these kids. >> good morning. it is thursday, june 15. >> thank you for having me. we definitely miss reggie. >> today will be lovely. this is the warmest day of the week. get out and enjoy. here is a live look at the exploratorium camera. we have overcast skies right now but that will change pretty quickly as the day goes on. we are waking up to the low to upper 50's. very typical for this time of year. have the light layer but later this afternoon it is shaping up to be pretty lovely. it is breaking down the marine layer very fast today. high pressure builds in. we will likely see sunshine quickly across the bay area, by about 10:00 a.m. along the coast we will see the clouds break down. temperatures about average for this time of year. we will call it spring warmth

out there. 67 in the city. near 80 at san jose. 76 at santa rosa. along the coast we will get sunshine coming in at 62 for half moon bay. let's get a check of traffic with jobina. jobina: we will zoom into south san francisco what we are looking at a car fire on northbound 280. we are not seeing any slowdowns pop up. definitely be aware if you moved to the area. in richmond, and that counter commute area of eastbound 80 past central avenue. no slowdowns in that area either. we have a couple of blocking issues. as far as things moving at the limit, that does appear to be the case as we look live at the san mateo bridge. emeryville. headlights traveling westbound. amanda: the bill to give the $380 million in public funding for the new ballpark in las vegas is heading to the nevada governor's desk.

it's a huge step to leave oakland but it is not a done deal yet. gloria rodriguez is in the newsroom with the next steps. gloria: the nevada state legislature approved funding for a ballpark in las vegas. the villas heading to the governor who is expected to sign it. the next major hurdle would be approval by major league baseball owners. the oakland mayor released a statement. "the a's have been part of oakland for more than half a century and they belong in the city. if the current ownership once to move the las vegas, they should seek an expansion team." that could be a possibility. the bill says they will provide funding for a baseball stadium. it does not mention the a's. the money could theoretically go to an expansion team. what fans would like is for the owner to sell and let a local group by rights and use the money to go to vegas and build an expansion baseball team. the a's sent a statement thanking members of the nevada

state legislature and their staff for their hard work on taking the a's to las vegas. gloria rodriguez, abc 7 news. kumasi: community groups are calling for changes to the proposed oakland city budget to say funding for violence prevention. the city council is considering custer to a multimillion dollar deficit. the cuts would have an impact on community groups like courage. they took part in a rally demanding no cost to city funding for their programs. part of their work is with young people coming out of prison. >> my organization, over $600,000. that's a lot of money. we are going to have to lay people work as a result of these cuts. these are people who live in oakland, born and raised in oakland. people who have transformed their lives and are trying to do something positive for the community. kumasi: the city council president is proposing a $2 million increase in funding for

violence prevention. we have reported on the challenges in downtown san francisco. it has not recovered from the pandemic. some parts of san francisco are doing better now than they were before covid. sales tax data shows district 2, pacific heights,, the marina, is generating more income than it did before the pandemic. the manager of tocco barn and pacific heights says neighborhoods overall safety and street cleanliness have contributed to its success. >> people want to feel secure, safe, and then doing our job. good service, good quality of food, and maintain our streets clean. kumasi: business owners credit fewer vacant storefronts in their area for bringing customers back. san francisco is relaxing restrictions to fill the vacancies in the downtown area. the board of supervisors approved legislation on tuesday

to cut through the red tape by making it easier to convert commercial buildings. supervisor aaron peskin pointed out restrictions have been around for decades and this will open doors for residential space as well downtown. amanda: cinemark century will have its final showings today. is a story we told you about yesterday on abc 7 mornings. professor galea rossman says there's a trend happening across the country where people are waiting for streaming services to drop movies that are released in theaters first. he says the number of theaters is down 5% since its pre-covid peak. he says streaming services will likely not be a strong going forward as hollywood tries to rebound. >> so if you have closed. box office is down much more than number of screens. in the long run that is not sustainable. >> netflix is just more comfortable now. kumasi: cinemark claims a closure on a comprehensive review of local business conditions. now to the economy.

