new updates to the bay toll plaza. expect that to fill in a little more, but it's doing nicely right now. only 38 minutes. >> thank you. a suspect has been arrested in connection with a string of violent deadly crimes in the south bay. we want to show you this map where everything happened. police say there were five crime scenes. three people are dead. at least three other people have been hurt. we are live in san jose with the details this morning. >> when expansive and extreme this deadly crime spree was, at last check, three people were stabbed, one fatally. two others have life-threatening injuries. three others were hit by a car, two killed, one ok. all of this spanning five crime scenes across two cities.

san jose police say it began around 3:00 yesterday afternoon with a carjacking and stabbing. one victim with a life-threatening injury. police believe the suspect then went to a shopping center and attempted to carjack a second vehicle, stabbing another person whose injuries are also said to be life-threatening. when the suspect tried to get away, we are told he hit a victim in the parking lot who is said to be ok. as the suspect was moving along, he was then spotted at the intersection of santa clara and 16th street's a short time later. >> it appears he attend julie -- he intentionally rammed two pedestrians, ultimately causing life-threatening injuries and as of now both of them have succumbed to those injuries. >> at 4:30 p.m., 90 minutes after the rampage started, police were called to a smart

and final. they took the suspect into custody at a fifth location. the only information the suspect -- the police released is that the suspect is an adult male tied to all incidents. we don't have any motive but police are expected to give an update later today. for now, reporting life outside police headquarters, abc 7 news. >> in the east bay, a person has died after leading police on a chase. it happened just after 7:00 last night. officers tried to stop the driver for what they were calling a vehicle code violation. the driver was suspected of being under the influence and took off. police tried to save the driver after the crash, they said, but they died. >> the senate approved raising the limit of the debt ceiling, averting what could have been
