>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. because of this scene. one person with a front row view describes what is going on. thanks for joining us. you are watching abc 7 news at 11:00. first, we begin with the mystery of migrants. 16 migrants are getting help after they were flown on a private jet, dropped off at the doorstep of the catholic diocese of sacramento. jr stone joins us live in the

newsroom with more on these moves from out-of-state. jr: the migrants are ok, that is the good news. advocates i talked with say sending them on a trip like this after they trekked across central america, is just plain cruel. >> it is inhumane. it is abusive, exploitative, for political points. jr: california attorney rob bonta, strong word sunday on who may be to blame, sending 16 migrants from texas to new mexico, then on a private plane from new mexico to sacramento >> we think it is the state of florida. there are documents that were given to the migrants with the name of the state of florida on it. jr: officials say the majority are men from venezuela and colombia. amy is sickened over what happened.

>> what many people are experiencing to get to the u.s. mexico border we are horrific journeys. to then do this, it is playing politics with human bodies. jr: upon landing in sacramento, they were bussed from the private plane they were flown on to the catholic diocese of sacramento. they were dropped off, and when the door open, the bus left. >> you don't use people as pawns. >> they deserted them and dumped them in sacramento and did not lift a finger. jr: the group was told they would be provided with jobs, free support, and help getting into a migrant center. it is unclear where this group crossed the border, but the locations that amy is familiar with do need more resources but are not overloaded and are designed to help migrants. >> from the folks that i have spoken with in el paso and some folks in tucson, we are not --

it is not like it is anything they are not prepared for. they are prepared for this, and they have processes in place. jr: rob bonta says the transfer of migrants is potentially illegal, saying it could violate criminal or civil laws. the governor echoing those thoughts in a press release, saying be criminal charge here could end up being kidnapping. dion: we develops. new at 11:00, a dramatic scene on the bay bridge. infuriating many drivers with what appears to be a music that you shoot completely shut down. the man who shot this video was on his way to san francisco with friends at 6:40 saturday evening when they saw this. the man who requested anonymity told me the situation was scary with multiple people yelling, and seem to be a sideshow at first.

upon closer inspection, a camera person at her to be reporting -- recording people dancing. witnesses said it only lasted five minutes. chp confirmed they don't have an official report, but are looking at the video to learn more. tomorrow, lawmakers at capital in sacramento will be celebrating the start of month. it is now the center of controversy. a well-known bay area drag queen is facing pushback from republican members of the state senate. as tara reports protests, this queen sends the show will go on. >> i am so excited for tomorrow i am completely floored that i am being recognized with this amazing honor. tara: sister roma is a member of the sisters of perpetual indulgence. they have devoted themselves to community service.

monday, she is being recognized at the state capital as part of the legislators pride month celebration. it is not without controversy. the dodgers recently uninviting the sisters to ride night over concerns the group mocks the catholic church and similar concerns at swirl at the state capital. >> it is unfortunate that my republican colleagues decided to make an issue of -- by honoring sister roma. sister roma is one of the very best community leaders in san francisco. she does amazing work, as do the sisters of perpetual indulgence in general. tara: testers are planning to show up, posting a prayer vigil on the steps of the legislature. >> our concern is that the state of california by honoring them they are really uplifting and highlighting a group that makes a mockery of many of the most sacred rites and rituals and icons of the christian faith. catholicism, specifically.

tara: sister roma is quick to dismiss the claims. >> we have heard this for 40 plus years. none of it is new to me. tara: the sisters were founded in san francisco in 1977 and has members in these all over the world. >> anyone who knows a sister roma knows that she has a spine of steel. these attacks only make her more determined to do the right thing by our community. and we really need spines of steel right now. tara: pointing to the 500 bills currently being tracked the aclu, taking aim at the lgbtq community, many directed at drag queens. >> i have never paid attention to the haters. i am just going to focus on continuing to do the work i do in my community and the love i feel from my community my because that is the real reward.

