pulled people out of the vehicle. >> we saw a big fire outside of starbucks, four police cars. we were wondering what was going on and as we parked the car to get out, we run over quickly and we see that there is a -- they are pulling somebody out of the car and they are breaking glass. >> the witnesses said first responders showed up within minutes, one person is transported to the hospital, this is a developing story and he will bring you updates as soon as they are available. we are getting a better idea how a crime spree the south bay unfolded on thursday. it started with two carjackings in san jose, the victims wer stabbed and have fehreatening injuries. a couple was hit and killed by a car in san jose and man stabbed to death in milpi we spoke with a man who worked with the couple in san jose. >> chilling surveillance video captured a killing rampage in the south bay.

this is the moment the suspect is accused of ramming his stolen car into pedestrians on south 16th st in san jose, thursday afternoon. two people, a couple, died, officials have not identified them but people in the neighborhood did. min tran is covered in bruises, he said he was hit by the car while standing at the bottom of the ladder. he is a painter and contractor for the homeowners who lived next to this small parking lot. the homeowners were admiring his work when they were struck by the car. >> a u-turn, he hit the owner. >> outside of the home from where they were hit as a sign that says mr. and misses pham, we are praying for your family. all day neighbors, friends, and loved ones have been dropping off flowers and food for family members. >> there were in the wrong place at the wrong time. >> neighbors described them as

an older, quiet, and gentle couple. >> i did not sleep last night. i could not sleep. >> less than an hour suspect hit the couple he proceeded to milpitas where he is accused of stabbing and killing a 27-year-old man in a parking lot, these were all random acts of violence. min tran says he is ok but he hurts for the lives lost. >> my body, my heart, everything. >> neighbors plan of coordinating a candlelight vigil for the famine --pham's coming days. >> the suspect is kevin parkourana. he acted he is on probation and court documents obtained by abc7 revealed he has struggled with mental health. in the east bank pamela price says justice has been served in her words the two cases involving alonzo longwood.

our team has been covering this case for months. he was accused of three murders in 2008 and has been imprisoned awaiting trial on those murder charges. the judge signed off on a request from the das office to drop two of the murder cases after a key witness refused to testify. this is the first time price has spoken about the court proceedings this week. >> he was overturned by my predecessor. that was wrong. we have been working mightily to right that wrong. >> prosecutors and his attorneys are trying to work out a plea deal for the remaining murder charges. a judge would have to sign off on it which could take several weeks. a restaurant is closing after 40 years, it will serve the last meal on june 22. the mexican restaurant racked up $65,000 in back rent during the pandemic, the owner told the chronicle they were able to

raise the money but the landlord is still moving forward with a plan for a new tenant. in the north bay we have reported heavily on retail theft in san francisco, it appears to be expanding to other parts of the bay area. walgreens in sonoma county mporarily closed its doors on sunday due to an uptk shoplifting. this was located on old redwood highway, according to the democrat, closed on sunday after employee said a dozen people shoplifted within 30 minutes. the paper repord police also arrested three women for suspicion of shoplifting at the same walgreens on thursday. charges will not be filed against a los angeles angels athlete who got into a confrontation with an open a's fan at the oakland coliseum -- oakland a's fan at the oakland coliseum. this video taken in march was anthony rendon appearing to grab the fan by. the shirt and take a swipe at him. it happened after the fan said something to rendon.

oakland police closed the investigation this week after looking at the potential assault and battery charges. mlb did suspend him for four games and find him after its own investigations. churchill downs suspended raising over 12 horses died in 12 months and local advocates are calling for the same thing to happen in the bay area at golden gate field which has also seen multiple animal deaths this year. tim has a look at the debate happening right here in california. >> and churchill downs in kentucky, the horse racing season has come to an abrupt halt. the death of a dozen animals over the past month, the home of the kentucky derby has suspended all racing as it re-examines the safety measures. here in the bay area, local activists are calling for the same to happen at golden gate field. >> i am surprised that so little has been done. >> she works with an activist group called direct action everywhere. she believes banning racing is

the best way to stop deaths. >> that is inherent to the industry. these horses are bread for racing, fed for racing, they are drugged for racing, everything about the way they are raised is for profit, not for their well-being. >> 28 racing horses have died this year in california. eight have been at golden gate field which did not answer our request for comment. >> it makes me wonder what number of horse deaths is acceptable? >> the horse racing board says the state has the most stringent and effective regulations in the country. many horse deaths are because of illness, in a statement sent to abc7news they said in part the california horse industry has implemented more than 50 safety measures to protect horses and riders. those efforts have led to a 55% reduction in equine fatality since 2019. that does not go far enough for samantha fay, she has a bay area court advocate who thinks even one death is too many. >> wen yu
