big-name business could be set to shutter in san francisco's downtown. what we have learned about the cinemark inside the westfield mall. reggie: the power is back on, sfo is back in business. that was not the case last night when a power outage caused delays for thousands of people. kumasi: another record for music icon madonna, what you just accomplished the only one other woman has ever done. reggie: this is the respect i am looking for for my queen. goes on for increasing sunshine. a bit warmer this afternoon compared to yesterday, we are pretty close to average for this time of year. june has been quite cool for much of the month. 70's and 80's away from the coast. let us check in on traffic. jobina: good morning, unfortunately we are following a deadly crash right now in san jose. chp has upgraded this to a sig alert, it started as a crash and turned into a car fire. unfortunately a deadly situation , so speeds are down to around eight miles per hour. if you're trying to take northbound one to get around, slow as well, around 29 miles per hour. a live picture at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights came on at 5:57. kumasi: a live look at sfo right now. operations at the airport back to normal after a power outage plunged passengers into the dark last night.

the outage affected everything from ticketing, baggage claim, jeff bridges out to the plains and tarmac. power was restored after about an hour. according to flightaware, departure delays average nearly an hour after the power came back. the cause of the outage is under investigation. reggie: you may soon see more fare inspectors on trains and buses. invaders are impacting the agency's revenue. they're hoping to address the issue with funds promised by the california legislature and there is a critical vote tomorrow. amanda del castillo joins us live in san francisco. amanda: there is no denying that fare evasion has been a problem for years and it has only gotten worse because there are not enough fare inspectors. there are fewer now than there were back in 2019, so it is a pattern. people do not pay, and you need is not collect in the agency finds itself in a deficit.

the presidential records act. that is not true. he also attacked investigators. >> threatening me with 400 years in prison for possessing my own presidential papers. we witness to the most people in heinous abuse of power in the history of our country, a very sad thing to watch. jobina: prosecutor say some of the documents kept by former president trump are found in a bathroom, a ballroom and a storage area at his florida estate. the records are said to include u.s. nuclear secrets. during the arraignment yesterday, the judge ordered trump not to discuss the case with witnesses, which could pose as a challenge for him since many witnesses in the case are employed by trump. if convicted on all counts, he could face up to decades in prison. reggie: new this morning, it appears the cinemark theater, which is way on top of san francisco's westfield mall, is shutting down. we received a screenshot of an email sent by cinemark to its

customers announcing the theater's after tomorrow. looking at the website, it confirms there are no movies scheduled for friday or beyond. we reached out to cinemark but have not heard back. it is the latest blow to the downtown shopping district westfield mall just announced monday it is giving up the mall, transferring management to its lender. there have been numerous closures of other businesses along the street and continuing onto union square. despite the challenges, the mayor is looking to what could be coming next. >> the venues are going to remain open, but also having conversations with the lenders and business community and others, including our educational institutions, uc berkeley, stanford, who have an interest in expanding their space. reggie: before the closure of cinemark, westfield said the occupancy level had dropped to just 55%.

nationally, occupancy rate average is around 93%. a data team analysis of more than five dozen cities found san francisco ranked last when it comes to downtown recovery. the team used cell phone data looking at how recent activity compares to pre-pandemic levels. during the week of april 10 this year, the downtown area of san francisco was at about 29% of its activity, compared to the same period in 2019. other bay area cities were more vibrant. downtown san jose was at about 75% and downtown oakland was at about 48%, when compared to 20. vacancies may account for some of the differences. the ceo of the california retailers association thinks safety is a key factor. >> i was in san diego last month and people are out running in the streets, you feel safe as you walk around. i think that is not felt when you go to san francisco. reggie: our data analyst

decision to block curriculum that mentions a civil rights activist harvey milk. the decision to ban the book of the district in possible violation of the williams act, which requires all students to have equal access to proper instructional materials. some board members are also facing a recall. starbucks is denying claims from its union that it is banning pride displays in stores across the u.s.. starbucks workers say store managers have been cutting back on pride displays across the country, some of them citing safety concerns. starbucks corporate said there has been no change in policy and store leaders are still encouraged to celebrate pride month. kumasi: san francisco celebrating one of the city's most iconic attractions with a little help from the past. >> we want to thank the scientists of stanford university who brought me back to life here to be part of this event today. i was not supposed to mention

