6:08 pm
freeways no longer free. >> conceptually this is not a popular idea, by the same token using pricing is shown to be perhaps the most effective way to meet our greenhouse gas reduction targets that are mandated by the state. >> some of the potential ideas include adding tools to all lanes of bay area freeways where there is an existing and viable public transit option. the price would vary by location and time of day, in addition the report also proposes adding tolls to major roads parallel to freeways to limit diversion. the report looks into creating pricing and dance -- downtown san francisco, oakland and san jose that would charge an extra toll for drivers going to the most congested parts of those cities. >> what would all of these things do in some hypothetical theoretical future, what with the impact be on congestion. >> i think it is a bad idea. >> chris klein lives in the bay

6:10 pm
allow tolls to be added which means legislators would have to get behind this. a lot would need to happen and they are nowhere near that. >> i that people are happy they are nowhere near that. thank you. >> knew at six we are joined live by abc 7 sports anchor casey pratt to talk about the latest on the oakland a's going to las vegas. you're going to hear what oakland mayor told casey when they sat down this afternoon to talk about this. >> plus the changes local schools are making to stop a decline in enrollment. >> plus 7 on your side runs a sting on a for likes or followers. their path isn't for the casually curious. and that's what makes it matter the most when they find it.

>> late last night nevada semiannual legislative session closed with no vote on a bill, how that could have brought major league baseball to vegas. >> casey pratt stayed up into the wee hours of the night to watch it all play out. >> no sleep on the a's stadium saga. this could have been a horrible day for oakland a's fans but when the dust settled in the window closed on the nevada legislative session, it left open oakland's window of opportunity. no vote was called in as of now no vote is scheduled to bring major league baseball to las vegas. the ballpark built named sp 509 could see it stay nevada son but with a 29 percent approval rating among nevada citizens it plummeted in priority. back home i had a chance to catch up with the oakland mayor who said she is still ready to play ball. >> i can tell you i have been doing so much work in the background. i did not make it easy for them

6:17 pm
it still represents nearly 40,000 students. >> certainly the cost of living is a major factor in having families move out of the city. >> enrollment at california traditional and public charter schools has been trending downward for years, the highest enrollment year was in 2004 2005 with more than 6,322,000 students. today that number is about 5,000,800 and 52,000. the bay area shows the same trend. recently the superintendent of public instruction encouraged school districts to market themselves in order to attract families. >> as the student population declines that means that school districts have had to reset. >> sf unified has a marketing campaign highlighting successful students displaying the schools they attended within the district. a new brochure that shows special programs and novelties of each school. for the first time transitional

>> good evening the a's were looking for a homerun in las vegas and instead more of a wild pitch with nevada legislators never taking up the funding bill for a new stadium. the ballpark proposal did not even make it onto the first special agenda called by the governor but here to talk more about this including a new wrinkle you just learned about is abc 7's casey pratt. >> the new wrinkle if we want to jump right into that is that governor lombardo is going to call another special session, it could happen as soon as tomorrow. whether or not the a's bill is popular enough for the democrats to put forward we will see. >> you had an exclusive interview today with the oakland mayor, she is doing all she can behind the scenes to try and make sure that the a's stay here. what does that include? >> she has been talking behind the scenes to a lot of people in the trades commissions, a lot of

people in nevada. she is ready for john fisher or rob manfred to pick up the phone but no one has yet. no one has reached back out to oakland and that is a problem so we will have to see whether or not the session goes well and whether or not they come crawling back to oakland at this point because they are saying the ball is in their court. >> the a's are appearing to run out of options, although we don't know how that special session might go or what is being done behind the scenes. the fans in oakland are obviously screaming sell , t want john fisher out but we haven't seen so far as the formation of any local group publicly saying outside of joe was a standing offer to buy the team. we want to buy it we will pay right now and we will cash john fisher out, is not going to change anytime soon? >> the interesting thing is that joe was the only one who has publicly spoken out, i know i have an you have, other ownership groups but for various reasons they can't come forward yet. there is only 30 major league baseball teams, if this does hit the market there will be owners

tape. like i said just reflecting on last off-season it played a big role in that and i never want to look like that on tape again. i kinda felt it i was just trying to will my way to help the team in every way possible. >> a shocker in the world of golf the pga tour is merging with liv golf and the european tour. this is stunning news given that the pga and live have been eddie 300 -- each other's throats. it is unclear how the new entity will operate but golfers that have taken tens of millions of dollars to join live are potentially welcomed back with stipulations. other stars wanted nothing to do with the saudi backed live tour or its golfers. reaction toward commissioner jay monahan, harsh with many feeling like he just sold out and shows the saudi cash over human rights. negotiating in secret because he knew the backlash would be intense. it is going to be fascinating to see how all of this plays out.
