the transgender and dry community throughout the united states. cornell: but many say they refuse to be afraid. >> is nice to be part of a

community that is more diverse. i get to meet people every time i go out. it feels safe. cornell: safety and consent -- security always to big concern for sonoma county pride. the 38th annual pride festival and parade kicks off saturday at 11:00 a.m. at courthouse square. dan: support for the community is apparently at an all-time high across the nation, despite a record number of anti- lgbtq bills introduced this year, according to the latest accelerating acceptance study. research shows 91% of non-lgbtq adults believe that lgbtq individual should have the freedom to live their lives without suffering discrimination. 70% agree that companies should publicly support the lgbtq community through hiring

practices and advertising. half of those communities are new or unfamiliar to them. kristen: cities and counties across the bay area and state kicked off ride month with the raising of the progress pride flag. these are some of the ceremonies held today, over to open city hall and the california department of education in sacramento. dan: today sf pride officially announce its celebrity partners for the pride we can. the celebrity grand marshal, headliner on saturday. kaley cuoco has the honors for sunday. our colleague spoke with sf pride officials this morning on abc seven at 7:00. >> i'm so excited about these openly queer leaders, just

chinatown bakery employee was back in court today. we heard from his attorney for the first time he says he has an extensive history of mental health issues. our reporter has the story. >> just 10 days after being released on parole, he now stands accused of another violent incident, stabbing an employee at a bakery in san francisco's chinatown. he was back in court today, this time with a court-appointed translator. we learned that he has mental health concerns. >> he suffers and has a long history, an extensive history with mental health issues. >> he did not go into details about the health concerns but indicated that the system failed him. >> the criminal justice system denied him access to proper mental health and preventative care. we need care and not cages.

>> he was previously sentenced to nine years in state prison. he was convicted of attempted murder, stabbing an elderly man in portsmouth square. that person was the father of the owner of the bakery. the woman critically injured on monday was an employee of ae bakery. we talked to former prosecutor stephen clark about this case. >> you want to look at everything about his release and what information was provided to the parole office in san francisco. were they aware of the high risk nature of his issues, as well as whether he had meant to -- mental health issues in prison that either were addressed or were not addressed. >> clark says a lot of issues have to be addressed >>. >>when you release someone under these circumstances who has already committed a very violent

crime, you have to ensure that the public is safe. the only way you can do that is for making sure that this parolee is given the resources to address mental health issues and also appropriate medication. >> clark says he was expected to check in with his parole officer soon after he was released. >> at this point it is important to reverse engineer every aspect of his release and whether it was done appropriately. dan: alameda county prosecutor save averaged a negotiated settlement on a remaining murder charge. case has been controversial for the d.a.. cases because a key witness now refuses to testify. in court today, the prosecutor said he is meeting tomorrow with the family of the victim in the third case, an alleged murder for hire, and will then present the deal in court.

he has been in jail since the 2008 killings. kristen:our year old girl is ring after being shot in the leg in oakland. it happened on 60 8th avenue near macarthur boulevard. at last checked the girl was still in the hospital. the severity of her injuries is not known. police have not released any details suspects or arrests in the shooting. dan: there's a push to address the lack of attention paid to back -- like youth and black women who go missing in california. oakland city council unanimously approved a resolution to establish an ebony alert notification system. senate bill 673 is now headed to the assembly. our reporter has the story. >> from like an amber alert, a new bill aims to create what is called an ebony alert across california.

kristen: the need for affordable housing in santa clara continues to be top of mind as a possible solution for solving homelessness. the county and city of san jose celebrated the groundbreaking of a new 60 unit development on the east side of the city. dustin dorsey explains how it will impact the housing crisis for the city. dustin: san jose's incredibly high cost of living has forced thousands of people onto the streets without a place to call home. these shovels may not look like much but they may represent a way to dig out of this housing crisis. >> is a community, to make our families have access to safe, affordable, beautiful housing. >> thursday, housing celebrated the groundbreaking of a new mixed-use development on the east side of san jose.

there are a few patches still hanging around near the coast but temperatures have come up as a result of earlier burn off. sunnier skies, 2-4 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. this morning we started out with some fog and then as the fog pulls away, there were a few patches in the north bay, some along the coast and around the bay. we check out the view around northern california, some more thunderstorms are developing as we have seen in the last couple of days. right now it is confined to the northern portion of the state. the winds are sti gusting to 20 miles an hour in concord. it's a little from our camera, it's in the 70's, feeling better around san jose and palo alto.

two of the main rafting company say they are not taking reservations because there just isn't enough water in the river. that may sound odd because of the massive snow and the melt, but one rafting company sister might be enough water in the river around the middle of august. so it is just kind of slow to melt away and provide that water. dan: you can do this, it's almost that time of year for the san mateo county fair. when it kicks off this weekend, there will be new events, a new exhibit and even us special appearance by civil rights activist. >> if you're looking for something fun to do this we can come of the san mateo county fair kicks off on saturday. it features the best of san mateo county, including exhibits of farm animals, agriculture, and quilts with over 400

not. but then after i got over the fear of coming out, i was able to feel really free, almost, and i could be more myself and comfortable with myself. >> i'm thinking about applying to uc davis after high school. having people recognize me as what i am and just being able to express myself however i like, it has been really freeing. >> talk to me a little bit about how you knew or how you were feeling to be able to say, hey, i think identify more as a girl. >> i started having some gender dysphoria, not feeling comfortable in my body. people tell me that i was a boy, so that's what i told myself i was. but when i started thinking about it, it was just clear to me that i was a girl. >> i don't know what i would be

other than supportive of my kids. i want the best for them. i want them to be safe and happy. >> seeing both of my kids, they are able to connect to peers, to a community, to their interests and the things that bring them joy in a more authentic way i necessarily saw before they transitioned. >> we are lucky to be in california and be in the bay area and have a lot of supports around us and have really positive, affirming legislators. but that is not the case everywhere. that continues to really tug at my heart and make me scared for them. >> i think the biggest challenge is just hearing about all these anti-trans bills,

transphobia that is running rampant throughout our country right now. it has made it really disheartening to have to be trans in this country. >> you are super brave, so there is hope. where does that bravely come from? >> i would say it is mostly from my parents really backing me up on who i am. they show me a lot of how i can stand up for myself, and they stand up for me eight lot. so they are very brave. >> it makes you emotional to talk about that, doesn't it? what are you feeling inside when that starts to happen? >> i just love them so much and i'm so grateful that they are so supportive.

the hardest part of being transgender? it's not being transgender, it is everyone else. >> what is one the things that put that's a people most misunderstand about you? >> probably pronouns. a lot of people don't know how to understand they/them pronouns. that's pretty difficult because that is part of me. a lot of people just dismiss that. >> important for myself to kind of combat the feelings i get when i see so much hatred around me is being able to organize protests and speak up about things and really be a part of my community and try to help in all the ways

kind of project and barry is not involved, it is probably like the real unvarnished story of what went on with barry bonds and the steroids and all of that. i suspect that if he was involved, than the storyline would be a bit more vanilla or sanitized. there is a lot of controversy. but i was say this, while the rest of the country has very strong feelings about barry, if he shows up at oracle park, a standing ovation every night for the rest of his life come because he is beloved here. kristen: and mad bomb is bum is beloved as well. larry: for a lot of guys at the tail end, it is hard to see the end of your athletic career and there are clearly some struggles around that. kristen: the miami heat will have an additional opponent other than the denver nuggets.
