let's start with a look at your weather. it looks like another beautiful day. frances: so gorgeous. i'm having a hard time picking which camera to show you because they all look so good. the sun seeing clearing. there are low clouds off to the coast. temperatures in the 50's. it will be mild at the beaches with temperatures near 60 but hot inland. near 90 degrees for some spots around the bay, mid-to-upper 70's. sunset at 8:27. enjoy the sunshine and warmth because temperatures change and we even have rain chances in the accuweather 7-day forecast. i will show you that shortly. gloria: we will enjoy today. thank you. developing news. a teenager is in critical condition after the fiery crash in danville we told you about yesterday.

police say it started with a car leading police on a chase after an attempted traffic stop. get hit another car before flipping and catching on fire. we talked daughter was in one of those vehicles. reporter: first responder danville worked quickly to pull five people out of the burning car early saturday morning. >> we saw a big fire starbucks and four police cars. we were wondering what was going on. we parked the car and got out and ran over quickly. we saw they were pulling somebody out of the car. reporter: he did not want to show his face. he was driving by when he saw the car on fire. >> you could feel the warmth of the fire across the street. it was huge. reporter: the cost or county sheriffs office says just after 1:00 a.m., danville police tried to pull over a driver.

the driver did not stop. the driver allegedly ran another red light at this intersection, this time hitting a tesla. no one in the tesla was injured but the speeding car rolled and caught fire. >> everybody is graduating. we are hoping everyone is ok. reporter: the intersection reopened print the starbucks remained closed due to damage. >> critical condition. they are saying that than likely might not make it. reporter: this mother says her daughter knew all of the people in the car. the mom says the seniors, all-female, just graduated friday night from high school. she understands police have to enforce the rules but is still concerned about a police chase that went almost five miles on a winding suburban road. >> the cops need to do what they need to do to stop it.

but at that time, what about the other cars? you know? i don't know. it is not safe. it is a tough call. reporter: the mom says the seniors were treated and released. police did not say if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. gloria: there are no injuries after a car rammed into what appears to be a small apartment building around 9:00 last night. authorities tell abc 7 two cars collided, sending one crashing into the building. it happened at 19th and hartford street in san francisco. you can see the hole in the building following the crash. an elderly man hiking on a remote road in the north bay has died. investigators are calling his death suspicious. the marin county sheriff's office says the 83-year-old man was found with a head injury near wild irish rose and sir frances drake boulevard.

a friend says they hiking but later found him severely injured. the man was taken to the hospital where he later died. authorities do not have a suspect but say they have received multiple calls about a person with a gun in the area. >> multiple reports the last several weeks of subjects seen with what was believed to be a firearm. those subject were never located. we are going back through calls for service and the investigations division will follow up on leads for anybody we were able to contact and vehicles seen in the area. gloria: it is now confirmed those calls and the man's death were connected. we are one month away from governor newsom's decision to send officers into crack down on the drug market. we hit the streets to see what comes next in the battle against the fictional crisis.

reporter: the sights and sounds of san francisco's fentanyl crisis one month into a major move to crack down on the open-air drug market. the california highway patrol teaming up with sfpd to target the tenderloin and market districts while the national guard works behind the scenes analyzing intelligence. we are in your backyard. have you noticed a difference out here? >> i would say not really. we are in a situation where we are seeing a level of addiction and drug use and drug dealing that is kind of unprecedented. reporter: the city is seeing two drug overdose deaths a day, on pace for the deadliest year yet in the crisis. supervisor dorsey says it will take more time and resources before seeing an impact. right now, he says, just six chp officers are on the streets but

believes more support is on the way. >> i did talk to the chief of police today. he feels it is helpful to have chp lending support in a uniformed presence because that gives san francisco's police department the ability resources to narcotics operations. reporter: and it is opening up resources to start arresting drug users. the supervisor confirming sfpd arrested 16 people using drugs in the past week for public intoxication. >> it is an approach i will support. so long as we are making an intervention that is more than just jail. >> what are they going to do? it will create more problems. reporter: randall is addicted to fentanyl and says arresting people like him is not the answer. >> we get out and we are worse. what does that do? it teaches us to be sneakier and bigger criminals.

we don't need that. we need compassion. oria: vancouver to look at north america's first ever safe injection site. you can watch our original documentary available on demand on our bay area streaming tv app. in the south bay, a memorial is outside the home of a san jose couple who were run over during a violent crime spree. media partners confirmed the victims were both in their 70's. the suspect was arrested after a crime spree hijacking vehicles, ramming cars into pedestrians, and stabbing multiple people. three people were killed, including the phams. five others were injured. people who rely heavily on public transportation in the bay area are calling for change when it comes to transit.