dion: is just found tennessee's first emanation ban on drag shows to be unconstitutional. the trump appointed u.s. district judge struck down that legislation saying it violated the first amendment. the ruling stated the law was vague and encouraged scrum and tory enforcement. the law would have banned any adult cabaret performances in public or where children are present. >> there is more acceptance in the world. the world is changing. when it came out he sided with us, we were very grateful. we know that pride is [indiscernible]. dion: the attorney general says he plans to appeal the judge's ruling. florida has a similar rule that was just signed into law a few weeks ago. that law has yet to face any legal challenges. abc 7 is a proud sponsor of san francisco pride parade.u can wa,

june 20 fifth, here on abc 7 and on the streaming tv. turn to the weather as we take live look outside from our emeryville camera tonight. all is clear now, it got pretty hot out there earlier. we are getting ready for a dramatic turn, spencer is joining us now with your 24 hour forecast. let's talk about how turning we are talking. spencer: ok. quite a bit of turning, as you watch my forecast animation, you will see a counter quite circulation around an area of low pressure, centered over the central california coast. in the afternoon to early evening tomorrow, you will see spotty showers popping up in the central valley, and wrapping around to the north. it does not look like much will hit the immediate bay area, but going into tomorrow night and tuesday morning, you see more active weather to the south. also in the central valley, and

then by midafternoon tuesday, looks like a better chance of some of those showers working their way into the immediate bay area. we are talking about a chance of some widely scattered showers and the possibility of an actual thunderstorm or two. because of the instability in the atmosphere. by 11:00 p.m. tuesday, chance of rain fall ranging from one to two hundredths of an inch. there may be a little bit more in this area from redwood city down into the santa cruz mountains. i will give you more of a look at the chance of showers and our seven-day forecast a little bit later. dion: opens its annual developers conference. a mixed reality headset is one of the items expected to be announced. also expected to be there are those striking with the writers guild of america. members of the writers guild will hold an apple day of action

at apple park in cupertino as well as apple stores in five other u.s. cities. the strike is now entering its sixth week with 11,000 film, tv, news, radio, and online writers landing on repay. a stable pay structure and provisions around artificial intelligence. the directors guild of america says it has reached a quote, historic tentative contract deal. 19,000 members would see a 5% wage increase in the first year. the contract would also ban live ammunition onset following the deadly shooting of halyna hutchins on the rest movie set in 2021. one major component, both sides agreed, artificial intelligence cannot rip these duties performed by its members. the deal now goes to the guild's national board. much more to come tonight on abc7news at 11:00. that sonic boom heard across the nation's capital.

dion: families, advocates, and gun violence survivors all demanding real change. they took their message to the golden gate bridge. cornell tells us the nationwide movement honors lives lost and focuses on finding solutions. cornell: sev braved the fog to march across

the golden gate bridge. they say, enough is enough. advocates wore orange, a color often worn by hunters to signify not being a target. many say the gun violence can target anyone. >> it doesn't matter if you are black, white, gay, straight, and those bullets come flying, it's not going to discriminate. cornell: the annual rally was organized by mom's demand action, who were calling for stronger gun safety laws to keep kids safe at school. >> i joined this moment because of school shootings, they left me terrified to go to school. we have to say, enough blood has been spilled and it is time for change now. >> first year was really hard, i couldn't take my children to school. cornell: survived shooting. three of her coworkers to killed.

on board a canadian ship or by. the vessels came within 150 yards of each other. the chinese ship reportedly picked up speed before cutting across and forcing the american ship to slow down. u.s. officials are chinese ship's crew of acting in an unsafe manner. >> they are trying to flex their muscles and advance authoritarianism. dion: china's defense minister responded saying the u.s. ships presence was a provocation. late last month, a chinese fighter jet came within 400 feet of a u.s. reconnaissance lane over the south china sea. earlier this year, the u.s. shot down a chinese spy nine that will over the u.s. did saudi arabia is planning to slash its oil output i another one million barrels per day or at least a month. this is part of an effort by opec's leading oil producers to prop up the price of crude oil.

