>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. >> blessing or flying migrants around the country without coordination with the federal government. we have talked about this, state or local officials. it is dangerous and unacceptable. ama: for the second time since friday, a plane of migrants have landed in the state's capital. they are pointing the finger of florida governor ron desantis. i'm on the dates. dan: thank you for joining us. the plane carrying the migrants

landed at 10:20 a.m. this morning with 20 people on board. ama: karina nova joins us live from the newsroom with those details. kristin: the new flight appears to be operated by the same company, which brought in the first group of migrants friday. the 16 people who arrived at the catholic diocese of sacramento are from colombia and venezuela, and entered through the u.s. through texas. according to california attorney general rob bonta, the migrants have documents indicating florida coordinated the transfer. a florida vendor was involved in flights to martha's vineyard last year. you can see that video there. governor gavin newsom tweeted to florida governor ron desantis saying in part, this is not martha's vineyard, and posted a link to california's kidnapping law. the asylum-seekers are being interviewed to help determine if any laws were broken, including kidnapping. >> those first 16 and there are 20 more who are with us in

sacramento that we will need to interview and get facts from. what they were told, what they believed, what they were informed. we will identify any violations of criminal law, whether it be misdemeanors or felonies, and any violations of civil law. at this time, we are not at a place where we are able to make the final legal conclusion. . we need to complete our factual investigation. karina: governor desantis has not said anything about the situation, but dissent is signed off on a multimillion dollar budget that relocates people out of florida who illegally enter the country. desantis will be in sacramento later this month for a presidential campaign fundraiser. according to the sacramento nonprofit assisting the migrants, the group has pending court appearances. but because they are now in california, they are likely to be delayed and that asylum process. bonton says california will take care of these people providing food, shelter, and lega

services. we have reached out to the four diocese in the bay area. san jose and santa rosa tell us they have not received calls for assistance from sacramento, and they add they have heard nothing about any future migrant arrivals. did not hear back from the san francisco or oakland dioceses. karina nova, abc 7 news. dan: thank you very much. ama: joining us is phil matier. dan: let's talk about the political theater of all of this. desantis versus newsom. >> it has been going on for a while, as ron desantis gears up to run for president, newsom has been gearing up to run against ron desantis. what we have is two big egos out there and jousting with these immigrants is being pons. not the first time desantis has played this card. he sent a plane load of immigrants up to martha's vineyard, and then he also dropped -- he and the texas

governor, they dropped migrants off in front of kamala harris' office in washington, d.c. and in new york. there are questions raised about the legality of it. so far, nobody has been charged with anything. everybody gets attention on it and gavin newsom is swinging back. . let's remember, gavin newsom has spent the last year running ads in florida criticizing desantis, and attacking him left and right. ama: with the presidential campaign season picking up, are you expecting to see more of this? phil: right now, yes. we will see more immigration as an issue and what to do. it is not just with ron desantis. . in new york, the mayor is grappling with 4000 a week showing up. he is putting then in jim's of schools. that is causing -- dan: you can overwhelm new york city, that is saying something. phil: he is exporting them to the suburbs and they are upset. chicago is seeing it, denver is seeing it. we are seeing theater, emotionally wrought, but on the

issue of immigration. desantis is doing to newsom what he has done to others as well. dan: how big a role is this controversy went to play in the larger presidential election? phil: it is up there with public safety. public shows immigration, securing the border, and immigration and inflation, these are the hot button issues. people are saying, who is going to pay for these? how is it going to work? port of states feel they are swamped out. right now, what we are dealing with is a big issue. but ron desantis is managing to make it petty at the same time. this is a very serious thing. he is poking at people's eyes. and newsom is not showing a giant i either. he is tweeting out that ron desantis is a small, pathetic man. let's get this figured out.

that's what i'm saying. they are the ones caught in the middle of this. ron bonta is going to be looking at legal actions. i'm not sure putting somebody on a plane and dropping them off in front of a charity house in sacramento will rise to the level of kidnapping. rob bonta is thinking about running for governor. there is no shortage of political roles in this drama. ama: you are right. thank you. dan: also, a ceremony was held in sacramento on the floor at the state senate and the assembly to honor san francisco's sister roma. there is controversy, some and republicans have called her a deeply offensive figure while others consider hurt an icon of the lgbtq movement. leslie brinkley has that story. reporter: in sacramento, the polarizing figure today was sister roma, one of 15 people recognized both from the state senate and state assembly, as part of pride month celebrations. san francisco senator scott wiener invited sister roma to the capital as his guest.