>> gavin newsom! gloria: calling on the governor to add more financial support for california's public transit system into the state budget. they used grim imagery to drive their message home. you can see organizers are holding mock funeral marches, including conference, for the bay area transit systems. it is symbolic of what they call the life or death state for transit agencies. >> as we come out of the pandemic, temporary federal funding is drying up and we are trying to redesign systems to serve the new travel patterns that have emerged. we are in a pivotal moment. gloria: mock funeral marches were held in oakland and san francisco. the bay area continues to recognize gun violence awareness this weekend. a rally and march are planned across the golden gate demanding

action against gun violence. it will begin at 11:00 this morning. the alameda district attorney visited a group of eighth-grade students who a quilt made up of ideas to solve gun violence. it will be on display today at warehouse 416 in oakland. we get a check of the weather this morning with frances. how is it looking? frances: is looking a little hazy right now but the weather will be warm inland, even hot in some spots. temperatures a degree warmer compared to yesterday. big changes starting tomorrow. i will have all those details in the accuweather 7-day forecast. gloria: questions after a group of immigrants were reportedly flown from texas to california without warning. governor gavin newsom's response.

children could view them. it is pride month and celebrations are underway in communities in the bay area. events are held all month with plenty of parades. in the north bay, we saw the first big celebration of pride month. there was a showing of unity amid hundreds of laws nationwide targeting the lgbtq+ community. for now bernard has a sights and sounds of the parade. >> ♪ reporter: pride was on full display in downtown santa rosa with a huge crowd showing up for this year's parade. >> i love all the people here to show our community love. we should all have a sense of belonging. reporter: the captain brought his daughter. >> she needed to get outside. i live for this. she lives for this. it was an awesome moment to have fun together. >> everything is a celebration

of the fact we have come so far and acknowledgment we have a long way to go. reporter: many believe there is a new sense of pride unity this year as some states seek to diminish the quality. the human rights campaign says 540 bills have been introduced in legislatures this year. >> the anti-trans loss and anti-lgbtq is strong in other parts of our country. it is important we show support for our lgbtq community. >> my 13-year-old is marching. she is out and proud this year. we are all celebrating with her and excited to do that. reporter: organizers say this is likely the biggest event they've ever hosted. security measures have been increased to keep everyone safe. >> more and more, we have to have these events to showcase people that we are here and our rights are still threatened. and also to encourage more

people to celebrate and come out . reporter: when he saved the meaning and feeling of pride is shining bright and cannot be tarnished or erased. >> pride means a lot of things to me. being to show up authentically and be yourself around people celebrating where and trans joy and is being whoever you are. that is what it means to me. it is important. reporter: organizers say they were concerned protested w would show up but that did not happen. gloria: abc of the pride parade. you can watch parade right here and on our streaming tv app. the event will be hosted by our abc 7 mornings crew. state leaders are investigating what they call potential criminal or civil action after a

group of immigrants were flown from texas to california without warning. governor gavin newsom and the attorney general met with the immigrants yesterday. newsom says investigators are looking into circumstances around who paid for the trip and whether or not they were misled about job opportunities. this is not the first time migrants were flown from texas to sacramento in the past year. for some in santa clara affordable housing continues to be a possible solution to solving homelessness. they celebrated the groundbreaking of a new development of 60 developments. could impact the housing crisis. reporter: the high cost of living has forced thousands onto the streets without a place to call home. these shovels represent jose and santa clara county can dig out of the housing crisis. >> our commitment as a community

to make sure our families have access to safe, affordable, beautiful housing. reporter: thursday, and non- profit charities housing celebrated the groundbreaking of a new mixed-use development on the east side of san jose. 60 total units and commercial space for nonprofit organizations. most important, it will be a 100% affordable housing development. >> this affordable housing community is another important step forward to solving the housing crisis. by 2025, we will have 59 beautiful affordable homes reserved. reporter: the office of supportive housing rapid rehousing program is earmarking 50% of these future units to people transitioning out of homelessness. with more funding to use, the work does not stop here. >> our board has approved over 5100 affordable units and 2200

are set aside as supportive housing. when all are in operation we will have new permanent housing for approximately 14,800 people. reporter: the homeless census has shown a downward trend for the second year in a row. they say this project is a continued step in the right direction. >> we need to build more affordable housing. we know housing first works. it is getting people off our streets as quickly as possible into permanent homes and connecting them to resources they need. that is what is going to be happening here. gloria: booming. many ships are getting crowded and overbooked. industry leaders are expecting 31.5 million passengers to set sail in 2023. that is 6% higher than pre-pandemic levels. it is on pace to be the strongest year for cruising.