forecast animation tonight shows increasing clouds at various levels. we will start the day with partly to mostly cloudy skies. overnight low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 50's. pretty mild overnight. tomorrow, highs near 60 at the coast, upper 60's to low 70's around the bay shoreline. inland, mostly mid to upper 70's, although two or three locations hit 80. starting at noon tomorrow, watch the counterclockwise circulation. it will be bringing us this instability. we will see showers wrapping around the bay area. not many are likely to hit the bay area. however, there is a chance of some showers working their way through and hitting the bay area and an isolated chance for thunderstorms. here is the seven-day forecast, much cooler tomorrow. even cooler than that going in

to midweek. tuesday, stronger chance of showers than tomorrow. even if we get showers, we are not expecting them to amount to much. sunny skies, wednesday, thursday, friday. amateurs below average going into next weekend. next sunday might be the beginning of a little bit of a warm up. apart from the unstable weather, we are actually pretty calm. dion: still epic proportions. the crucial cause that has hundreds of people know biking hundreds of miles down the california coast.

day aids lifecycle 2023 bike ride. they are raising awareness of hiv and aids. 2000 participants each raise a minimum of $3500 and volunteers called roadies will help out along the route all week. aids lifecycle raised nearly 12 planned dollars this year which will go towards hiv medical treatment, testing, and prevention. junior giants hosted its annual and adorable drive over the weekend. select giants players donated their gloves ahead of saturday's game to hold up attention for the glove drive. it reaches 30,000 young players and underserved communities across the state and nevada and oregon. the fundraiser ensures each player has the essentials needed to evolve. drilling finals while i former stanford star shines bright in women's golf. chris joins us now. chris: coming up, miami takes

>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. dion: a sonic boom cameras across the virginia, maryland, and d.c. area. neighbors were going crazy over what they heard and what it turned out to be. u.s. officials tell abc news a plane crash in southwest virginia is connected to that boom. four people were on board. state police say no survivors were located.

we have the latest. reporter: u.s. d.c. air national guard m-16s were scrambled to investigate an unresponsive aircraft that was buying a straight light over the d.c. area. traveling at supersonic speeds, causing the sonic room that startled residents from virginia to maryland. those f-16s eventually caught up with the unresponsive aircraft, a business jet. a u.s. official telling abc news the pilot of that cessna was passed out and about 10 minutes after the jets caught up, the aircraft crashed around 3:30 p.m.. >> crashed with a passengers. >> it appears to be a case of hypoxia. when a loss of consciousness occurs when there is not enough oxygen in the cabin reporter: it has not been confirmed what can

particularly active this time of year. a proposal for what bay area's largest safe rb parking site could still be approved. it could house up to 85 vehicles. southbay reporter zach takes a closer look. zach: this land of more than acres could become the site of the largest rv community supportive parking program. >> we wanted to zach: people living in rvs. the program site could hold 85. it would also allow cars and other vehicles belonging to those living in the rvs. there is a waste center and a construction company across the street. >> we had folks weigh in and support. zach: san jose mayor

parking sites like the one we are pursuing will enable us to relocate on street rvs to a dedicated site with services that help folks graduate into permanent housing. this will be a win-win for the dwellers and the community. if the san jose city council approves a 10 year lease on a it would cost $18 million. he wants to >> big concern with all this interim housing is, it's not going fast enough or big enough. we need to go big and quick. zach: he knows that not all are in favor, but it's too programs that have been successful. >> crime goes down, vandalism goes down, cost efficiency goes up. it is a lower cost and you are helping people get on track. in many cases, you are literally saving their lives. zach: having permanent housing options is critical.

project. the congregation started phase one of the $97 million project. the design will include reinstating the original entrance which had long been closed off because of accessibility. a new entry will lead into a reconstructed open air or yard. also a large scroll of artwork drawn in honor of the project will be buried within the construction site. that construction is expected to be completed in 2025 when the building will celebrate its pineal. tenderloin district is the site of an event designed to boost community pride. saint anthony's foundation is hosting tenderloin sunday streets, a celebration organizers call two full blocks of family fun. the program promotes safe pedestrian only spaces with block parties in neighborhoods throughout the city. organizers took the opportunity to demonstrate what is possibly and what is possible in one of san francisco's most troubled neighborhoods.