eight senate republicans asked senator wiener to withdraw his invitation, but that request was denied. sister roma is a member of the sisters of perpetual indulgence, a group of queer and trans activists who call themselves nuns as they devote themselves to community service. were founded in san francisco in 1977, and now have followers around the world. >> sister roma is one of the very best community leaders in san francisco. reporter: as part of pride month celebrations in california, the dodgers baseball team invited sister roma to appear at a ballgame and later on invited her over concerns the group mocked the catholic church. then the dodgers reversed course and re-invited her. christian and catholic groups showed up at the state capital for a prayer vigil in response to ceremonies on the floor of the legislature honoring what they say are an offensive group of men who dress in drag as

yards. crews are asking people to avoid the area until they can finish cleaning up that debris. dan: give you a live look at the conditions after a streak of beautiful weather. hope you enjoyed it. all across the bay area, we are tracking the possibility of wet weather coming back. for the details, let's go to meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya: talk about a big change in our weather today. let's look at those live pictures from our tower cameras. not just here locally but also up in the sierra. they are seeing a lot of cloud cover. we are seeing showers and thunderstorms in the high country. and also we have seen those in northern california. locally, things are quiet. as we look at what happened earlier in the day, you will notice those thunderstorms that fired up south of monterey. and that is going to be the first area that will see the potential for thunderstorms. area low-pressure spinning off the southern california coast, already bringing the instability across the sierra nevada and northern california, numerous lightning strikes.

>> all of this is in it to. it is not to say that it is unimportant, but it does not move the needle. vision pro potentially can move the needle. reporter: vision pro is expected to be released next year. set point test, abc 7 news. dan: impressive. outside of apple headquarters, members of the union, writers guild america, gathered for a day of action. the rally comes as the strike continues, delaying the content for original series on apple tv+. writers are calling for higher pay, provisions against artificial intelligence, and a fair deal. half a dozen protesters -- protests were held at multiple apple locations across the country. ama: coming up, it is the final day of the nevada state legislative session. what does that mean for the oakland a's and their plans to

ama: time is running out for the nevada legislature to fund a proposed ballpark for the oakland a's. it ends at midnight. so far, the bill has not been brought up. it asks lawmakers to approve 380 million dollars in tax financing for a $1.5 billion ballpark. two legislative committees held a joint hearing on the hearing -- on the bill a week ago. both would need to approve it before it could be brought up for a final vote. if the boat does not happen tonight, the only way for it to move forward with be in a special legislative session. it is unknown if there is support for that. dan: dozens of kids got a surprise visit from steph curry in oakland. ama: he stopped by elmhurst middle school to give out looks and meals as part of his foundation that focuses on childhood education and physical activity. dan: chris alvarez was there and caught up with him. . he is here to tell us about a great experience. reporter: he does so much great work at oakland. stefan continued his commitment to oakland through his

foundation. his foundation, partnering with carmax, to make the day possible. surprised 40 kids from the oak -- the oakland genesis soccer program. the bus was on site. curry can juggle as well. he helped hand out all cans of goodies from food to books. about wanted 60 kids from elmhurst united middle school in east oakland were given bugs and meals. -- given books and meals. overall, big win for the kids and a day filled with plate they will never forget. >> healthy, active lifestyles are huge for kids, just to have a solid balance. and to find their true inner child. that is a big part of identifying your sense of identity, your confidence, sense of community, and be able to play with other kids from all different backgrounds and different walks of life. it is just about self-discovery. you realize how much you learn in those environments. every kid deserves that. we are trying to find creative

[laughter] that low is going to continue to bring in the possibility of unstable weather. certainly seeing it around the sierra, northern california, and southwest of the monterey bay. as we check out our local radar, we are seeing a lot of cloud cover we are expecting the potential for showers and thunderstorms between tonight and tomorrow.

the chance will continue early wednesday. 32 mile an hour winds in napa. 28, san mateo. sustained 31 miles an hour. and we have seen a change in the weather. it is dramatically cooler inland. 21 degrees cooler. 20, fairfield. the coast does come up a few degrees compared to 24 hours ago with the south wind. it is soft and on the golden gate bridge. 61 in the city. 66, oakland. san jose, 68. mountain view, 78. you can see some trees down there. 67, santa rosa. 73 command livermore. here is the view from our emeryville camera as clouds are stacked up. it is a shaky view. chance of showers and thunder between late tonight and we are looking at below average temperatures all week long. we are going to go hour-by-hour. 6:00 tonight, pretty quiet. as we head toward 8:00 p.m., this model wants to bring in a

few showers. those showers continuing going into tomorrow morning. this means you are morning commute could include very wet roadways. this is just one model. keep that in mind as you make your plans. 9:00 a.m., we will notice those showers. the potential is there for thunderstorms. 12:00 in the afternoon, we are looking at the possibility of wet weather. shower chance continues as the low will spin over southern california. some of that moisture may drift toward our area. as we head into wednesday morning, the possibility will be to the north. here is a look at one of the computer models, indicating it will be pretty wet across many parts of the bay area. this is one of the models. the other model is not quite as aggressive. we are basically looking at a few hundredths to pat haps a quarter of an inch. the wettest occasions over the higher terrain looking at up to half an inch of rain. morning temperatures in the 50's. ready comfortable in terms of the temperatures.
