in mind as hurricane season gets going, it is a great time to think of a plan and keep it in place if you live in a coastal state. >> absolutely. somara, thank you so much. >> now to the bipartisan debt deal president biden is expected to sign into law. president biden addressed from the oval office for the first time during his presidency. elizabeth schulze has the details for us. >> good morning to you. two days before the government runs out of cash. president biden says the stakes could not have been higher here. he's set to sign into law the agreement allowing the u.s. to keep paying off its bills narrowing avoiding a devastating default. the president spoke directly to the american public for the first time in the oval office. he used the moment to take a victory lap, trying to get in the last word after weeks of tense negotiations. biden praised the agreement that passed both the house and the

senate this week with bipartisan support. this bill will suspend the debt ceiling for two years, past the 2024 presidential election and limit federal spending. it will put new work requirements on some americans receiving food assistance and in august, it will formally end the pause of the loan dpreement. agreement. both sides admit they did not get everything they want. with this deal so down to the wire, the u.s. is still at risk at a credit rating downgrade according to finch. the ongoing the federal finance are a threat to the tust. >> the latest on the cancer drug shortage putting thousands at risk. >> the courtroom that's now a monument to the civil rights

>> welcome back, let's get right to our "gma" stories. shortage of cancer drugs frustrating doctors and putting patients at risk. >> medical experts are sounding alarm on the cancer drug shortage adding to the hardships on doctors and patients. >> the light at the end of the tunnel is there and to be thrown this curveball at this shocking point. >> reporter: 39-year-old says he has four rounds of chemo left when he received this news of his life-saving drugs he needed

was in short supply. >> based on the needs and rationing out goes. in my situation, i was not high enough in the area of need. >> reporter: he's one of the thousands of cancer patients across the country. the iowa father says he was taken onto shrink his cancer. >> what's also disheartening is this med was working with my cancer and showing positive results. >> reporter: according to the fda, there is a shortage of more than 130 drugs caused by factor of changes and demands and many factoring problems and supply chain issues. the american cancer society says cancer drugs are in the top five drug classes affected by

>> now to an abc news exclusive in little rock, arkansas, marking the 70 years since the supreme court ordered an end to racial segregation at america's schools. abc devin dwire has the story. >> i was elated that we could go to school. >> reporter: elizabeth expert was 15-year-old, one of the little rock's nine of the group of black students who wanted to attend all-white little rock central high. >> what's the story? >> a group of people following me and taunting me. >> were you afraid? >> they threatened to hang me. >> expert was turned away more than three year after the supreme court ordered an end to the segregation. the group turned to a judge named ronald davis ordered the state's segregationist governor

country. we have a question for you, this one comes in from megan mcbride, let's listen. >> all readers know the power of the book, i love the idea of a world where generations of families entrusted to protect books. tell me how the story came to you, did it started as you were writing? >> it started with the sisters and the relationships between them. as i was writing, i was thinking a lot about family, and inheritance and what you pass down and i was thinking about books, both as a source of power but also as a resource. thinking about who determines who gets access to resources. i am thinking about that and the vein of inheritance and family and all of that. it all came together. it started with the sisters and that family's story. >> awesome. >> congratulations to you. >> bravo! >> thank you very much.
