up a san francisco neighborhood fillled is not a long term solution, and not one, not two, but at least 20 killer whales spotted off the san francisco coast. what the marine mammals did next, even more amazing abc7 news starts right now. building a better bay area moving forward , finding solutions. >> this is abc7 news. >> candles and balloons now sit at an intersection not far from the scene of a deadly attack in the east bay. it's the second mass shooting of the weekend here in the bay area. thanks for joining us. i'm j.r. stone. in just over 24 hours, two mass shootings with 16 victims hit by bullets in the bay area. one person has died. the latest incident includes seven victims, all shot at a birthday par in antioch. investigators say an 18 year old woman died, died as a result of the shooting. police tell us they responded to calls

about gunfire at a home at about 1 a.m. when they arrived, they found multiple injured victims and a large crowd outside the home. witnesses told police uninvited guests crashed the party and opened fire, sending guests running out of the house. some of the injured drove themselves to nearby hospitals. the victims are all 18, 19 and 20. no arrests have been made. and antioch police are still trying to identify suspects in this attack. new details on the shooting in the san francisco in san francisco's mission district that left nine people injured. the chronicle reports that police have identified a person of interest in the case. they say surveillance video shows a mercedes associated with the man driving in the area. and police say the gunfire came from the car. investigators think the shooting may have been tied to a fight that happened over carnival week and police are calling friday night's shooting a targeted incident meant there

were extra police in the neighborhood yesterday. a neighborhood landscaping project in the mission district is raising eyebrows and drawing, drawing controversy. some believe the fort to install large metal planters on several city blocks of harriso street is a way to stop people from caing out on sidewalks. abc rnard is getting some strong reaction from the neighborhood, even from those living on the street. >> there's something new on harrison street in the mission. these large metal planters recently installed between 18th and 20th streets. i think there's probably about 40 of these tubs out here with plants. >> so it can only just the effort in the energy. it's got to make the world a better place. a group of about 50 mission residents raised about $25,000 to install the heavy planters to beautify the street. >> but others believe it's a way to deter homeless encampments from returning to the area. >> for everybody has to have a

place to live. but i personally, i don't believe that the street he sidewalk is a place for them tlive. >> a gofundme page for harrison street neighbors makes no mention of overnight c, but the fundraisingshows before and after pictures from other neighborhood kids with tents and planters. >> any amount of planters is ever going to lead people off the streets. >> some are critical of the project. jennifer friedenbach from the coalition on homelessness says fundraising efforts should be targeted elsewhere. >> so for us, you know, we really would love to see the neighbors throw down and put that energy into fighting for housing for folks. so that they can have a safe and decent place to live. >> clearing public sidewalks is nothing new in the city. last year round planters were installed in the castro to deter open air drug dealing and these boulders were installed in clinton park as a way to block tents on the sidewalk. but the boulders were later removed by public works at the request of neighbors who paid for them because they were getting threats by those who disagre with the idea. as for these

unresponsive early saturday morning. staff tried to revive him, then transported kaczynski to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. kaczynski was serving a life sentence for mailing a series of homemade bombs around the country from the mid 1970s to the late 90s. he once worked as a math professor at uc berkeley, where two of his bombings took place. a third happened in tiburon, uh. a new poll finds nearly half of americans believe former president donald trump should have been charged in the classified document investigation. abc news reporter aaron katersky tells us that that despite those charges, trump vows to stay in the presidential race. >> former president trump back on the campaign trail saturday speaking out publicly just one day after the justice department unsealed its 37 count indictment against him. the baseless indictment of me by the biden administration's weaponized

department of justice will go down as among the most horrific abuses of power in the history of our country. the indictment accuses trump of knowingly breaking the law and trying to cover it up, mishandling classified documents containing information on us nuclear programs and american military plans. trump maintains he did nothing wrong and says he will stay in the 2024 presidential race. his rhetoric of his campaign has largely been one of retro tradtion revenge, framing himself as the victim. >> and there's a segment of his base that is going to stick by him no matter what. >> republicans are calling the indictment politically motivated. most people on my side of the aisle believe when it comes to donald trump, there are no rules and you can do the exact same thing or something very similar. >> as a democrat and nothing happens to you. democrats disagree. >> former president trump has no one to blame but himself for being federally criminally indicted. >> and all of the charges arise from his misconduct. his alleged misconduct after receiving a federal criminal subpoena to