the federal reserve is skipping an interest rate hike this month as it assesses the economy and inflation. the warning is that more rate hikes are likely in the future. jobina: yes. this is the first time in a year the fed has not raised interest rates. while inflation is easing, it is still quite high. it's around 4% to be exact. the fed wants it down to 2%. that is why jerome powell said yesterday more rate hikes could be in the future. >> we don't see continued improvement on the inflation front and some of the easing, we don't see both of those things, the fed is likely to be back racing -- raising integrates. jobina: it has cost borrowing on everything reddit cards the home loans to be higher. if you're wondering when interest rates could come down, powell said yesterday it will likely be two years. drew: let's go outsi

amanda: the state of san francisco's most challenged neighborhoods has been the focus of our covers for long time. governor gavin newsom deployed the chp and national guard to san francisco to crack down on drug sales and trafficking. abc 7 news is getting a look at the result showing what the chp has done in the first six weeks patrolling the tenderloin neighborhood. in a tv news exclusive, abc 7 news angry liz kreutz looks at the latest numbers showing the amount of drugs seized so far and the number of arrests made. liz: accidental overd have been going up. almost every week there is more than the week before. a majority are caused by fentanyl. roughly a third happen in the tenderloin. that is why governor newsom has deployed chp to the tenderloin. they now have anywhere from six

to 10 officers patrolling the area daily. is it working? it has been six weeks since the tenderloin crackdown. what have you seen? >> pretty much what we came to do. we are stopping vehicles with thousands, hundreds of thousands of potentially lethal doses of fentanyl. liz: since the start of the operation on may 1, chp has seized over 4.2 kilos of fentanyl in and around the tenderloin, enough to kill 2.1 million people. almost three times the population of san francisco. the chp has seized 957 grams of methamphetamine, 319 grams of cocaine, and 31 grams of heroin. the agency has made 92 felony and misdemeanor arrests, including charges related to possession of fentanyl, illegal firearm possession, driving under the influence and domestic violence. >> our focus is on traffic. we know, as with anything that

comes to san francisco, it has to get here somehow. if we have fentanyl coming in, it has to be delivered somehow. very often that is done vehicles. liz: the agencies acknowledged six weeks is just the beginning. >> we will be here for as long as it takes. that is my commitment. liz: what is your message to drug dealers? >> you might national guard soldiers on your street, but know this. we are behind the scenes. we will figure out who you are, who your bosses are, who launders your money, and who gives you drugs to sell in this city. we will come after you and we will get you. amanda: that was just part of the full story. liz has been at work covering this issue and many others on our team. it is an issue that is far from over. liz;s. rate -- liz's is honor news app

sophisticated ways scammers could try to target you using everything from your name to your hospital visits. i'm trevor ault, abc news, cleveland. kumasi: more than a d companies are suing twitter, accusing the company of copyright infringement. the lawsuit claims twitter violated copyright law on 1700 songs. attorneys for the 17 publishers say twitter allowed users to post music without permission. twitter was negotiating with the music industry to put broad licensing agreements into place. those talks broke down earlier this year. potential damages could reach $250 million. amanda: a recent santa clara university got kicked off linkedin for one reason. he's 14. we introduced you to him last week. he just graduated this weekend with a degree in computer science and engineering.

no metering lights yet. elsewhere checking out this round of drive times for everything is green across the board. amanda. amanda: new developments. san francisco police have a minute custody in connection with last friday's mass shooting and the mission district. they took javier compos into custody yesterday. they say he has several warrants for his arrest for multiple bay area agencies. the shooting broke out near the corner of 24th and treat avenue, injuring nine people. for the third time in two weeks migrants have ar downtown los angeles. texas governor greg abbott is taking responsibility for coordinating the trip. they were dropped tough at union station. abbott says that his state's small border towns remained overwhelmed by thousands of people illegally crossing into texas, many from south america. los angeles is not the first

city that abbott has sent migrants to. new york, chicago, philadelphia have also had buses arrive in recent months. many immigrants rights groups have condemned the actions. >> that is what makes this incredibly disgusting to see. that a group of people that wanted to come to this country for a better tomorrow are essentially misled and then shipped off and told they are someone else's problem. amanda: in response to yesterday's arrival, governor newsom's office released a statement. "contrary to what many think, california is a border state. instead of demonizing asylum-seekers we are working with locals to support and mainly -- humanely welcome people. our community partners. nonprofits and religious organizations are helping. mayor karen bass says they have

"to deal with the major challenges san francisco is facing tough choices had to be made." amanda: a housing developer is giving money back to some of its tenants as part of a settlement with the state. the state attorney general says it is the first time california has taken public action for violations of the tenant protection act. >> i want to be clear. when the legis law and the governor signs it, it is the law. it is not a suggestion. it is not a recommendation. it is not if you want to. it is a must. amanda: as a san housing developer. they were accused of raising rate of 20 employee tenants by more than 150% and wrongly evicting six others. they agreed to pay $390,000 and attend rental training. swenson builders told abc 7 news has no comment.