pollen has been high. the u.v. index will be very high today so have the sunscreen ready. overnight lows with extensive cloud cover again, a typical pattern. temperatures will drop into the low 50's for the most part. san francisco, 52. san jose, 55. a look at the week ahead to give you an idea how much temperatures will drop inland. in livermore, our average high is 79. today, 89. 10 degrees above average. drop on monday. that is because we have this area of low pressure that will influence our weather. we stay below average the rest of the week. this area of low pressure will cause the counterclockwise rotation and bring us hit and miss showers for the bay area. it will bring thunderstorm

captured by global news shows the moment a chinese warship came close to the american destroyer. the canadian television was on the montreal as it participated in a joint mission allegedly in international waters separating china and taiwan. in a statement to abc news, the canadian department of defense says it was done in full accordance with international law, specifically the human convention of the law of the sea. >> we need to be eyes wide open on china. they have become an increasingly disruptive global power. reporter: at the time of the incident, secretary was attending a summit in singapore meeting with defense ministers. >> we do not seek conflict or

confrontation but we will not flinch in the face of bullying or coercion. reporter: last close over the south china sea. earlier this year, the u.s. shut down a chinese spy balloon that flew over the continental u.s. but efforts continue to maintain communication between the u.s. and china. an official confirming cia director william burns traveled to beijing in may meeting with counterparts working the highest level visit since the spy balloon was shot down in february. gloria: china is responding to the incident. the defenseman are accuses the u.s. of trying to destabilize the region. >> the international community looks for a stable relationship and is concerned about potential conflict or confrontation. it is undeniable a severe

siren song of populism. gloria: voters who spoke to abc news said they are still searching for the right candidate for the next election. i was first in the nation republican caucus will be held in early 2024. the debate on the debt ceiling is over. president biden signed the agreement into law on saturday. it suspends the debt ceiling for two years past the presidential election while limiting federal spending. it also ends the ponds on federal student loan payments in august. fitch of a credit downgrade. a technical error is to blame for the train derailment that killed nearly 300 in india. in indian railway official says it was an error in the signaling system that made the train

the san jose spotlight news site reports 553 would ban employer fr shoplifters. a wellness referral program for employees would be included. marin county is getting financial support to replace aging water pipes. the county has been awarded a $6.4 million state grant. the municipal water district plans to use the grant to replace half of the water mains in marin city. the water district raised its rates by as much as 20% recently to pay for infrastructure improvements. a new report finds tuition increases may be necessary for the financial well-being of the college system.

the suggestion is to raise tuition in the fall of next year. leanne that may mean for students. reporter: the class never saw their tuition increase during before years they were enrolled. since 2011, there have been only one tuition increase and that was a 5% hike the system says expenses continue to go up. fiscal advisors representing all 23 colleges say it is time to bring more money in. wages have gone up and buildings are in need of upgrades and repair. but students say they should put the needs of students first. >> i support our staff. i think people library, our teachers are vital.

they have to take into consideration the students are the foundation of the school. reporter: most dodin's do not pay the full tuition. still, he says would be added pressure on him and his family. quotes having to work other jobs. -- >> reporter: they could propose a 3% hike through 2030. for a student starting in 2024, tuition would go up $5,900, eventually reaching almost 5900 by 2030. they say any increase should be gradual, moderate, and predictable. >> i would probably have to take

out a bigger loan. reporter: they recommend a they vote on it by september of this year. gloria: on the peninsula, the san mateo county fair is in full swing. organizers say they have a lot of attractions and are expecting a huge turnout. >> come out to the fair, have a great time. it is a beautiful weekend. this is something to look forward to for the summer. they should expect to have a little piece of everything. there is something for everybody here. we have the new dragon exhibit that has seven animatronic life-sized dragons. we have concerts on the main stage at 7:30 each night and throughout the day each day. gloria: the fair goes 11. adults are $20 to get in, kids $15. children five and under are free. it looks like another beautiful day to go to the fair. let's get a check of your forecast with frances. good morning. frances: that morning.
