wednesday morning, everyone. i'm andrew dymburt. happy wednesday . i'm rhiannon ally. we want to begin this morning with former president trump's defiant message to his supporters after pleading not guilty to federal criminal charges. it was a moment unlike any other in us history. trump saying his arrest in miami yesterday was, quote, an evil abuse of power. no cameras allowed in the federal court, but reporters say trump was sitting waiting for about 15 minutes for the judge and remained silent before being ordered not to communicate with witnesses about the case. so where does this case go from here? let's get right to abc's justin finch. he has more from bedminster, new jersey, where trump spoke last night. justin, good morning. andrew good morning. trump spoke to supporters here last night about his arraignment, calling it a day of infamy for america. former president trump was defiant last night hours after his arrest on federal criminal charges related to his handling of classic documents. today, we witnessed the most evil and

heinous abuse of power in the history of our country. at his new jersey golf club, hundreds of supporters, including major republican donors, sang happy birthday to trump, who turned 77 today. they. is likely to be his legal argument in the case, falsely claiming that he could keep classified documents under the presidential records act. i had every right to have these documents earlier in this miami courthouse, trump was silent as his lawyer entered a not guilty plea to 37 federal charges, including conspiracy and obstruction. special counsel jack smith, who led the investigation, was sitting one row behind trump. he accuses trump of illegally keeping classified documents at his mar a lago resort, including secrets about us nuclear programs. some

of the charges potentially carry decades in prison. if trump is convicted. we've never seen anything like this in american history, but that's in part because we've never seen anything like donald trump. the combination of his tower ring influence in american politics, tens of millions of republicans, you know, will go lie down in traffic for him and these character flaws that that that land him in so much trouble this time, criminal charges in a federal court. we've never seen anything like that. we are in unchartered waters. experts say one strategy to avoid conviction is for trump to delay the process with appeals and then win the election. he would be able to order his attorney general to dismiss the case. if he's now the president and the case hasn't gone to trial, even if there are still appeals pending, he could probably figure out a way to get rid of it. if he wins the judge in the case, judge aileen cannon, could play a major role in the pace of the trial. a trump appointee, judge cannon, ruled in favor of

down to four. still too high, but clearly moving in the right direction while trending lower. inflation is still at double the target set by the federal reserve. the big question, though, if the fed does pause in raising interest rates, will we at home even feel a difference? no mean because this is already embedded in interest rates in the stock market. economists say it will take some time to feel the impact, some positive signs in the latest report. airfares down 13% in the last year and gas prices down nearly 20. people are paying $3.50 for a gallon of regular unleaded. go back a year ago was a record $5 a gallon at the grocery store. prices rose slightly last month, but egg prices dropped the largest monthly decline in more than 70 years. the first thing people want to know is, do i have eggs? while many focus on food prices, it's housing costs that remain the biggest contributor to inflation. although there are signs that rents are finally coming down if

years ago. a boston neighborhood saw a string of unsolved sexual assaults, but then a breakthrough. authorities used dna evidence to charge manhattan attorney and boston native 35 year old matthew nilo with the crimes. four cases in all this morning. one of the victims seeking justice, lori pinkham, is speaking out with her mother by her side to abc's erielle reshef. did you lose hope that they'd ever find the suspect after the fifth year and the sixth year, the seventh year, eight, nine, ten, 11, 12, 13. eventually i gave up hope. nilo recently pleaded not guilty, and this week he was granted the option to post half a million dollars bail, igniting outrage. what do you remember from that night in 2007? i had been out at one of the clubs. i was doing promotion for and i was walking to my car. it was really