vegas. the assembly is taking up the proposal after the senate voted in favor of a proposal to provide up to $380 million in funding. gloria rodríguez joins us live in the studio with the latest. gloria: the bill was formally introduced yesterday afternoon, but minutes later they adjourned until this morning. the oakland a's won their seventh straight game against the best team in major league baseball at the oakland coliseum. nevada lawmakers are considering a brand-new 30,000 seat baseball stadium for the oakland a's to be built in vegas. it would cost $1.5 billion, a funding bill proposes the state cover up to $380 million of the cost. fans chanted for the team not to go to las vegas. >> stay in oakland. stay in oakland. >> it was wild.

nearly 28,000 fans filled the coliseum last night as part of a reverse boycott. >> stay in oakland. stay in oakland. reggie: you can see that they have shirts and sweatshirts that have the word cell across the front, a message to the team's owner to sell the team instead of moving the team. the crowd was the largest the a's have seen at the coliseum this season. fans express their frustration with the teams ownership. >> they ting to the team, they let guys go, they raised the ticket prices and flirted with relocation. we never wanted them to leave. >> i am sick and tired of seeing the city lose teams. enough is enough. reggie: fans are yesterday made a difference and showed the team that there is a lot of love for the a's in oakland. kumasi: address issues with paying fare

in 2019, they collected about half of the citations issued, with the trend continuing today. reggie: accused of breaking into congresswoman nancy pelosi's san francisco home and attacking her husband with a hammer is due back in court. he faces six charges, including attempted murder. today's hearing is about setting a trial date. he faces federal charges of assault and attempted kidnapping , that cases have to go to trial in october, about a year after the attack. kumasi: the first lady continues her west coast trip today with a fundraising event in los angeles. it comes after she attended fundraising events for president biden's 2024 campaign in the bay area yesterday. she ended her visit speaking about gun violence prevention. we were there as they left last night's event. dr. biden was in town for the 30th anniversary of the givers

law center, which was previously known as the law center to prevent gun violence. she was joined by a former u.s. representative, the organization's leader. she spoke about the lives lost in some of the nation's deadliest mass shootings and a plot of the work they have done to promote gun control legislation around the country. >> this organization has worked tirelessly to move us forward. i know that it takes strength to tell the stories of this epidemic of violence. kumasi: it has helped passed more than 500 pieces of legislation over the past 10 years. dr. biden's visit comes as to city leaders introduced a measure to make it illegal to carry a gun in most san francisco public places. if approved, the ordinance would redefine city lot to expand places where firearms are banned , like restaurants, hospitals, parks, places of worship and grocery stores. the proposed ordinance would

reggie: we are hearing from a bay area mom who presented a personal story to u.s. lawmakers. it comes eight weeks after her son was shot and killed during an alleged theft at an alleged theft at east bay home depot. she testified before the house of representatives judiciary committee. the topic was organized retail theft and the threat to public safety. in april, her son was killed in a shooting at a home depot in pleasanton. a woman shot him over a stolen item. blake was a theft prevention employee. >> i would a vests or safety gear and he would tell me no. >> my promise to you as the representative of pleasanton, california, where his murder took place, is to be an advocate for justice. reggie: she says she is thankful for the opportunity to share blake's story. kumasi: the federal reserve is

last week on the las vegas police allegedly put up surveillance cameras outside the home of a family that reported unknown creatures landing at their house after an object fell from the sky. according to the new york post, the mother of the family says the police but the cameras they are supposedly to protect the family from people coming to bother them about the ufo. officers captured an alleged ufo on their bodycam footage not too far from the house. the family called the officers sometime later, saying they encountered a nine foot to 10 foot tall alien like creature, actually several. after a search, officers close the case is unfounded. but they say they had a reason to believe what the family saw. reggie: three new categories are being added to the grammys. this african music performance, best alternative jazz album and best pop dance recording. two existing categories will be moved to the general field, so
