most clicked on stories on abc7news.com, the announcement that westfield is giving up its mall in downtown san francisco. the mall will remain open for now. city officials are left with another property that needs to be reimagined for the future. ryan joins us live from san francisco with more. r to downtown san francisco and its recovery. mayor london breed and her staff told abc7news they are already moving forward about what possibly to do with the future of that site. right now it is business as usual at the westfield mall. she hinted at the fact they have had talks with westfield mall knowing they were potentially going to leave the city and now that news has come to light. westfield has operated the mall for 20 years but lately they have been faced with challenges in the city saying they have

left to a massive drop off in sales. with the announcement of recent closures, on behalf of half of the retail space will be used. westfield will be transferring management to the shopping center and to his lender who will appoint someone new to operate the mall. abc7 spoke wit francisco times and the bay area council who said this is the result of issues the city has been dealing with. >> online shopping was increasing prior to the pandemic and that was accelerated. >> a lot of the problems we have today we have had in similar and different forms for a long time. >> other neighborhoods -- ryan: other neighborhoods in san francisco continue to do well. it is just downtown that continues to struggle. there are stores operating out of westfield mall right now and there are safety protocols in place. they will continue to stay the same.

large crowds. supporters of donald trump and protesters are expected to be there for his arraignment. mr. trump: he will plead not guilty to 37 criminal counts due to his holding of presidential records and refusal to return them. jobina: security has increased around the miami court and it will be at its highest level when president trump heads inside to face a federal judge. trump he will plead not guilty. he said "i didn't do anything wrong. it is not even a criminal event." miami city officials are planning for up to 50,000 people to rally outside of the courthouse. >> we obviously believe in the constitution and people should have the right to express themselves.

kumasi: san jose's department is working to improve street safety as the city has seen its 21st at the crash. a man was hit while crossing the street yesterday morning. officers say the man was moving slowly outside of a crosswalk when hit. people who live in this area say this road is dangerous for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. >> i have a daughter so i have to protect her. when i see this happening think about my daughter. i think about the safety of her and other people. kumasi: the city is planning

permanent and temporary measures just steps from where the crash happened. the plan includes a raised speedbump like crosswalk at jackson and mickey and a fee -- and events to prevent jaywalking. attorneys for elizabeth holmes say she would be able to afford restitution payments when she is released from prison. her and her former business partner were ordered to pay more than $452 million in restitution. lawyers say she won't be able to afford $250 a month. experts say it is common for money to never be paid out in full but courts will look for ways to pay some of it. reggie: a unique motion restoration effort is getting underway. the goal is to rescue call-up. -- rescue kelp. it started with a shift in the marin department -- marine environment. it killed off predators such as

reggie: annual report has been released on inflation and it shows the consumer price index rose. that is any improvement from the 9.1% increase in june last year. prices were up .1% last month compared to april which is in line with expectation.

inflation is still historically high and higher than what the federal reserve wants. tomorrow the federal reserve is excited to weigh in on interest rates. the fed is excited to rate hikes for the first time in more than a year. some believe the rate hikes have had unexpected consequences. some analysts blamed the collapse of silicon valley bank and first republic bank on their inability to adapt to the higher rates. san jose state university's human rights institute will release its silicon valley pain index. if silicon valley were a nation, it would be deemed politically unstable. the institute says the report will highlight the persistent inequalities talking about overdoses, evictions, overdoses, and a narrow concentration of wealth. you can visit a monument on -- island.

a church fire in west oakland. it started at 37th street baptist church. abc7 news spoke with the pastor who set the fire caused about $30,000 worth of damage. the pastor says the church has been around for more than 75 years but recently had remodeling done. >> we are a small congregation. we don't have the money reggie: that is hard to see. fire officials are still investigating that. kumasi: most californians senator dianne feinstein to resign. new pulling from emerson college suggests 63% of voters senator to leave the office and older voters were more likely than young voters to feel this way. dianne feinstein has a 22% approval rating. 48% disapprove of the job she is

supply chain after a tanker crash led to the collapse of a bridge on sunday. jobina: the american trucking associations as disruptions of likely to have significant impacts on the supply chain, sync up to 9% of vehicles passing through that section of highway in philly are commercial trucks which face the detours. experts say all of the bridge was listed in good condition, it appears the exposed stee not hold up to those fears frames burning up to 800 degrees. -- 1800 degrees. demolition is to be done but rebuilding could take months. the truck was carrying up to 8500 gallons of gasoline. >> the tractor trying to navigate the curve, lost control of the vehicle, landed on its side, ruptured the tank and ignited the fire. jobina: human remains were found

a 53 acre campus run by san francisco state. it is where researchers and students have studied the change of waters of the bay. >> we study almost anything you can think of that affects ocean health. we are interested in water quality, the introduction of sea otters. >> we care about how crabs use structures as habitat. reporter: -- is a grab student -- a grad student studying crab species and oysters. >> oysters are threatened in san francisco bay. reporter: the centre and a faculty are at risk of losing funding from the university. this historic site could close its doors for good. >> we are on a timeline where we have to develop a physical and operational stability plan and that means basically self support. reporter: she needs to come up with $2 million per year to run