produce classified documents. >> a new abc news ipsos poll found nearly half of americans think trump should have been charged in this case, 35% think he should not have been charged and 17% say they don't know. overall 61% of americans believe the charges are either very or somewhat serious. trump has his first court appearance on tuesday at the miami federal courthouse. aaron katersky, abc news, miami. >> a catastrophe in philadelphia this morning. this interstate overpass collapsed, severing a major east coast traffic artery , i-95. this is how it started. a tanker truck under the highway overpass caught fire that caused the northbound direction of the interstate to collapse. on the southbound direction is also heavily damaged. officials say there are no reports of injuries or fatalities. a nurse driving to work describes driving over the roadway before it collapse. >> just because you could feel that the bridge was structurally

compromised at that point, it was starting to fall. >> preliminary reports indicate that a commercial truck carrying a petroleum based product was the source of the fire. >> interstate could take months to rebuild i-95 is the major route connecting the east coast and pennsylvania. officials are warning motorists to anticipate gridlock in the days maybe months to come. i'm in the tahoe area, donner pass road between sugar bowl and truckee is closed and you can see why a boulder tumbled down onto the road early friday morning. chp says is to expect the road to be closed for the long term due to significant damage happening tomorrow. highway nine in santa cruz county will be closed. this map shows the specific area, chateau brook road and ben lomond road. the highway patrol says the full closure is set to run through june 26th. so crews can make road repairs due to a landslide

well come back. >> the shooting death of a boy of a boy in iran inspired a special celebration to honor his memory and speak out about human rights. a birthday party was held today at san francisco's crissy field for kian, powerful lak, who would have turned ten years old today. his family says during a protest last year in iran, security forces fired shots that killed kian, all while he was in a car with his parents. today's event was part of a global day of action in support of protesters in iran. as long as the people are protesting, sing and in the streets and risking their lives in iran, we're going to go ahead and amplify their voices.

welcome back. >> south bay residents are being encouraged to get out and get active today. jose parks, recreation and neighborhood services department hosted its second viva chi of 2023 this afternoon. it's a free event where the city temporarily closes miles of san jose streets to cars, allowing citizens to walk bike, skate and explore the city. viva chi sj also includes live music and food trucks. join right now by francis dinglasan it look beautiful outside down there today yeah definitely in the south bay and parts of the east bay and inland areas they got some sunshine but here in san francisco and behind us, we're still under gray skies today and through tomorrow. set up outside down there for the show. yeah, yeah. >> head out to the inland areas

and you'll see more sunshine. and here's a look at live doppler seven's been very exciting with satellite radar image and all the lightning strikes in the sierra to just watch out in tahoe there is a flood watch through tomorrow night because of the excessive rainfall on already saturated ground. so that's a concern. but for us right now, lots of cloud cover everywhere around the bay area. winds are breezy, especially in parts of the north bay, gusting up to 24mph in santa rosa, 23 in napa. and that's where temperatures were a little bit cooler this afternoon compared to yesterday. in fact, temperatures right now are in the mid 60s for santa rosa and napa and low 60s around the bay. san francisco 60, but it is a bit warmer in the south bay like san jose, 70 degrees there where they got more sunshine. a live look outside from emeryville shows mostly cloudy conditions. so we'll see increasing clouds with quite a bit of drizzle overnight. there's still a chance of isolated showers, mainly in the north bay through

today. and then high temperatures are going to stay near or below average another couple of days. then sunnier and warmer weather. finally by the end of the week. and here's a look at the forecast animation. you'll see tonight, the clouds increase. the areas of pockets of green show the possible isolated light showers, maybe a few hundreds of an inch in some spots, will get some breaks monday, but then the clouds move in once again monday night into tuesday. overnight lows will be in the 50s for almost everybody, low to mid 50s, 52 in san francisco, 58, a little bit milder in san jose. and then tomorrow, look for a little bit more sunshine down through parts of the south bay where we'll see some 70s and our highs in the inland areas will hit 77. in livermore, also in antioch, santa rosa and napa, comfortable at 70. breezy skies once again. so here's a look at the week ahead. you notice i've said we're below average. for example , in san jose, 79. we're below that. but wednesday is a turning point and then it starts to
