the california highway patrol and national guard. reporter: governor newsom calling the investment critical, saying we all must work together at all levels of government to shut down the poison pipeline and in this crisis of humanity on our streets. speaker emeritus pelosi making clear the federal efforts will not focus on arresting drug users. >> this is not about against users, it is about sellers, about people committing the crime of selling these drugs. reporter: chief bill scott says san francisco police will arrest drug users, so far making 45 arrests. >> people openly using dangerous drugs, we have to change that as well. we are arresting people engaged in that behavior, and we will continue to do so. reporter: abc 7 news. dan: you can watch the

by mill operations for the lumber company. the fire started last september and nearly destroyed 150 buildings, while scorching 4000 acres. two people were injured. the fire because the mill to close in september. dan: the man accused of causing a deadly home explosion in san francisco is facing new charges tonight. 53-year-old aaron price will be charged with murder with the february explosion. he was previously charged with voluntary manslaughter, reckless burning, manufacturing drugs and child endangerment. the explosion killed his wife and severely injured her caregiver. the bay area resident once described as the most dangerous man in america has died. the panic on papers whistleblower and antiwar activists daniel ellsberg died peacefully from pancreatic

the 80-year-old pond they come to make in is in a state -- mate in is in a state of disrepair. gardeners have found some newts dead. now the garden is raising money to create a new habitat for the newts. >> we will start by slowly draining it down. then we will collect the newts, move the adults to tanks. reporter: after that the cracks will be filled and a new pond will be put down. the garden has a narrow timeframe to get this done. they hope to start repairs in august and complete by september. without the pond, the local newt population could suffer permanent damage. he think's many would not know where to go come mating season. >> how many will find another part, we do not know. reporter: they are hoping to raise $150,000. they been have a save a newt

in arizona after a highly unusual and unprovoked attack by a bear. the victim was tricking his coffee in the morning when it happened. the bear dragged the man 75 yards and was consuming the man as neighbors tried to intervene. >> imagine going from zero being relaxed having a cup of coffee to all of a sudden a neighbor is screening for help. they did respond. they yelled at the bear and did what they could. one individual honked a horn. it did not help mr. jackson. dion: after the noise did not work, a neighbor shot and killed the bear. officials will do an autopsy on the bear to determine what may have led to the attack. dan: abc 7 is committed to raising awareness about building a better bayre and this
